ll my adult life my mama used to tell me, “Kenneth, Jesus is coming this year.” o I would say, “Is that right, Mama?” o

“Yeah,” she’d say, “He’s coming this year. And you had better get yourself straightened out!” o Well, the year would go

by, and no Jesus. But each new year, here she’d go again... o “Kenneth, Jesus is coming this year. You’d better

straighten up!” o “Yes, Mama, I know....” o Occasionally, when she started in on me I would say,

“Mama, you said Jesus was coming last year. What happened?” o She’d say, “I know I did—He’s

coming this year!” o I’m telling you nothing could change her, nothing could influence her. I would even get real spiritual on her and say, “Mama, you’re not supposed to set dates on Jesus’ return.” o “The year don’t count,” she’d say. o So round and round we’d go every year. From the time I was a teenager in school, I was so tired of hearing my mama tell me, “Kenneth, Jesus is coming this year!” o Well, she did that until the day she went home to be with the Lord in 1988. Then, as far as she was concerned, it happened—Jesus came. He came, and off they went together to heaven. The only

difference was, she left her body here instead of taking it with her.

Now, I tell you all of that to say this:JESUS IS COMING!

the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.

Now if there was ever a picture of exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think, this is it. Thousands of people eating bread and fish until they were full, and 12 baskets filled with the leftovers. People today, like people back then, would say, “My, my, what a wonderful miracle of God!” And they’re right. It was a miracle of God. But this was more than a miracle. On that day, time culminated in Jesus. It was compressed, or tightly compacted, within a short space. The growing time for the seed the little boy planted in Jesus’ ministry was instant. Let me show you what I mean. Go back again and

examine what happened on that grassy mountain near the Sea of Galilee. But instead of reading about it in John 6, look at the same event recorded in Matthew 14:19-21:

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And

they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

Now, notice what happened: The disciples told Jesus, “There’s a boy here with some bread and a couple fish.” Jesus asked for the food, and they got it for Him. He took it, looked toward heaven, gave thanks for it, blessed it, broke it and distributed it among His disciples. They, in turn, took the food and distributed it among the people...and they distributed it...and distributed it—to approximately

I don’t know if it’s this year. I don’t know if it’s next year. I don’t know if it’s next week. But I do know He’s coming and it’s a whole lot sooner than most of us think. “Well, Brother Copeland, how can you be so sure?” Read the Word. Then just take a good look around you. It doesn’t matter where on this planet you live—there is more glory, more outpouring, more preaching, more Word, more believers, and even more hell on this earth than there has ever been before. It ’s nothing like mankind has ever seen. Time as we have known it is over. These are different times we’re living in now. And what I’m about to tell you is almost unthinkable, not from a bad standpoint, but from a good one. You and I have entered into a space of time, a little, narrow band of time, which, in the scheme of all mankind, is the biggest and perhaps the most important block of time since the creation of Adam. We have stepped over—in the spirit realm and the natural realm—into exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). How do I know? Let me answer that by taking you back to where all this began.

Time Culminated in Jesus | To better understand this narrow band of time in which we now live, let’s look at John 6:5-13:

When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and

20,000 people. Then, they went back and picked up all the leftovers—12 baskets full! What I want you to see is that this whole process of Jesus taking the loaves and fish into His hands, blessing them, breaking them and distributing them, is the whole sowing and reaping process condensed into a matter of moments. That lad sowed his five barley loaves and two small fish into the ministry of Jesus. Jesus received the boy’s seed, planting it in fertile soil. He watered it, then immediately there was a harvest. Not only was there enough to feed everyone until they were full, there was also plenty left over for the storehouse. Whose storehouse? That little boy’s storehouse! He was the one who planted, wasn’t he? So what happened? What are we seeing take place before our very eyes? The reaper caught up with the sower. “What?! How can that be, Brother Copeland?” Simple. Look at Amos 9:13: “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.” The Word prophesies that there is a time coming when seedtime and harvest time will run together. That young fellow sowed his bread and fish into Jesus’ ministry that morning, and went home later that afternoon with 12 baskets full—all because time culminated in Jesus. And that, my brother and sister, is the kind of time we’re living in today.

