1 – This Society shall be called MALHAMDALE AGRICULTURAL AND HORTICULTURALSOCIETY and these rules are made by its trustees under its constitution as a Charitable IncorporatedOrganisation.

2 – The object of the Society is the improvement of Agriculture, Horticulture and Livestock Breeding forthe public benefit by organising and holding an Annual Show.

3 – Membership of the Society shall be open to all who agree in good faith to further the purposes of theSociety and sign the membership register.

4 – The officers of the Society shall consist of a President, President-Elect, Chairman, Secretary, Treasurerand General Committee, five to form a quorum.

5 – All officers and General Committee members shall be elected annually at the Annual General Meetingof this Society which shall be held on such a day at such a place as the General Committee may appoint.Chairman’s term of office: maximum 3 years. Notwithstanding this rule a former chairman may standfor re-election after a lapse of 3 years from his/her former term of office. All members of the GeneralCommittee must be resident within the Local Radius as defined in Rule 12; notwithstanding a personliving outside the Local Radius may be co-opted as a full voting member of the General Committee bythe General Committee at the Annual General Meeting.

6 – The Secretary or, if necessary, a substitute appointed by the General Committee shall attend all fullmeetings of the Society, keep minutes of all proceedings and give notice of future meetings. TheTreasurer shall keep and present the accounts. The accounts shall be audited annually by an auditor whowill be appointed by the General Committee at the Annual General Meeting.

7 – The affairs of the Society and the application of its funds shall be under the management of the GeneralCommittee, by whom all matters of dispute shall be settled. At least one trustee must always be presentat Committee Meetings.

8 – Any new Vice-Presidents shall be elected at any full meeting of the Society and shall be subscribers ofnot less than a sum to be decided annually by the General Committee at the Annual General Meeting.

9 – The Society reserves the right to cancel any class with insufficient entries.10 – Every person who exhibits does so subject to the Rules of the Society; and if a dispute arises for which

no special rule is laid down, the same shall be referred to the General Committee, whose decision in allcases shall be final and conclusive.

11 – Any objection to any of the Exhibits must be placed before the Secretary before 3.30 p.m. with a depositfee of £5. If the objection is not upheld this sum will be forfeited.

12 – Radius limit for local classes to the Townships of Malham Moor, Malham, Kirkby Malham, Hanlith,Scosthrop, Airton, Otterburn, Calton, Winterburn, Bell Busk, Coniston Cold, Eshton, Bordley, togetherwith Darnbrook Farm and Cowside Farm.

13 – In the local classes, all stock must have been in the hands of the Exhibitor for not less than three months,and to be summered within the Society’s Local Radius.

14 – In all classes the Judges’ decision shall be final.15 – No Exhibit or Prize Card shall be removed from the show until 4 p.m. for the Agricultural and Stock

and 4.30 p.m. for the Horticultural, Produce and Handicraft Exhibits except with the consent of theSecretary. Any exhibits left on the showfield after 5 p.m. will be sold along with the Gift Class.

16 – The General Committee reserves the right to eject or to have ejected from the showground any personwho shall be guilty of noisy or disorderly conduct or shall be guilty of any practice likely to annoy orharrass or alarm any other person attending the Show or who shall interfere with the quiet use of theshowground by any other person.

17 – It is a condition of acceptance of each entry, whether for the Show, Sports or other competition orexhibition in connection therewith, that neither the Society nor its officers or servants shall beresponsible for any damage, injury or loss to any exhibitor or competitor, or any exhibit or otherproperty belonging to any exhibitor or competitor, howsoever the same shall arise or be caused, whetherby the negligent, wilful, accidental act or omission of the Society, its officers or servants, or otherwise.

18 – The Society, its officers and servants, or any of them, shall not be liable to any person, whether anexhibitor or competitor or not for damage, injury or loss that person or his property at or in connectionwith the holding of the Show or Sports, howsoever the same shall arise or be caused whether by thenegligent, wilful or accidental act or omission of the Society, its officers or servants, or otherwise.

