1 Introduction
This chapter is divided into three sections that provide an intro-ductiontoSchlumberger'sCardValueCenters:
• Description of the Unit• Card Value Center Option Designations• Card Value Center Components
Description
The Schlumberger Card Value Center (CVC) is a cash-to-cardand/or account-to-card card center. The CVC functions as astand-alone unit (offline) with card sales and cash-to-card addvalue capability and allows the user to view card balances. With the unit configured for and connected to an online hostsystem, services include account-to-card transfer ofpre-deposited funds and viewing of account balances.
Card Value Center Option Designations
The Card Value Center requires certain upgrade kits in order toperform the services described. The CVC base model(CVC/BASE) includes the display, keypad, wiring harness, function keys, and power supply necessary to support theoptional kits. Optional upgrade kits include the Card Dispenserkit (CVC/CDK), Bill Acceptor kit (BAK600), D-Reader Kit(CVC/DRK), Smart Card Reader Kit (CVC/SMRK), ReceiptPrinter Kit (CVC/PRK), RS-232 Communications Kit(CVCCOM/232), Swipe Reader Kit (CVC/SRK), AuxiliaryProcessor Kit (CVC/AUX), and the Debit/Credit Kit(CVCCOM/BANK & CVC/DES/KB).

2 Theory of Operation
This chapter discusses Card Value Center operating theory. Itbegins with a general overview of Card Value Center operation.Subsequent sections discuss the functions and operatingprinciplesofindividualcomponents/sub-assemblies:
• General Operation• Power Supply Operation• Bill Acceptor Operation• D-Reader Operation• Card Dispenser Operation• Display PCB Operation• Keypad Operation• Main PCB Operation• Swipe Card Reader• Smart Card Reader Operation• Auxiliary Processor Operation• Door Switch Operation• Security Signal Operation• Interface PCB Operation• Printer Operation
NOTE:Card vend and bill acceptor operations donot apply to the CVC Lite.
General Operation
Depending on the upgrade options purchased, Card ValueCenters can vend stored value user cards, RECHARGE usercards either directly or from an on-line host system, displayaccount, or card balances, then print a receipt of any CVCtransaction.
This section provides an overview of card vending andRECHARGE operations for both magnetic stripe and SmartCards. (Figure 2-1 shows a block diagram of the Card ValueCenter.)
Card Vend Operation
When a bill is inserted into the bill acceptor slot, it istransported into the bill acceptor, where it is validated againstpredetermined acceptance criteria. If the bill is valid, theacceptor signals to the Card Value Center processor that avalid bill has been inserted, and what the bill's denomination is.After receiving the denomination, the processor decideswhether to accept or reject the bill and signals the acceptor ofits decision. If a bill is rejected (for instance, if a bill in excess ofthe card cost has been inserted), the acceptor returns that billto the user. To purchase a card, a single bill of the exact valueof the purchase price must be inserted in order for the CVC todispense a card.