Christmas in September? | You and I are now living and operating in a whole new time frame. When we made Jesus the Lord of our lives, we got over into His time schedule and He got into ours. But what I really want you to grasp is that Jesus’ time frame and the world’s time frame do not function the same. Oh, we’re in the same space as the rest of the world, but we’re not functioning on the same schedule—and I’m talking literally. What do I mean? Well, among other sources, the study notes in Bullinger’s Companion Bible explain how the current gentile-ized

calendar you and I use is inaccurate and way off-schedule. These sources explain how dates such as Jesus’ birthday are incorrect, and have been for centuries. Now this may come as a shock to you, but Jesus was not born December 25. In fact, He wasn’t even born in December. Jesus’ birthday is actually sometime at the end of September. Of course I realize that might upset your Christmas this year, but I don’t think Jesus will mind it too much if you continue to celebrate His birthday three months late. But this does have very significant bearing in our immediate lives. Let me explain. From the very beginning, God has given us the time frame in which He will work with mankind. It is a seven-day time frame. We see in Genesis that God created the earth in six days, and rested on the seventh. Then He gave mankind dominion. He gave him a lease on the earth. How long was that lease? Second Peter 3:8 gives us a key. Speaking of the return of the Lord, Peter tells us, “Beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years.” In light of that, and a mountain of other biblical evidence, we know that mankind was given a 6,000-year lease on the earth. At the end of that time, God will take over and close out the Age with a 1,000-year (seventh-day) reign. Now we know that Jesus was born 4,000 years into that time frame—or on the fourth day. Even with the mess that the gentile calendar created, it is not very difficult to figure out the correct date of Jesus’ birthday, because we know the actual dates of other major events such as Herod’s birth and death. Besides that, the Hebrew people have been keeping their calendar for a long, long time. For all practical purposes, 2,000 years have come and gone since Jesus’ birth and ministry. Six thousand years since Adam was created. Where does that put us on our spiritual clock? We have entered that little sliver of time between Adam’s lease on earth—and consequently, Satan’s dominion in this earth due to Adam’s Fall—and the period of time we read about in Acts 2:19-20: “And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness,

outpouring when God can do whatever He wants to do, which includes angels becoming more involved in the natural realm. You and I are in a moment of grace which, for us, means we are reaping a harvest of 2,000-years worth of gospel seed. For 2,000 years seeds have been sown, and now the Body of Christ—you and I—is reaping that harvest. Think about it! In addition to that, time has culminated in Jesus. As believers living at the end of time, time for us has been compressed, compacted. Seedtime, growing time, harvest time—it has all been compressed into a sliver of time, just as it was for that lad with the five loaves and two small fish. We are living in the exceeding-abundantly-beyond-all-we-can-ask-or-think time. Hallelujah!

Great Responsibility | Now that we have some understanding of these days in which we live, it is vitally important for us to also understand how we are to respond to “such a time as this.” Doesn’t it sound to you like the

and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come.” You and I are being squeezed between 6,000 years of time behind us and another 1,000 years ahead of us. The 1,000 years facing us is the millennial reign of Jesus of Nazareth, which is the first time in human existence since the Fall of Adam that humanity will be totally and completely out of contact with Satan. I’m telling you, Jesus is coming. He’s about to rise off His heavenly throne and return to earth. He may not have stood up yet, but I guarantee you He is out on the edge of His seat! Although we are the ones who are wedged into this narrow band of time, really, it is God who’s being pressed and pushed. And by pushed I mean everything God promised would come to pass during the past 6,000 years must come to pass before the beginning of Jesus’ millennial reign. Everything He ever said is coming to pass—and only God could accomplish that. This sliver of time we’re living in is the moment just before the catching away of the Church, and the final

Body of Christ is about to have its hands full of harvest? Sure, God is pouring out His Spirit like never before. But with all that anointing He’s placed in and on us, He’s also given us great responsibility as the end-time Church. So, to catch hold of what God is telling His people today, let’s look at Psalm 2:2-4: “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh.” In Psalm 37:12-13, we read: “The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.” As this Age draws to a close, I’m hearing the Lord say, Hey! Give Me a couple of days here. There are a lot of things I’ve been wanting to do, but My hands have been tied. But now that they’re untied, let’s have some fun. Let’s have a good time—and win billions of souls before we go! What do you think all this laughing in the Spirit is about, anyway? Well, we just read it in the Psalms. Satan’s time is up, and God is laughing at him! God is having one BIG time of it. He is laughing at the devil all over the world. He’s laughing at him in churches. He’s laughing at him in meetings. He even has preachers going around preaching and teaching laughing. The bottom line is, you can go ahead and laugh at the devil, too. He’s through! He’s finished! In Hebrews 10:12-13, the Bible tells us that Jesus, “after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; from henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.” Notice that Jesus didn’t sit down to do nothing. No, He sat down expecting till His enemies be made His footstool. He sat down, or He entered into God’s rest. Would you please tell me, how in the world will Jesus defeat His enemies when He’s sitting down? It’s simple: He has already defeated the enemy. What’s more, He gave you and me authority over the enemy, with the command to go into all the world and preach the gospel and tread on His enemy. Ephesians 2:6 says God has “raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” And in Hebrews 3 and 4, we are commanded to enter

