Desperate: 1. Reckless or dangerous because of despair or
urgency: 2. having an urgent need, desire, etc.: 3. making a
final, ultimate effort; giving all.
We’ve all felt desperate before. Usually that desperation is the
result of lack of hope and something that has taken place in
our lives that leaves us out of control. I’ve seen it when
couples come and talk to me when their marriage is falling apart. I’ve seen it in
hospital and hospice rooms when life is hanging on by a thread. I’ve seen it in the
eyes of teenagers when angst has left them wondering who they and if they will
ever feel differently again. Some of you reading this right now feel desperation. My
prayer is that you will sense the presence of God in this moment.
As a pastor, I have felt desperate for the church’s future. Usually that desperation
comes when I forget that I am not the one responsible for the future of the church.
God is in control – not me. My call is just to be faithful.
But I want to call each of us to a renewed sense of desperation. But not the type of
desperation I just wrote about above. Read again the definitions of desperation at
the top of this article (Go ahead…I’ll wait). I want to call each of us to a renewed
sense of desperation – not one born out of hopeless and grief. But a desperation
born out of an urgency…out of a desire…out of a need for God. The world needs
Christians who are desperate for God. The church needs members who are
desperate for God.
Transformation of lives is born out of a desperation for God and His Kingdom.
What type of desperation do you want to live under?
O Lord, help us to be desperate for you! Help us to have an urgency of your Spirit
working through our lives daily for your glory. I know that you desire a church that
has at its core a desperate longing for your presence. So come O God, and infuse
within us this desire, this urgency, this need for You. Amen!

UMW Book Review Wednesday, September 3
Church Library at 2:00 p.m.
Greetings! I trust that you are doing well and prepared for the Fall. I wanted to share with
you our new youth shirts for the Fall. Our youth shirt designs are not random and in fact are great reminders to our youth of what we are talking about. This next semester we are going to be talking about “Getting Real”. The idea is to help the youth come into a realization of where God is calling them to be in the future. In order for believers to
get where God wants them, they have to know where they have been and where they are. Believers also have to know who they are, hints the C-O-G in the design, which stands for Child of God. The reason for the robot lettering and Robby the Robot on the back is to remind the youth to not live like robots going through the motions, but live intentionally. So, this Fall when someone ask you what the meaning of our shirts are you can explain it. Please be in prayer for our youth this Fall! -TL By the way if you would like a shirt you may contact me at (806)336-
1699.

“Sharing God’s Story for 125 Years”
Your Records and History Committee hopes that you are looking forward to the month-long celebration this October when we celebrate our 125th birthday. Here’s a sample of what to
look for:
1. Under the leadership of John Barnhart and his committee, we have produced our 125th year pictorial directory which has now arrived.
Watch for more details soon.
2. Under the leadership of Scott Robinson, we have sent off the proof of the Christmas ornament marking our 125th year. Each ornament will cost $15.00. Add these to your
Christmas list for all your family and friends.
3. Displays are going up in the Narthex and the Parlor which detail the happenings of our church. Many people have already enjoyed the Fellowship Quilt. This quilt was started in 1954 by the Naomi Hare Circle. Blocks were purchased by church members, and the Circle members embroidered their names.
Names in gold were for deceased members.
Greetings Church! Choir began on Sunday, the 24th for Picnic Sunday. On Wednesday, the 27th of August, we will begin our usual rehearsal schedule beginning at 7:15. We have a very exciting season ahead of us including a Christmas cantata. All are welcome and invited to attend. God bless and see you soon! Mel Brooks Chancel Choir Director [email protected]

Dear Friends, We want to invite you to join one of our growgroups this Fall. As a church our calling is to GLORIFY God in worship, GROW in like-ness of Jesus and GIVE our lives in love of Jesus. Growgroups at FUMC are what we call all of our “small group” ministries. Our goal is to have everyone involved in some type of group. We don’t expect you to be in more than one group a week, but we do expect you to be in a group. We offer the following types of growgroups.
Sermon-based groups - Smaller groups of 10-12 disciples that covenant to go deep together through study, prayer, account-ability and mission. Sermon-based groups discuss the sermon from the previous Sunday as well as alternating in other specific curriculum for the overall spiritual development of the participants.
Topical groups - Groups that meet at various times throughout the week. These groups cover a specific topic or curriculum. Examples of a topical growgroup would be Beth Moore, Disciple Bible Study or other approved material.
Sunday morning groups - Groups that meet Sunday mornings at our church at 10:10 a.m. These groups are also known as Sunday school.
Below is a list of our Fall growgroups starting in September.