Card RECHARGE Operation
Think of card RECHARGE operations as occurring in threesequential steps:
 Initiation Monitoring/Escrow Accumulation Termination
Initiation
With Magnetic Card Readers, when a card is inserted into thecard acceptor slot, the card reader transports the card in andscans the magnetic stripe. During this process, the readerrelays the scanned information to the Auxiliary Processor, which sets up a place in memory for temporary storage of theinformation. Providing the card meets the processor'sacceptance criteria (for example, the Site Code on the cardmust match a Site Code stored in memory), the card isaccepted and the cash balance displayed.
With Smart Card Readers, the user inserts the card into thereader slot until the card carriage engages at the rear of thereader. When fully engaged, pins are in full contact with themicro-processor chip embedded in the card. A micro-switchsignals the reader that a card is present and data transferbegins. This information is relayed to the Auxiliary Processor, which sets up a place in memory for temporary storage of theinformation. Providing the card meets the processor'sacceptance criteria (for example, the Site Code on the cardmust match a Site Code stored in memory), the card isaccepted and the cash balance displayed.
When transferring funds from an on-line account to a card, theuser passes a swipe card through the swipe reader slot. The
card's stripe is scanned by the stationary magnetic headinside the Swipe Reader and the information is relayed to theCard Value Center processor.
The CVC processor relays the scanned information to theon-line host computer for verification of a proper accountnumber. If the account number is valid, the user then inserts amagnetic stripe card or a smart card into the appropriatereader for the transfer of funds from account-to-card.
Monitoring/Escrow Accumulation (Cash-to-Card)
Once a valid card is inserted, the user inserts bills to increasethe displayed balance. As bills are inserted, they are validatedand accepted as explained in the foregoing "Card VendOperation" section. As each bill is accepted, the bill value isadded to the balance on the card and the appropriateelectronic and electro-mechanical counters in the CVC areupdated.
Monitoring/Escrow Accumulation (Account-to-Card)
After the host computer verifies the swipe card accountnumber and a valid card has been inserted into the cardreader, the user enters the transfer request via the CVCkeypad. If funds are available, the host directs the CVCprocessor to add the value to the card's balance. If the transferrequest is more than the on-line account balance, the hostcomputer notifies the CVC processor of insufficient funds.
Termination
The card RECHARGE operation is terminated when the userpresses the Cancel key (lower function key), and the card isreturned to the user.

Power Supply Operation
Power supply operation is discussed in two parts: (1) first, adiscussion of power supply functions and operation, then (2)an overview of the fuses.
Functional and Operational Overview
The power supply, Figure 2-2, receives incoming 120VAC froma standard wall outlet and converts it to the voltages andcurrents required for Card Value Center operation.
120VAC is first connected to the CVC Terminal Block (TB1 -Figure 2-3), then to the main CVC power switch and in-line fuse. Finally the 120VAC is routed to the power supply and the BillAcceptor. The chassis ground is located at W6 on the powersupply board.
Power is supplied to the various CVC components viaconnectors J2, J3, and J4 as shown in Figure 2-2 and 2-3.
Fuse
The CVC power supply uses two fuses:
Low Voltage Fuse. This 2A slow blow fuse protects thelow voltage components of the Card Value Center (suchas the main PCB). Power is fed through this fuse after itleaves the transformer.
Line Fuse. This is a one amp slow blow fuse that protectsthe CVC from excess current flowing through the powerline.
Bill Acceptor Operation
Bill acceptor operation is explained in two parts—(1) first, anoverview of acceptor functions and operation, then (2) adiscussion of the acceptor interface.
Functions/Operational Overview
Depending on the date of manufacture, either the MARS®
ELECTRONICS GL5 600 ($1, $2, $5, $10, and $20) or Coinco® billacceptor (Figure 2-4 and 2-6) may be installed in the CardService Center. Bill acceptors have two major functions:
 Bill recognition/validation Bill storage
The DIP switch settings that affect these functions arediscussed at the end of this section.