God’s rest. Paul says in Hebrews 4:1: “Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.” The Word is actually saying we ought to be afraid of getting out of God’s rest. Afraid of it? We haven’t even heard of it! Religious doctrine has told us to get agitated, sorry, bawl, squall or beat the altar with our fist. Yet all the while, God’s Word is commanding us to enter into His rest...and then stay there. Now I’ll be the first to admit that entering God’s rest has been the hardest thing for me to get ahold of since

I’ve been in the ministry, though I have done it more on a personal level. I have taken the Word, stood on it, believed God and entered into His rest when I’ve been faced with an attack of the devil, or the like. But I’m seeing that God intends for us to rest over the whole thing, over every situation—particularly with all that we have facing us in this sliver of time. When those hungry folks came up to Jesus, He didn’t fall on His face and start sobbing and kicking the dirt, saying, “Oh, God! Oh, God! I

just don’t know what I’m going to do. There’s 5,000 of them—and that’s just the men. We don’t have enough money. Besides, we’re out here in the middle of nowhere. And that idiot I’ve got for a treasurer....” No, Jesus just rested in God. He trusted and rested in His Father. Today, as men and women of faith, our goal is to walk in the promises of God with such faith that, no matter what challenge or need comes our way, we do just like Jesus did when that multitude came to Him: We just smile and say, “Bring the loaves and fish here to me.” Then we take our seed, look to God, give thanks for it, bless it, break it and expect the abundance. Then we just rest. We are living in the last little sliver of time, a time of great harvest, a time when we can laugh, and a time when we can rest. So go ahead, laugh. God is. Go ahead and rest, too. Jesus is. But do it expecting. Do it expecting, until your financial enemies, until your physical enemies, until your family’s enemies—or whatever enemies—be made your footstool. VICTORY

Deliverance Via the Internet I thank God for saving my life through Brother Copeland and the 2004 SWBC. I had fallen into depression—I was totally miserable, crying for no appar-ent reason and generally feeling like I was losing my mind. I even started to think dying would be better than living. I didn’t tell anyone the depth of this thing—I was so ashamed. My husband sensed it, but he had no idea how to help. When he saw how much good the meetings did me, he gave up his favorite TV programs so I could use the computer which is in the same room. From the first service, I knew Brother Copeland’s message was straight from God to me. I was set free that Monday night and have been praising God ever since! I am eternally grateful to KCM—thank you.D.D. | Georgia

Online Conventions Bless Believer in Iraq It is such a blessing to be able to watch the WCBC. Last year my wife and I attended the SWBC together—it was awe-some! We decided not to miss another one. This year I’m in Iraq and won’t be able to attend, but I will be able to watch it online while my wife attends. God is so awesome. I really appreciate all that your ministry does. I’m not able to attend church here and watching your broadcasts gives me a sense of home. Thank you very much. J.T. | Alabama

Depression Disappears at SWBC August 2001, I went to Gloria’s Healing School at the SWBC in Fort Worth. When I went forward, Jesse Duplantis laid hands on me and I fell to the floor. As I was leaving I heard Gloria say, “You don’t need the medicine for depression.” I had been on anti-depression medicine for many, many years and believed that I needed it. Shortly thereafter I asked my doctor to take me off all medication—I was surprised that she agreed. I got off all the meds and it now seems as if I never had it. Praise God. Jesus healed me of depression! S.H. | Texas

Blessing Overtakes Them A couple years ago at the WCBC we heard Jerry Savelle teach about writing down what we would need to get out of debt and have no lack. Thanks to previous teaching and following God’s promises, we were already debt free. But

our home, which our family had outgrown, was in constant need of repairs. So we wrote down the amount we would need to buy a new house. In the meantime, God had blessed us with an opportunity to care for an elderly neighbor

lady. She had no family and a few years later when she passed away, she left us her estate. Altogether, it was just short of the amount we had written down! Enclosed is the tithe on the sale of that house. God bless you for obeying Him and preaching the Word.B. and D.K. | California

Finding Freedom Behind Bars I was arrested in September 2003. I am 20 years old, doing time. When I realized I was going to be put behind bars for a while, I contemplated suicide. But then I read your books Honor and Now Are We in Christ Jesus and I have come to know God. Since then I’ve had peace, and even though I’m not scheduled for release until March 2009, I am content. With the help of the Lord and your God-inspired books, I don’t even think about giving up. Instead, I now look for ways to better myself and to live accord-ing to God’s will. In here it ’s not easy, but it ’s not impossible. Thank you for helping me find Jesus.A.S. | Michigan

