WHY TRELLO?

Any environment where students can collaborate and organize information will serve as fertile ground for the peer review and other knowledge making purposes. To facilitate teamwork in any capacity, The Bridge is using one of my favorite online collaboration tools: Trello.

THE BASICSA. The Bridge Trello board is a living thing. It

represents the publication process of producing both the online and print versions of the newspaper. It is the perfect place to organize your assignments and collaborate as a team.

B. Lists keep cards organized in their various

stages of progress. They can be used to create an assignment or act as a repository of ideas. Cards can be moved across lists as tasks go from start to finish.

C. The fundamental unit of a board is a card. Cards are used to represent tasks and ideas: something that needs to get done, like a grocery list, or to be remembered, like a book recommendation. There is no limit to the amount of cards you can add to a board.

ADDING A LISTAdd a list to your board by clicking the “Add a list” button on your board. Name your list something that will represent the tasks/assignments that you are going to add to it, perhaps “Ideas” or “To Do.” You can add as many lists to your board as you like.

ADDING A CARDOn your list, click “Add a card,” name your card and then click “Save.”

EDITING YOUR CARDSCards can be customized to hold a wide variety of useful information and facilitate collaboration with anyone, anywhere. Just click on a card to view the contents within.

A. Card Descriptions - Click “Edit the description” at the top of the card back. In the description field you can add more specific information about your card, links to websites, or step by step directions.

B. Comments and Activity - Comments can be added to cards when communicating with team members about a task. You can also @ mention a member of your board to notify them in a comment. The activity feed shows the history of actions that have taken place on a card and creates a timeline of events as progress is made.

C. Add - The add section provides you with more tools for the back of a card. You can add members, labels, checklists, due dates and attachments.

D. Actions - A card can be moved around to a new board or list, and it can also be copied. Any board member can subscribe to a card to receive notifications for actions that occur on that card, and finished cards can be archived. Don’t worry, archived cards can always be retrieved at a later date.

E. Power Ups - Power-Ups turn Trello boards into living applications. The Bridge’s Power-Up allows us to link Google Drive documents and folders to a card.

THE BOARD MENU

The board's menu is where all of the settings and controls for the board are located, as well as the members panel and the board's activity feed.

Within the board's menu you can filter cards on your board, view the board's archived cards and lists, enable power-ups, card aging and voting, and set the board's permissions and settings.

The menu is also where you will be able to find the email-to-board settings, subscribe to the board, copy the board, and share, print and export board options.

FILTERING CARDS ON A BOARD

• Card filters allow you to focus on specific labels, members assigned to cards, due dates and keywords. The filter will stay in place until you dismiss it.

• Select Filter Cards in the Board Menu. You can filter cards by term, labels, members and due date.

REMOVING THE FILTER

Filters will remain on your board until they are cleared, even if you refresh the page or log out. Clear all filters by clicking the "x" in the green "Filtering is on" indicator at the top of your board, by clicking "Clear Filter" at the bottom of the filter menu or by using the "x" keyboard shortcut.

RECEIVING TRELLO NOTIFICATIONSWhen subscribed to a card, you’ll get notifications for…

• All comments from other users

• Adding, changing, and upcoming due dates

• Card moves and archives

When subscribed to a list or board…

• You’ll get the same notifications listed above, but for all cards in a list or board.

• You’ll also get notifications for all newly created cards

And at any time, you’ll get notifications when…

• You are mentioned in a comment.

• You are added to a card, board, or team.

• You are mentioned in a checklist item.

• One of your boards is closed.

• When someone makes you an admin of a board or team.

Notifications are represented on the Trellosite with a bell shaped button in the top right corner. When you have notifications the button turns red. Click on the notifications button to view your notifications. Also, by default you will receive a notification email for any notifications that go unread within Trello.

NOTIFICATION EMAILS AND PREFERENCES

You can change how often you get notification emails in your "Account”page. You can also set your notification email preferences by clicking the Notifications button in the header and selecting "Change Notification Email Frequency." Options are "Never," "Periodically" and "Instantly." "Instantly" is the default and any unread notifications in Trello are emailed out as soon as possible.