Bill Recognition/Validation
When a bill is inserted, the acceptor motor transports the billinto the bill validator, where optical and magnetic sensorsscan the bill and send the scanned information to the acceptorprocessor for comparison with predetermined acceptancecriteria. If a bill does not meet this criteria, the motor reversesdirection and returns the bill. When a bill meets the criteria, theacceptor signals the Card Value Center that a valid bill hasbeen inserted and the amount of the denomination. Theacceptor then holds the bill in escrow until it receives an "OK"from the Card Value Center to accept the bill.
Bill Storage
Valid, accepted bills are sent to the stacker assembly forstorage in the magazine. If the magazine becomes full, a BILLACCEPTOR JAMMED signal is sent to the Card Value Center.
Bill Acceptor DIP Switches
Bill Acceptor DIP switch settings (Table 2-1) affect acceptoroperation. You must remove the bill acceptor from the CardValue Center and open the PCB/cover assembly to accessthese switches. (See Figure 2-5.)
Bill Acceptor Interface
Power is supplied to the acceptor via two lines brought inthrough the 9-pin power connector (Table 2-2).
The 18-pin communications interface (Table 2-3) uses logiclevel and serial communications with handshaking. It uses oneserial output line (DATA) and four control lines:
two from the Card Value Center (ACCEPT ENABLE andSEND)
two from the acceptor (INTERRUPT) and (OUT OFSERVICE).
The following lists the sequence of acceptor/Card ValueCenter communications:
When a valid bill is inserted, the acceptor processorsends an INTERRUPT signal to inform the Card ValueCenter processor that a valid bill is in place.
In response, the Card Value Center processor transmitsa SEND signal to indicate that it is ready to receive billacceptance data.
The acceptor then sends a DATA message specifyingthe bill denomination.
The Card Value Center processor decides whether toaccept or return a bill of this denomination and, ifaccepted, sends an ACCEPT signal.
The acceptor sends a confirmation DATA message toindicate whether the bill was accepted or returned.
If an invalid bill is inserted or the bill acceptor is full, twodefault messages can also be sent via the DATA line:
SLUG (Bill was not accepted.)
STACKER JAMMED (Magazine is full.)
If a problem exists with the Bill Acceptor, an "OUT OFSERVICE" signal is sent to the CVC Processor.

Auxiliary Processor Operation
When the CVC is equipped with either a "D" Card Reader or aSmart Card Reader, the Auxiliary Processor PCB is included inthe Card Reader Assembly. When the CVC unit is not equippedwith a Card Reader, the Auxiliary Processor PCB is mountedinside the CVC on the Card Reader mounting bracket. (SeeFigure 2-7.)
The following is an overview of the Auxiliary Processor'sfunctions and a discussion of the Auxiliary Processor PCBInterface.
Functional and Operational Overview
The Auxiliary Processor PCB performs configuration, communication (interface), and management functions for theCVC unit. The board contains an 8051-based, programmablemicro-controller board (Dallas Stick) with battery backedSRAM. The SRAM contains the processor's operatingprogram and other system interface operating data.
When the CVC is in "Management Mode", the main processortransmits the configuration data to the Auxiliary ProcessorPCB via the Inter-Processor Communication (IPC) interface. The Auxiliary Processor stores the data in the SRAM.
The Auxiliary Processor also accumulates system activity andtransaction totals, also stored in the SRAM. During datacollection and activity reporting, the Auxiliary Processortransfers the data to an external PC conta in ingSchlumberger's RECAP Software via an RS-232 DataCollection Port.
When the CVC is equipped with a Card Reader, the AuxiliaryProcessor also controls the Card Reader's operation. An
overview of the Card Reader's operation is provided followingthis section.
Auxiliary Processor Interface
Power is supplied to the Auxiliary Processor PCB through the3-pin Interface Connector (J10) shown in Table 2-5.
Communication between the Auxiliary Processor and the CVCMain Processor occurs via the 10-pin inter-processorcommunications interface connector (J8). See Table 2-6 for apinout of this connector.
The data collection port uses the 8-pin interface connector(J12) on the Auxiliary Processor PCB. See Table 2-7 for apinout of this connector.