Eyesight Restored at Healing School At the 2003 SWBC the Lord restored a

detached retina in my right eye and healed my eyesight. I had been diagnosed sev-eral months before and lived with symp-toms of blurred vision, tiredness in that eye and bright flashes in my peripheral vision. During Healing School while Gloria was teaching, my eye was healed and restored. When I finally had an appointment with a retina specialist, he was quite surprised. After examining my right eye twice, he said he could see where the damage had been, but it wasn’t there anymore. No treatment was necessary. Praise God!E.R. | Canada

Daughter Delivered From Drugs at GLBC Our daughter is on fire for Jesus.

She can’t put her Bible down. She is delivered from cocaine and alcohol. We took her to the Great Lakes Believers’ Convention and it

Inside Changes—Outside Results After a lifetime of struggling with my weight, in March 2003, I was finally willing to surrender it to God. He led me to start with exercise. So on March 17, 2003, at 334 pounds, size 28, I got up at 6 a.m. to start a 30-minute daily exercise program on TV. It was

difficult and exhausting but God helped me. Later He led me to your Web site where Marty’s teachings on weight loss and nutri-tion gave me hope, scriptures to stand on and filled me with faith. By January I had lost about 75 pounds. I asked the Lord to help me reach my goal of 180 pounds by my 30th birthday in July. I increased my exercise to an hour a day and

joined a support group with weekly weigh-ins for accountability. July 8, my birthday, I reached my goal of 180 pounds—a total weight loss of 154 pounds! Praise God. The teachings from Marty and KCM fed my spirit and began a change on the inside that is now evident on the outside. Now as I believe God for the grace to maintain my weight, I believe the outward change will last because it came from inside. I will truly walk in victory and freedom regarding weight, nutrition and fitness. Thank you for allowing God to use you. Michelle Halbrook | Missouri

Out of the Mouths of Babes…!

Hi! I am 11 years old and I live in Rock River, Wyo. I was

watching your message on Easter Sunday and when you did your

salvation prayer at the end, I prayed with you. It means very

much to me that you help other people who don’t believe that

Jesus is our Savior.

I love to hear you preach about our most gracious God!

I saw The Passion of the Christ. Now I understand what our Lord

did for us and I am ever so grateful! I recommend that everybody

should see the movie, because the Tribulation is coming, and I don’t

want to be left behind! Thank you again!

“The Lord (God) says to my Lord (the Messiah), Sit at My right hand, until I make

Your adversaries Your footstool. The Lord will send forth from Zion the scepter of

Your strength; rule, then, in the midst of Your foes. Your people will offer themselves

willingly in the day of Your power….” (Psalm 110:1-3, The Amplified Bible)

I believe the day of His power is at hand. And I believe 2005 may just be that day!

It’s time for the Church to walk in the same level of power or anointing that

Jesus walked in while He was in the earth. So what must we do in order for

God’s power, abilities and anointing to flow through us as never before?

The most important thing is this: We must walk in love.

I f we don’t walk in love, there’s no way we will walk in power. Why?

Because the love of God carries the power of God.

No love—no anointing or power. It ’s that simple.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Now, as Christians, we’re already equipped to walk in love and to also walk in the anointing, which is an outflow of power from the Holy Spirit. The day we became born again, the Holy Spirit showed up and poured the love of God into our hearts (Romans 5:5). At that point we were equipped to walk in love and in power. Ephesians 3:14, 16-20 explains:

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might

by his Spirit in the inner man; that [the Anointed One and His Anointing] may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of [the Anointed One and His Anointing], which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.

walk right into enemy territory—the curse. Even though as believers, Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law, the curse and all its effects are still in the earth. So if someone offends you and you refuse to forgive that person, then you’re choosing to step over into enemy territory. As a result, the power of God will be short- circuited in your life.

Light the Fuse | Love is the fuse to the whole gospel. Without it, there may be a form of godliness, but no power will be in operation. Results depend on whether or not we’re operating within the circle of love. Our abundance, our anointing, our victory is within that circle. Satan’s whole mission every day is to try and get you to go AWOL. Why? Because a soldier who is Absent Without Leave may be wearing a uniform, but his or her uniform no longer possesses the authority it once did. No longer is it anointed. So refuse to step into enemy territory. Stay in love—obey our Commander in Chief. When you do, you are in

the power of God and He has told the enemy, “Touch not [my] anointed” (1 Chronicles 16:22). Stay in love and you’ll be ready for God’s power to flow through you. You’ll be equipped and prepared not just to see your own needs met, but to help minister to others. We really haven’t seen His goodness until we see the goodness God is getting ready to pour on us in the day of His power! As that day approaches, we must take hold of this key revelation of love as never before. Begin today to love God with all your heart, soul and mind. And love your neighbor—no matter what they’ve done or how badly it hurts. Do whatever it takes to get back in the circle of love. Then get ready for abundance, power and the anointing that removes burdens and destroys yokes to overflow in your life. It’s the day of His power—stay in the circle of love! VICTORY