19 – When age is taken into account, entrants must be within the age limit on the day of the Show.20 – The Show will be held on the Saturday before August Bank Holiday Monday.21 – First Prize will be awarded regardless of number of entries or standard.

However, there will be a designated area to the right of the main entrance which will be available for those who are

unabled to walk from the main car park. An undercover seating area will be provided by the

Main Ring for these people.

returned to the appropriate Entry Secretary or delivered to Town End Farm Shop, Airton, by thegiven closing date.

Exhibitors are asked to read the Schedule carefully so that both they and their exhibitscomply exactly with the requirements for the classes they wish to enter.

Judging in Sections B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L and M5-M10 will commence at 9.30 a.m.prompt. Judging in Sections M1-M4 (Special Sheep) will commence at 1.30 p.m.

Judging in Sections O, P, Q, S, T, U, V, will commence at 10 a.m. prompt. Exhibits in thesesections which are not ready at this time will not be judged. No exhibits in these sections will beaccepted after this time.

Requested prize winning animals are to be paraded when announced. Failure to do so will renderthem liable to having the prize money withheld.

All cups in the sheep classes will be presented after judging of the Champion at the sheep pens.All livestock to remain on the Show Field until 16.30 on Show Day.All exhibits to remain on the Show Field until 16.30 on Show Day.Any exhibits left on the Show Field after 17.00 will be sold along with the Gift Class.Any Adult Exhibitor paying more than £3 in Entry Fees is entitled to one Free Admission Ticket.Entry tickets will only be sent in advance for stock entries – i.e. Cattle, Sheep and Horses.

Two tickets will be sent – one for the driver and one for the handler. All other occupants of stockvehicles will be asked to pay the Admission Fee.

Working Hunter and Show Jumping entrants will be allowed in under the same conditions as thestock entries – i.e. one driver and one handler allowed free admission – all other occupants of horsevehicles will be asked to pay the Admission Fee.

Prize money for Sections O to V will be paid out at 4.15 p.m. in the Produce Tent onproduction of Prize Cards. Anyone not able to do so at that time must arrange to collect theirprize money from the Treasurer within two weeks of the Show, after which this prize money willbe considered to be a donation to the Show.

Full details of the timing and locations of TROPHY PRESENTATION will be printed in theShow Catalogue. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF WINNERS TO ENSURE THAT THEIRTROPHIES ARE SUITABLY ENGRAVED. THIS WILL BE DONE AT THE SOCIETY’SEXPENSE, providing the work is carried out by Chic Engraving, Majestic Buildings, 3-4 AlbertRoad, BARNOLDSWICK BB18 5AA (Tel: 01282 813873) BEFORE THE END OFOCTOBER. Would all last year’s winners please ensure their trophies are returned, suitablycleaned, to the Secretary’s Tent by 10 a.m. at the latest.

Each competitor shall rid and re-wall: 3 yards for Y1; 2 yards for Y2.Foundation course to 2'9".Two rows of “throughs” at 2' and 4'.Each competitor must tie in with his neighbour on either side.Lines for Bottom allowed.Position to be balloted for at 9.00 a.m. on Show Day.All work must cease at 5.00 p.m. on Show Day.A Silver Cup, to be awarded annually to the winner of Y1.The Ambler Walling Cup to be awarded annually to the best competitor in Y1 or Y2 who is a member of any Young Farmers’ Club.A Shield, kindly donated by the YDNPA, to be awarded to the winner of Y2.

Y3 — Sheep Dog Trials. Entry £3.Demonstration Run. Competition to last from 1.30 to 4.00 p.m.1st £25, 2nd £20, 3rd £15, 4th £10, 5th £5.The Semple Cup to be awarded annually to the winner of this Class.

Y4 — Young Handlers’ Competition. 1st £10, 2nd £6, 3rd £4.The Jim Scarborough Memorial Trophy, kindly donated by hisdaughters, Joan Barker and Linda Little, to be awarded annually to thewinner of this class.