"D" Card Reader Operation
"D" CARD Reader operation is controlled by the auxiliaryprocessor board attached mounted on top of the Card ReaderAssembly. The "D" Reader Auxiliary Processor also handlesvarious configuration, communication, and managementfunctions for the rest of the Card Value Center.
An overview of the "D" Reader Read/Write operation and the"D" Reader Interface is provided below. An overview of theAuxiliary processor's configuration, communication, andmanagement functions are described under "AuxiliaryProcessor Operation".
"D" Reader Read/Write Operation
Data is read from and written to the magnetic stripe of a card bymoving the card past a stationary magnetic head. Data is readfrom the stripe as the card is transported toward the rear of thereader. Data is written to the stripe as the card is driven outward.
When a card is inserted into the reader, an opto detectorsignals the controller indicating a card is being inserted. TheAuxiliary Processor then signals the reader to turn on its DClinear motor and transport the card inside. (There is a secondopto detector that ensures a card has been inserted.) As apinch roller pulls the card past the magnetic head, the headscans the stripe (this is often referred to as reading the stripe)and relays this scanned information to the processor, whichsets up a place in memory for temporary storage of the data.
When a third opto detector at the back of the reader signalsthe Auxiliary processor that the card has reached the rear ofthe reader, the processor signals the motor to stop.
"D" Card Reader Interfaces
Power is supplied to the "D" Card Reader through the 3-pininterface connector (J10) shown in Table 2-5
Communication between the "D" Reader Auxiliary processorand the Main CVC processor occurs through the 10-pin IPCinterface connector (J8). The function of each line is shown inTable 2-6. The data collection port utilizes the 8-pin interfaceconnector (J12) shown in Table 2-7.
Smart Card Reader Operation
Smart Card Reader operation is controlled by the auxiliaryprocessor board in the Smart Card Reader Assembly. Thereaders auxiliary processor handles various configuration, communication, and management functions for the CVC.
An overview of the Smart Card Reader's Read/Write operationand the card reader interface is provided below. Refer to"Auxiliary Processor Operation" for information on theAuxiliary Processor configuration, communication, andmanagement functions.
Smart Card Reader Read/Write Operation
When a Smart Card is fully inserted into the card carriage, theintegrated chip embedded on the card contacts the pins on thecard carriage. A micro-switch inside the card carriage signalsthe Auxiliary Processor that a card is present. If Payflex cardsare used in a Card Value Center, an Add Value Security AccessModule (AV SAM) MUST be installed in the SAM holderlocated on the auxiliary processor board.
Communication between the Smart Card and the AuxiliaryProcessor occurs via serial data and a clock signal line. TheAuxiliary Processor reads the data on the smart card and, providing the card meets acceptance criteria, then relays thedata to the main CVC processor.
Following each transaction the Auxiliary Processor writes tothe card and updates the card's value. After all thetransactions are terminated, the Auxiliary Processor activatesa solenoid that ejects the card from the carriage.
Smart Card Reader Interface
See figure 2-7 for connector locations. The Smart CardInterfaces are functionally identical to the Auxiliary ProcessorPCB Interfaces.

Card Dispenser Operation
Card stacker operation is discussed in two parts: (1) first, anoverview of Card Dispenser's functions, then (2) a discussionof the interface.
Functions/Operational Overview
The card dispenser (Figure 2-8) has two basic functions:
It stores the user cards. It dispenses these cards.
Card Storage
Cards are stored in the stacker compartment, magnetic stripeup or with smart cards—graphics/ micro-chip side up with ametal weight placed on the stacked cards. As long as one ormore cards are in the stacker, this weight causes the card(s) todepress a mechanism called the card sensor. However(because the weight has a cutout on either side that prevents itfrom coming into contact with this sensor), when the last cardis dispensed, the sensor is released—alerting the processorthat the stacker is empty.
Card Dispensing
The Card Dispenser signals the CVC Main Processor that it isready to dispenses a card as long as the stacker is not empty, jammed, and there are no cards sitting in the dischargedposition. The CVC processor signals the dispenser to dispensea card whenever the card vend price has been met or whenswitch S3 on the main processor board is pressed.
When the dispenser dispenses a card, a built in optical sensordetects when the card advances to the discharged position. Ifthe card is not detected in that position, the dispenserautomatically attempts a card four more times beforesignaling the main processor of a "Jammed" condition. Whenthe card does dispense to the discharged position, thedispenser status remains "NOT-READY" until the user removesthe card from the front of the unit.
Interface
Power is supplied to the card stacker through the 12-pininterface connector, shown in Table 2-8. Communicationbetween the card dispenser and the interface PCB occursthrough the same 12-pin interface connector. This interfaceuses five control lines:
Three from the Card Dispenser (empty, jam, and ready) Two from the CVC processor (Reset and Dispense)
The function of each line is shown in Table 2-8.