Anyone who flows in the anointing and demonstrates the power of the Spirit must be a person rooted and grounded in love. The Bible tells us when Jesus was moved with compassion (love), the anointing showed up in His life—people were healed, miracles occurred. The same is true for us. If we will walk in love, we can be powerful Christians!

Stay in the Circle of Love | When Jesus was asked, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?” He answered, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matthew 22:36-40). Think about what He said! Everything hangs on lov-ing the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and loving your neighbor as yourself. So if there are areas in your life where you can’t seem to get the victory, you might ask: Am I walking in love? Am I loving the Lord with all my heart, soul and mind? If you’re ignoring the command-ment of love, things simply won’t work right in your life even though you may be doing a lot of right things. But here’s the good news: You can take hold of love and see everything repaired in your life!

Don’t Open the Door | Jesus said, “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love” ( John 15:10). Here Jesus, our Commander in Chief, has given us a direct order to abide in His love. Why? Jesus knows as long as we stay in the circle of love we will be protected. First John 5:17-18 tells us the enemy can’t touch us: “All unrighteousness is sin. We know that whoso-ever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.” Stepping out of love means stepping into unrighteous-ness (sin), which opens the door to the enemy. When we are obeying the commandment of love, we will not only be protected, we will also be anointed. That means the enemy can’t touch us and the power of God will be at work in our lives. We’ll be prospering the way we should in every area. However, if we step outside that circle, we become subject to everything outside of love. In other words, we

p o w e r

Jesus said, “It ’s the Father within Me who does the work.” So what does that mean to you? It means that Jesus meant exactly what He said when He declared that you, as a believer, would be able to do the works that He did! John 14:12-15 says:

I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father. And I will do [I Myself will grant] whatever you ask in My Name [as presenting all that I Am], so that the Father may be glorified and extolled in (through) the Son. [Yes] I will grant [I Myself will do for you] whatever you shall ask in My Name [as presenting all that I Am]. If you [really] love Me, you will keep (obey) My commands (The Amplif ied Bible).

It means that you, as a reborn child of God, filled with the same Holy Spirit as Jesus was, have the opportunity to live as He lived when He was on earth. Not only that, Jesus said you “will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father.” In fact, that is exactly what He intends. He went before you, as a man, and opened the way. Don’t just admire Him for it. Follow Him in it today! VICTORY

Anyone who doubts what those verses say could not possibly have been born into the kingdom of God. For the deity of Jesus forms the very foundation of our faith in Him. Yet, if you’ll search the Gospels, you’ll see that Jesus didn’t go around proclaim-ing Himself as God during His 33 years on earth. He acknowledged that He was the Son of God, the Messiah. He referred to God as His Father (which enraged the Pharisees), but He never made the assertion that He was the Most High God. In fact, He told His disciples that the Father God was greater and mightier than He ( John 14:28). The reason is simple. He hadn’t come to earth just as God. He’d come also as man. The Word says He set aside His divine power and took the form of a human being—with all its limitations. Since God was His Father, He was not born with the sin nature that had been passed along to the sons of Adam. But by being born of a woman, in all other respects He became a man and called Himself the Son of Man or, literally, the Son of Adam. How, then, did He do all those mighty works? The same way He expects us to do them today—by the anointing and the power of the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:38 tells us “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

The deity of the Lord Jesus Christ is something that can never be brought into question by any

born-again believer. Our very salvation rests on the fact that Jesus Christ is divine, the second

person of the Godhead, God—the Son. | The beloved disciple and apostle, John, forever puts

to rest any doubt about that in John 1:1, 14 where he says: “In the beginning [before all time] was

the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. And the Word

(Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us”

(The Amplified Bible).

Absolute Truth for Christmas

window casting rainbows off crystals that glistened in the sun. The scent of incense clung to the

native drums, dream catchers, tarot cards and thick books that stood face out on the shelves.

There were hundreds of books on every subject for those in search of answers: Buddhism,

Hinduism, the occult, witchcraft, astrology and numerology. | Angelika van Battum smiled to

herself as she dusted shelves and prepared to open for business. She couldn’t remember ever

being so happy. Finally, she thought, I’m going to find an answer. There must be an absolute truth.

