Purpose

The purpose of SCE FCU’s dress code is to communicate professionalism and respect, and inspire confidence in our ability to provide financial counsel and meet member financial needs.

Appearance and demeanor becomes part of the identity or brand of the organization.

Business Casual Attire

Business casual attire may be worn every day at SCE FCU, including Saturdays.

For business casual wear, an SCE FCU logo shirt is mandatory.

SCE FCU logo shirt or sweater set selections may be purchased in white, blue, burgundy, grey or black. All current colors may be worn.

Business Casual Attire – Logo Shirts

Logo shirts may be worn with slacks or skirt. Pants and skirts with belt loops must be belted. In the event that the logo shirt tastefully covers the belt loops, a belt is not required. (see picture at right)

If not, the shirt must be tucked in and the pants or skirt belted. Low rise pants or skirts must be worn with logo shirts that completely cover all skin, even when seated.

Business Casual Attire – What Not To Wear

Stretch pants or skirts or any pants/skirts that are excessively tight may not be worn.

(Rule of thumb: you should be able to pinch 1.5 – 2 inches of trouser fabric in the upper thigh area, directly beneath the buttocks.)

Business Casual Attire - Capris

Capris are not appropriate for business casual wear.

Business Casual Attire - Pants

“Docker” style slacks or dressy cords in tans, grey, blue, olive or black may be worn.

Business Casual Attire - Jackets

Sweaters or casual tailored jackets may be worn as long as the SCE FCU logo shirt is visible.

Sweatshirts and denim jackets are not appropriate for business casual wear.

Business Casual Attire - Skirts

For women, hose is required unless the skirt is below knee-length. Hosiery is optional with trousers.

In this example, hose would be required.

Women’s Shoes – What’s Acceptable

Women may wear closed shoes or open-toed shoes with hard soles.

Sandals with toe straps, or with foam or rubber heals/wedges are not appropriate. Exceptions are visually noted in the HR section of the Intranet.

Professional Business Attire - Men

Men may wear coordinated dress slacks with shirt and tie and trouser socks and dress shoes; sport coats or suit jackets are optional.

If a cardigan sweater vest is worn, it must be accompanied by a business shirt and tie.

Professional Business Attire - Men

Men may wear “docker” style in dark grey, black or navy with a business shirt and tie for professional business attire.

Professional Business Attire - Women

Women may wear business dresses or suits.

Capri suits are appropriate only if the suit is a tailored outfit and dressy in style (not cotton).

In this case, capris must be worn with the matching suit jacket.

If women wear separates, skirts or dress slacks, they must be worn with a coordinated suit jacket.

Professional Business Attire – What Not To Wear

Blouses/sweaters cannot show cleavage, must not be excessively tight, and cannot be made predominately of stretch material.

They cannot be see-through and no undergarments of any kind should be visible.

Professional Business Attire - Skirts

Skirt/dress lengths should reach to the bottom of your fingertips (when standing with arms at your sides), at a minimum.

In this example, the length of the skirt is acceptable. It must, however, be worn with hose.

Casual Wear

Casual wear is permitted only on non-payroll Fridays.

All staff may wear denim slacks, skirts, SCE FCU logo shirts, socks and tennis shoes.

The shirt style in this picture is available through the logo shirt order catalog on the HR

intranet page.

Casual Wear - Shirts

Staff may wear casual cotton shirts and dress T-shirts (SCE FCU, CMF, MBS logo or no logos).

Casual shirts/ T-shirts cannot show any cleavage, must not be excessively tight, and cannot be made of stretch material.

They cannot be see-through and no undergarments of any kind should be visible.

Casual Wear - Pants

Jeans/ pants/ skirts that have belt loops should be belted, with shirts tucked in, unless the shirt tastefully covers the belt loops.

Capri’s that are mid-calf length are appropriate for casual wear. The same rules that apply to business casual trousers apply to jeans and Capri’s.

Jeans and Capri’s must be loose enough in the leg that you can pinch 1.5-2 inches of fabric below the buttocks.

Casual Wear

All clothes must be freshly laundered, pressed and in good condition.

Skirts may be worn with sandals (without hosiery).

Sandals must be hard-soled; sandals with toe straps or foam or cork or soft rubber heels/ wedges may not be worn

Casual Wear – Inappropriate Items

Casual wear is NEVER appropriate on SATURDAYS.

Inappropriate items include: Cotton knit leggings, stretch pants, sweatshirts or any other logo wear (other than SCE FCU logo wear)

Appropriate Grooming - Hair

Men should be clean-shaven or wear neatly trimmed beards or mustaches. All staff should be neatly groomed when they arrive at work.

It is never appropriate to arrive at work with wet hair.

Appropriate Grooming – Body Art

Tattoos over ¾” in diameter (nickel size) need to be covered and not be visible.

Body piercing jewelry, including tongue rings/studs (except earrings) must be removed while at work.

Exceptions will be made on an individual basis where appropriate (e.g. for religious reasons).

Name badges are required for all staff with member contact.

Name badges are highly recommended for all staff to promote professional member service. Joe Smith

Conclusion

Management reserves the right to make a determination as to what is appropriate in the application of this policy.

If you report to work inappropriately attired (clothes and/or shoes), you be directed to return home to change into more appropriate attire, and will receive no pay for the period of time you are absent for this purpose.

If this occurs a second time, you will receive a written warning.

If you are unsure if a garment is acceptable, please ask your manager or consult the HR department for approval.