Main PCB Operation
This discussion of the main PCB is divided into two parts: (1)first, an overview of PCB operation, then (2) pinouts of some ofthe PCB connectors.
Operational Overview
The main PCB controls Card Value Center operation. Itreceives the data sent out by the various Card Value Centermodules, processes this data, and sends operatinginstructions back to the modules. See Figure 2-12 for a blockdiagram of the main PCB A description of the various PCBcomponents (shown in Figure 2-11) follows.
J14 Power Connector— connects the PCB to the powersupply.
Lithium Battery— This non-rechargeable, lithium battery is apart of the power down, or backup, circuit. When power isremoved from the main PCB, this battery protects theinformation stored in the static RAM. The battery is soldered tothe board.
Beeper— creates the tone which sounds when a key on thekeypad is pressed.
U6 EPROM— contains the operating program run by theprocessor.
U4 DPAL— The DPAL (DANYL Programmable Array Logic)directs ADDRESS lines out to specific board components, orchips. These ADDRESS lines are used to enable a specific chipso that information can be sent to or received from that chip. For example, if the processor wants to send a message to thebill acceptor, it sends to the DPAL the unique address codethat identifies the U17 8255 PIA (the chip through which theprocessor communicates with the bill acceptor).
U3 Static RAM Chip— stores Card Value Center data. It isused for calculations and to store hardware and Auto Disableconfiguration.
J8 Bill Acceptor Interface Connector— used to transmitmessages to and from the bill acceptor. (Refer to Table 2-3 todetermine the function of each pin.)
M1, M2, M3 Electro-mechanical Counters— For each type oftransaction, the processor updates the appropriatenon-resettable counter:
M1—indicates the cash-to-card transaction M2—indicates the cash-to-account transaction M3—indicates the value of card purchases in dollars
Because these meters are non-resettable, they initially reflectcounts recorded during factory testing.
U1 8032 Processor— This microprocessor is the main PCBcomputer—the controlling device on the board. It runs theEPROM program, and, based on this program and theinformation received from other board components, makes allCard Value Center decisions.

Swipe Reader Operation
Swipe reader operation is explained in two parts: (1) first, anoverview of swipe reader functions and operation, then (2) adiscussion of the swipe reader interface.
Functions/Operational Overview
The swipe reader is used to enter access codes to CVCs withon-line capabilities. As the user swipes his magneticallyencoded card through the reader, the magnetic stripe on thecard passes a magnetic head inside the reader. The headscans the stripe (this is often referred to as reading the stripe)and relays the scanned information to the Interface PCB,which in turn relays it to the main CVC processor. (SeeFig. 2-13).
Swipe Reader Interface
Power is supplied to the swipe reader via two power linesbrought in through the 26-pin reader interface (Table 2-15).This interface uses one serial output line (READER DATA) andthree control lines:
two from the reader (CARD MOVEMENT and READERCLOCK 1)
one from the CVC (READER ENABLE)
The function of each line is shown in Table 2-15.

CVC Door Switch Operation
The CVC has three door switches: one for each interior door(Bill Mechanism Compartment and the Card DispenserCompartment), and one switch for the CVC's front panel. (SeeFigure 1-5.) With any switch in the "Open" position, meaning thedoor is open, the main CVC Processor signals the unit todisplay "OUT OF SERVICE" on the main display, and energizesthe Security Relay (Refer to Security Signal Operation for moreon the security functions).
With On-line systems the main processor also notifies the hostcomputer of an "Alarm Condition" whenever any of the doors isopen.
Door Switch Interface
The Door Switches signal the processor via a six conductorcable harness. Table 2-16 shows the function of each line.
Security Signal Operation
For added security to your system, the CVC can be upgraded toallow external devices to interface with the security signals onthe Main Processor. These security signals are connected to arelay (Security Relay) that, is energized when the CVC is in the"OUT OF SERVICE" mode.
To interface with these security signals, the external deviceconnects to the CVC via jack J4 on the Interface PCB. Thesignals to this connector function as a normally-open switchsignal to the Main Processor. When the two signals areshorted together by the external device, the Main Processorenergizes the Security Relay and places the CVC in the "OUTOF SERVICE" mode.
Security Signal Interface
Door switch signal interface occurs via a SchlumbergerSecurity Signal cable. This is a cable with a 5-pin connector atone end and five color coded unterminated wires at the other.Table 2-17 shows the function of each line.