I have access to all these books, and I’m going to find it! | Her search for an absolute truth

flew in the face of everything she’d been taught. Her father, a German who’d witnessed Hitler’s

reign of terror, had wept bitterly over the slaughter of Jews. As far as he was concerned, there

was no absolute truth save one: “After death there is nothing but worms!” he insisted. “If God

existed, He would never have allowed the Jews to be massacred.”

TRUTH

J A N U A R Y ’ 0 5 | B V O V | 17

Raised as an atheist, Angelika had always been afraid of death. As a child she’d cried herself to sleep many nights thinking about the only thing she could look forward to…worms. As an adult, she’d gone to work for a theatrical company that performed murder mysteries in a dinner theater. Dirk van Battum wrote and produced them. Dirk had been born in The Netherlands and, like hers, his family had migrated to Canada. His mother had sent him to church occasionally and had given him a Bible which gathered dust. In his own search for truth, he’d studied eastern reli-gions, such as Bahá’í, which celebrate unity and oneness. Two years after they met, Dirk and Angelika started

their own production company, Black Hat Entertainment. Eventually they sacrificed everything to move the business to Phoenix, Ariz. Their timing couldn’t have been worse. The Gulf War broke out in 1991 and most Americans weren’t interested in seeing murder mysteries for enter-tainment. So in 1992, Dirk and Angelika loaded their infant son, Lorne, along with all their earthly possessions, and returned to Canada. Striking out across country, they stumbled onto Naramata, a tiny village in British Columbia. Their own personal nirvana, Naramata was surrounded by orchards, vineyards and an abundance of flowering plants and shrubs. Dirk and Angelika decided to stay and put down roots. That’s when they had the inspiration to open their own bookstore. They named their new venture Aradia Bookstore in honor of the daughter of the moon goddess Diana. In the backroom, Dirk made extra money by read-ing tarot cards. Angelika sighed with contentment when it was time to open for business. But her good mood took a nose dive when she stooped to pick up the “Jesus Loves You!” tract someone had slipped under the door.

Give me a break! Someone shoved this kind of trash under their door regularly. She and Dirk were in pursuit of truth—not fantasy. Ripping the tract into pieces, she greeted her first customer of the day.

The Search for Truth | “With each venture into a religious belief,” Angelika recalls, “we were soon disappointed. After studying Hinduism, neither of us believed it was true. After studying Buddhism, neither of us believed it was true. The pattern repeated itself until we’d exhausted most of the material in the bookstore. I began to wonder if maybe there was no absolute truth. “We never considered selling occult materials to be evil,” Angelika explains. “We were a loving family. We never used drugs or alcohol. We considered ourselves to be very spiritual and cool. However, there weren’t enough people in the area interested in witchcraft and the occult to keep our business alive. After three years, we closed our doors for the last time. “There weren’t many ways to make a living in our area if you didn’t work in an orchard or vineyard. A friend of mine suggested going to school to become a hairdresser, which both Dirk and I did. We found a lovely home with a separate entrance—perfect for a salon.” With the enthusiasm of youth, Dirk and Angelika opened their third business. Life was good. The couple enjoyed working together out of their home, and they liked being there when Lorne came home from school. Mornings were their busiest time. But oddly, one weekday in September 1999, Angelika had a break midmorning.

After studying Hinduism and

Buddhism, neither of us believed

it was true. I began to wonder if

maybe there was no absolute truth.

Walking through the house, she did something she’d never done on any other workday morning. She turned on the television and heard a man talking about spiritual things. Something he said made her pause before changing the channel. Angelika continued to listen. Aside from what he says about Jesus and the Bible, she thought, this guy is very spiritual. Kenneth Copeland…I’ve never heard of him. The next day at exactly the same time, both Angelika and Dirk’s clients canceled. “Dirk, come listen to this man on television,” Angelika urged. They settled in front of the tele-vision and watched the Believer’s Voice of Victory broadcast. “Wow,” Dirk said, “that beats all I’ve ever heard.”

In the Twinkling of an Eye | The van Battums began taping the broadcast daily. After weeks of listening to Kenneth Copeland preach, Angelika had an epiphany. Jesus is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH that I’ve searched for all my life! Angelika turned to Dirk at the end of the broadcast and said, “Do you want to pray the prayer?” Dirk nodded his agreement. “Let’s go for the whole thing!” Together they bowed their heads and prayed the prayer of salvation. At that moment, the greatest miracle in the universe occurred. It was a miracle greater than divine heal-ing—a miracle greater than raising the dead. In the twinkling of an eye, Dirk and Angelika van Battum were changed. In one fell swoop of divine grace, they were adopted by the King of kings. They became joint heirs with Christ with full rights in the kingdom of God. They became new creatures. God bestowed upon them all the rights and privileges Jesus won at Calvary. They were granted the same resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead.

