description

How Scarlet Macaws Fly Macaws fly by twisting the part of their wings closest to their body and catching the air in their wings then flapping downward to get lift. When they flap upward they lose lift so they bob up and down. The airfoil (shape of the wing) helps the macaw to glide too. Air takes longer to go over the wing of the Macaw than to go under it. If you increase speed you decrease pressure. The air that goes over the wing has to go faster so it can meet up with the air that goes under the wing. That changes the pressure from high to low pressure helping the birds to fly.

How Scarlet Macaws take off

Scarlet macaws are large birds. But how do they take off?

They change the direction of the air pushing against their wings pushing it down ward. This gives them lift. This called the Angle of Attack. It must be the perfect amount of air all through their wing, so that they are able to get up. If there is not enough air they will not lift. If there is too much they will drag.