Printer Operation
Printer Operation is explained in two parts, (1) an overview ofPrinter functions and operation, then (2) a discussion of thePrinter Interface.
Functional/Operational Overview
The 24-character thermal dot-line Printer is used to printreceipts and reports for CVC transactions. The CVC MainProcessor communicates with the Printer Processor via theInter-Processor Communication (IPC) interface. (See Figure2-16.)
When a user requests a receipt, the CVC Main Processorsends the transaction data and a print request to the PrinterProcessor PCB.
The Printer Processor also communicates with the thermalhead controller chip located on the Printer Processor PCB.The thermal head controller monitors three sensors built intothe Printer head. The sensors are actuated when the Printer isout of paper, the mechanical head switch is left in the Upposition, or abnormal thermal head temperatures aredetected. (If any of the sensors are activated, the thermal headcontroller will deactivate the Printer head.
When the thermal paper roll gets low (approximately 20% orless), a built-in sensor in the Printer assembly is activated, andthe Printer Processor notifies the CVC Main Processor of a"Paper-low" condition.
Printer Jumper and Switch Settings
The programmable jumpers located on the Printer PCB (JP3and JP4) should be set to the open position unless there is noCard Reader. (See Figure 2-17.)
The function of the Printer DIP Switch (SW1) is shown in Table2-20. The factory switch settings are indicated with an asterisk(*) and should not be changed.
The Potentiometer (R20) on the Printer PCB is provided toadjust the thermal print density. (See Figure 2-17.)
Printer Interface
Power is supplied to the Printer through the 4-pin Interfaceconnector (J2) shown in Table 2-19.
Communication between the Printer Processor and the CVCMain Processor via the Inter-processor Communication (IPC)interface on J5. The IPC Interface uses separate receive andtransmit, data and clock lines with a reset and select signal asshown in Table 2-6.
The IPC signals are relayed from the Printer PCB to the CardReader or the Auxiliary Processor depending on the CVCConfiguration. The pinout of the 8-pin Printer to CardReader/Aux. Interface (J6) is shown in Table 2-6.

ITT Operation
NBS TURBO/Integrated Transaction Terminal (ITT) operationis explained in two parts, (1) an overview of ITT functions andoperation, then (2) a discussion of the ITT Interface.
Functional/Operational Overview
The CVCCOM/BANK kit includes a NBS TURBO transactionprocessing unit, a RAM UART board, required cables andmounting hardware. The NBS TURBO unit is required tocomplete the transactions to the host processor. The CVCcommunicates with the TURBO via the communication linkthat is provided by the RAM UART board.
The CVC/DES/KB kit includes a DES encrypted keypad and aninterface cable to the ITT. The keypad is required forencrypting the PIN entry used during debit transactions.
Interface
Power is supplied to the Turbo through the 3-pin Aux PowerCable connector (J11) on the Interface PCB shown in Figure2-13. Power for the RAM/UART board is obtained from JumperJA3 on the main processor board.
A cable from the ITT PRINTER port connects the ITT to J2 onthe RAM/UART board. The cable from the Pinpad plugs into thesocket marked pinpad on the ITT.