Cleaning House | “A few weeks later, Dirk and I decided to become Partners with KCM,” Angelika recalls. “The ministry sent us a New Partner Package which included a book of Partner Letters. In the back was another prayer for salvation. The one in the book was longer and more involved than the one we’d prayed.” Angelika called Dirk and Lorne into the room. Flipping the Partner book open to the prayer of salvation she said, “I’m going to read this prayer out loud, and I want the two of you to repeat it after me.” Dirk and Lorne dutifully prayed the prayer. Afterward

Angelika sighed with relief. “Now I think we’ve got it right.” Soon after, Dirk and Angelika looked around their home with new eyes. Convicted by the Holy Spirit, they realized it was filled with tarot cards, books on witchcraft and symbols of the occult—all worth hundreds of dollars. “We’ve got to get rid of this stuff,” Dirk said. “I know, but we can’t give it away or sell it. It’s got to be destroyed!” “You’re right,” Dirk agreed. They discussed the situation with Lorne and the three of them started cleaning house. Nine-year-old Lorne allowed his faith to get violent, mak-ing declarations to the spirits behind the artifacts. “Get out of here!” he shouted, tossing tarot cards into the boxes to be destroyed. “I don’t want you around me!” With the house cleared of the counterfeit, the van Battums realized that except for the tapes of Kenneth Copeland’s broadcast, they had nothing that reflected God. “We need to read the Bible,” Dirk said. “Wait! I’ve got one somewhere!” Dirk dusted off the Bible his mother had given him as a child and the family gathered around to read it. Stum-bling over the “thees” and “thous” they finally admitted defeat and gave up. But they never gave up watching the daily broadcast.

A Sign | In November 1999, Dirk made a decision. “I think we should find ourselves a church.” “I think that’s going a little too far,” Angelika said. “Kenneth Copeland said we need a church family,” Dirk answered pointedly. That settled the matter. “I wonder how we’re supposed to find one?” Picking up the newspaper Dirk turned to the religious section and found a list of churches. A few minutes later he read the last church listed and said, “Here it is! Victory Church of Penticton.” Penticton was the town nearest their village. “How do you know that’s the one?” Angelika asked. “Think about it,” Dirk said. “What broadcast do we watch every day? The Believer’s Voice of VICTORY! What magazine do we read every month? The Believer’s Voice of VICTORY! The name of this church is Victory! It’s got to be the one God wants us to join!” The following Sunday morning, Dirk, Angelika and Lorne joined the Victory Church of Penticton which had

Convicted by the Holy Spirit, they realized their home was

filled with tarot cards, books on witchcraft and symbols of

the occult. “We’ve got to get rid of this stuff,” Dirk said.

Dirk and Angelika gasped. “You?” The man laughed and said, “That’s not all. My wife and I used to do prayer walks around your block praying for your salvation.” Angelika’s eyes brimmed with tears as she remembered the coincidence of a morning with no business, of how she happened to turn on the television, and how she’d been strangely drawn to listen to Kenneth Copeland, how they’d taped the broadcast and eventually prayed the prayers of faith, how the Lord had directed them to clean out every-thing to do with witchcraft in their home—and led them to this very church. “God is so good,” she whispered, choking back her tears. “Thank you for your prayers.”

Today, the man and wife who put gospel tracts under the door of their bookstore and prayed faithfully for their salvation, are the van Battum’s c lose f riends. Dirk and Angelika only recently discovered that they, too, are Partners with KCM. And because they are connected in Christ, their f riendship will last through- out eternity. These days Angelika van Battum has plenty to look forward to after death. She will meet Jesus face to face. She will worship before the throne of God. She will swim in the River of Life. She will walk out her eter-nal destiny with the apostles: Paul, Peter, James and John. She will meet Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. She will talk to Moses and Elijah. She will cast her crown at Jesus’ feet. Dirk, Angelika and Lorne van Battum will be eternally grateful for the prayers of those who cried out for their salvation. They will be eternally grate- ful to Kenneth and Gloria Copeland and all the Partners who made the Believer’s Voice of Victory broadcast a reality in Canada. But most of all Dirk and Angelika will be eternally grateful for the great-est gift ever given to the world. Jesus. May each of you have…Absolute Truth for Christmas. VICTORY

only just opened the week before. With Christmas only a month away, they bought one another their heart’s desire—new Bibles in simple English.

