Why is SBR relevant for SuperStream?

Cooper recommended that these standards should address transactions between employer and fund, fund and member, and between funds.

The Government supports this recommendation, noting that SBR compatible standards should be considered.

What is SBR?

Standard Business Reporting (SBR) is an Australian Government initiative to reduce the business-to-government reporting burden. This major whole-of-government project streamlines business-to-government reporting through their SBR-enabled accounting/payroll software and will save business time and money.

Using SBR-enabled software will allow Australian businesses to prepare and lodge key government forms directly from their software to SBR partner agencies. Businesses will need to register for an AUSkey which will allow them to send reports via SBR.

Primary aims of SBR – where the savings are

Standards to reduce cost to business

Harmonisation and reduction of reported data

Ability to map/attach meaning to business and financial data

Reporting data becomes a by-product of normal business record keeping/accounting processes

Have reports pre-filled in business software

As far as possible – automate the reporting process

Page 6: SBR in SuperStream John McAlister Standard Business Reporting March 2011.

Definitional – dictionary of agreed terms that comprise the common language

Reporting taxonomy – specific structures (expressed in the common language) for the exchange of data

Summary

Government intent is to re-use SBR to deliver SuperStream.

SBR offers many benefits in standardising information exchange.

There are various models that could be used to deliver SuperStream through SBR.

The advice of this group will help Government determine which is the best model to implement.