5-10 Troubleshooting
![Page 79: Schlumberger - smartvendcorp.com The information in this document is subject to change without notice.Schlumberger Technologies, Inc. assumes no responsibility for …](https://reader031.fdocuments.us/reader031/viewer/2022030507/5ab5b83b7f8b9a2f438cea20/html5/thumbnails/79.jpg)
ITT (Turbo) Error Messages
Error messages on the CVC are reported in three ways:
1 Upon power up confidence testing
2 Asterisk indication
3 User driven
While the CVC has the capability to report errors for all areas ofoperation, this chapter will concentrate on those that arespecific to the Debit / Credit features. Other error messagesare describe in Appendix A.
Power Up Confidence Testing
Upon the power up of a CVC unit, there are a series of tests thatthe unit runs on its internal hardware systems to verify thateverything is operating properly. Part of this test covers theITT unit and DES keypad that are integral to the Debit / Creditkit.
Keypad
On the power on test the unit checks the keypad forfunctionality and reports the following message for a goodunit:
Pinpad OK
If the unit is bad the CVC will display:
Pinpad Bad
ITT
The ITT unit is queried for its status from the CVC mainprocessor upon power up. The ITT unit will report a statuscode of its operational status to the unit. The status code willappear as follows:
Turbo 00000000
If the ITT does not respond at all to the CVC then the CVC willdisplay the following message:
Turbo BADPinpad BAD
The status code can be interpreted using the following table:
Byte Number Status Message
Byte 0`0' = pinpad okay`1' = pinpad problem'2' = working key missing
Byte 1 `0' = line okay`1' = line unavailable
Byte 2`0' = Turbo ok`1' = Reload required`2' = Settling/Closing
Byte 3 `0' - `9' Batch Used %`F' = Batch Full
Byte 4 `0' = No CHK/SAV`1' = CHK/SAV req'd
Byte 5 `0' = Normal mode`1' = Demo mode
Byte 6 - 7 byte 6 - 7 unassigned
NOTE: The bytes in the status code are read from right to left.(76543210) For example, status = “00101010” tells you:
Pinpad is okLine is unavailableITT is okBatch 1 is usedNo CHK/SAVMode is DEMO
In a normal power up scenario, the unit will indicate all zero'swith the exception of Byte 3 which will indicate the % of thebatch used.
Code Revision Levels
The final check that is done on the CVC is an indication of thecode revision levels in the unit. While there are fourprocessors on the unit, with the Debit / Credit kit installed, thecode relating to the Debit / Credit kit will be indicated asfollows:
1. TBOS V1.04.00a2. Danyl Vxxxxxxxxx3. Danyl - 9600 V1.03
TBOS is the operating code for the ITT unit. It should be at theversion level indicated above.
ITT (Turbo) Error Messages 5-11
Schlumberger Card Value Center Service Manual
![Page 80: Schlumberger - smartvendcorp.com The information in this document is subject to change without notice.Schlumberger Technologies, Inc. assumes no responsibility for …](https://reader031.fdocuments.us/reader031/viewer/2022030507/5ab5b83b7f8b9a2f438cea20/html5/thumbnails/80.jpg)
The code in item #2 is the application code that is loaded in theunit. This version will vary depending on the network host thatthe unit is interfaced with. See the section of this chapter"Parameter Descriptions" for the version that corresponds tothe application.
The code in item #3 is the version of code that is run on the DESkeypad. This should be the same version as indicated above.
Asterisk Indication
To handle conditions with the machine that may occur while itis powered up, the CVC provided for real time displaymessages. When the unit determines that it has a problem thatwill affect the performance of the machine, an asterisk will bedisplayed in the idle prompt to indicate that there is an error. The asterisk will appear as follows on the idle screen:
Welcome to theCard Value CenterPress any key
* To Begin *
To find out the error condition, continue to press the functionkey that corresponds to the asterisk. This process may take
the user through several layers of screen prompts beforeeventually indicating the error message. The error messagethat will correspond to a bad turbo unit will be:
No On-line CommCall for service
User Driven Errors
During the operation of the unit, if the Debit and Creditprocessing kits experience difficulty, the unit will update itscondition via the asterisk indicators. These indicators, however will go unnoticed by users. A user will generate anerror message if he tries to initiate a debit or credit transactionwhile the processing kit is non functional. The error messagethat will appear is as follows:
No Online CommCall for service
In the case that the swipe reader is defective, the unit will lockup whenever a credit or debit transaction is attempted. Oncethe unit indicates that the card should be swiped through thereader, the unit will lock up.
