Why not start your summer by experiencing an evening of open air theatre at Stafford Castle, where the performance of Shakespeare’s Othello promises to be another great show.

There are so many great things planned for children in Stafford that the kids won’t get a chance to say “I’m bored!” They will love all the fun ‘Step Into’ holiday activities. You can also take them to the Stafford Festival ‘Party in the Park’ fun day, where they will get to see Postman Pat® himself!

Then there is the award winning Victoria Park where children can play in the splash pad or why not visit the brilliant new play area at Wildwood Park, which includes an exciting zip wire!

Victoria Park, Stafford

Party in the Park is guaranteed family entertainment. Come along to Victoria Park and enjoy face painting, art workshops, street theatre and more. Children will also get the chance to see Postman Pat®, Jess the Cat & Ben Taylor in their ‘Special Baking Service’ mini show. Free admission, with some activities incurring a small 50p charge.

Tuesday 5 July to Saturday 10 September | 10am - 4pm Treasure! The Discovery of the Staffordshire Hoard

Ancient High House, Greengate Street, Stafford

An interactive exhibition telling the fascinating story of how the Hoard was found and saved for the nation. Free Admission. Supported by Staffordshire County Council with the help of the Mercian Trail Partnership.

Wednesday 6 July to Saturday 9 July | 7.30pm

(2.30pm matinee on Saturday 9 July) Musical Youth Theatre Stafford presents Bugsy Malone

Stafford Gatehouse Theatre, Eastgate Street

Two gangs square off in a 1920’s rivalry of Capone-ian standards. Dandy Dan’s gang has the upper hand since obtaining the 'splurge' gun. Now Fat Sam and his bumbling baffoons are in real trouble! Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust not-so-willingly into the gangster limelight, when he becomes the last chance Fat Sam’s gang has of surviving. All Bugsy really wants to do is spend time with his new love Blousey; but that just isn’t on the cards for our hero.

The town comes alive every July as the annual Stafford Festival explodes with live music and entertainment! The festival programme has grown in popularity since 1991 so come along to the castle, kick off your shoes and enjoy live bands, acoustic acts and the DJ area! Sunday 10 July | 12noon - 5pm Teddy Bears’ Picnic

Izaak Walton’s Cottage, Shallowford

Enjoy family fun and games in the cottage garden, with puppet show, face painting, teddy making workshops, storytelling, craft stalls and a bouncy castle for the younger family members. Bring along a picnic and don’t forget your teddy! Free admission if accompanied by a teddy bear. Supported by the Izaak Walton Cottage Chapter.

Sunday 31 July | 11am - 5pm Classic Car Show

Stafford Castle, Newport Road

A classic car treat and vintage fun for all the family. Classic, vintage and collectors cars on display, with trophies for best car in class. With children’s games, quizzes and activities, including mini Land Rover rides, Slot car racing, vintage cycles, auto mart and craft stalls. Free admission, car parking £3.

Stafford Gatehouse Youth Theatre, Summer School presents Loserville! Now meet the Class of 1971. This is their story and now it’s a musical. LOSERVILLE is an all new British musical written by Elliot Davis and James Bourne (of pop-rock bands Busted and Son of Dork).

Stafford Castle, Newport Road

An end to the Dark Ages - visit the dawn of Norman England with costumed characters and hands on activities. Witness the sights and sounds of the 11th century; with sword play, music, dancing, and games. Meet peddlers, peasants, knights and damsels. Enjoy a ‘hands on’ history talk in the Visitor Centre and a guided tour of one of the largest surviving Norman fortifications in England. Free admission, car parking £3.

Stafford Town Centre

A new event for 2016, the Stafford 10K will start in Stafford town centre, winding its way around the town centre towards Beaconside, before returning to town via the Isabel Trail and the iconic Victoria Park. Crowds are expected to line the route to cheer on the participants and help them enjoy the thrill of the race. First built by William the Conqueror the castle has dominated Stafford's skyline for over 900 years. The Visitor Centre has an audio visual display telling the history of the castle. You can also try brass rubbing and coin minting, visit the gift shop or just enjoy the circular woodland trail and discover the sites flora and fauna.

Four hundred years of history are waiting to be discovered within the walls of England’s largest Elizabethan timber framed town house. The museum offers an exciting glimpse into the lives of the people who have lived there over the centuries.During your visit you can browse the gallery which has exhibitions by regional artists and visit the gift shop which has a range of local history books as well as gifts and souvenirs.

Nestled in the tranquil Staffordshire countryside the Izaak Walton's Cottage was once owned by the celebrated English author best known for writing the Compleat Angler. The museum gives visitors an insight into his life and his influence as an early conservationist. Visitors can wander around the fragrant herb garden and scented rose garden, perfect for a relaxing afternoon.

Victoria ParkGreen Flag award winning park and winner of Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor Victoria Park is located on the banks of the River Sow in the heart of Stafford. The park offers a wide range of facilities all year round for all ages to engage in recreation activities including a fantastic play area offering a wide range of play equipment for everyone, or for the more brave at heart we also have a skatebowl, popular with skateboarders and bikers. Fancy something a bit slower? Why not have a casual game of bowls on our green? Or if you just want somewhere to relax, the grassy banks provide a perfect opportunity to sit and relax watching the ducks go by or take a slow stroll through our glasshouse and look at the tropical plants.

Wildwood ParkPerhaps one of our most stunning parks, located in the southern end of Stafford with far reaching views across the canal and Radford Meadows Nature reserve making this park an idyllic spot to escape for a while. If relaxation isn’t on the cards you can take part in a game of tennis, work up a sweat on the outdoor gym equipment or take on the challenge of the wheeled sports area. There’s also an exciting play area with a wide range of equipment for all ages including a zip wire!

Rowley ParkOur sporting park, offering not only a 3G artificial pitch but also a multi-use games area, tennis courts, bowling green and athletics track. If sports aren’t what you’re after the large grass areas and play area provide ample space for children and families to play.

Stonefield ParkIt may be small but it’s got a lot to offer! Tucked away in the heart of Stone this once adults only park is now open and loved by all. With an aviary, bowling green, tennis court and play area, there is lots to keep you busy this summer.

The 2017 Stafford Half Marathon will start in Stafford town centre at 10am. The route will head out on traffic-controlled roads, with two steady climbs before returning to the Market Square via Victoria Park.

The field size has been increased to 4000 for 2017, and you can sign up online from early November at