The Christmas Gift | The lights on the Christmas tree glittered in the window each evening and brightly wrapped packages lay under its branches. Dirk and Angelika circled the tree like children too excited to sleep. Not since her first doll had Angelika wanted anything as badly as she wanted the gift under that tree. She counted the days until Christmas and dreamed of actually owning her own Bible. The idea left her breathless. The night before Christmas Angelika snuggled into bed and remembered how she’d cried herself to sleep as a child. She shivered with delight, Tomorrow I’m getting the absolute truth for Christmas! The next morning with wrapping paper strewn across the room, Dirk and Angelika opened their Bibles as though they were crown jewels. In truth, they were much more valuable than mere jewels. Settling down on the sofa they began to read. “Listen to this!” Angelika said as she read a passage from the Bible. “Where did you find that?” Dirk asked with excitement. They read their Bibles for hours that day and well into the night and every free moment for days and weeks to come.

Forever Friends | A few months later the family was at church when a man introduced himself. “You’re new here aren’t you?” he asked. “We’ve only been members of the church for a few months,” Dirk answered, “but we’ve lived in Naramata for sev- eral years.” “Really? What do you do there?” “We own a hair salon,” Dirk ex- plained. “But before that we owned a bookstore….” The man’s eyes lit up and he inter-rupted. “I know! You owned the Aradia Bookstore!” “How did you know?” Dirk asked. “I used to slip gospel tracts under your door!”

Morality&Religion in Government

How important was religion to the Founding Fathers of the United States of America? There

are literally hundreds of founders’ quotes documenting their beliefs that religion and moral-

ity in government were of primary importance. As you read these selections by several of the

men who helped frame our Constitution and Declaration of Independence, you’ll see it was

foremost in their thinking. | Should it be any less so in our own hearts and minds?

Ib y M a r t y C o p e l a n d

t’s a new year full of possibilities! It’s a time

when approximately 100 million Americans will zealously usher in the new year with several

resolutions in hand. Are you one of them? If so, at least one of your resolutions will more than

likely be health related. According to a 1997 study conducted by the University of Washington:

“Increasing the amount of exercise was the most common primary resolution, being made by 37

percent of subjects. It was followed by increasing the time devoted to study or work, 23 percent;

increasing the consumption of healthy food or decreasing the amount of unhealthy food, 13

percent; reducing the use of tobacco, alcohol, caffeine or other drugs used, 7 percent.” With 60

percent of Americans dying from illnesses connected to overeating, lack of exercise and smok-

ing, it’s no wonder health-related resolutions are the most common! However, it’s one thing to

make a resolution, it’s entirely another to see that

resolution become a reality. Studies indi-

cate that those who successfully achieve

any resolution or goal do the following

three things:

1. make a firm initial commitment,

2. have a realistic strategy to accom-plish it, and

3. keep track of their progress, celebrat-ing the victories along the way.

Let’s take a look at each one of these steps and discuss how to implement them

where health and fitness goals are concerned.

RealitiesResolutions to

From

be something like, “I plan to walk four times a week for 30 minutes” or “I plan to walk Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and work out at the gym Tuesday and Thursday.” I would encourage you to consider adding some sort of resistance training to your fitness routine. Develop-ing muscle is a must for many reasons. For instance, one pound of muscle burns about 35 calories a day, whereas one pound of fat burns only 2 calories. Studies tell us between the ages of 20 and 30, without weight-resistant exercise, we begin to lose muscle. As we lose muscle, our basal metabolic rate slows down, which means we burn fewer calories. This change in metabo-lism generally means a gain in fat. Let’s say that between the ages of 30 and 40, we have lost 10 pounds of muscle and gained about 10 pounds of fat. That means that in 10 years, we would have a 20-pound body composition change and still weigh the same. By increasing your muscle, or lean body mass, by 5 pounds of muscle, your calorie expenditure would increase by 175 calories a day. That’s 63,875 calories or 18 pounds a year!

No wonder as we age it is so easy to gain fat simply by not exercising. Many people are frustrated by the fact that they eat just as they always have, but now are gain-ing weight, not realizing that each year without resistance exercise, their metabolisms are slowing down. Exercise is the only way to reverse this effect of aging. So add resistance training as part of your strategy. If your exercise strategy is specific, you’ll be more likely to stick to it. It will help you stay on course, moving toward your goal.

Developing a Diet Strategy | The same principle is true in making adjustments in your diet. If you are striv-ing to eat healthier or lose weight, simply saying “I’m not going to eat so much junk food” will not ensure you’ll make healthy food choices. Your strategy must be specific in order to achieve lasting success. Keep in mind that “calories in” minus “calories out” will

Making a Firm Commitment | In making a firm, initial commitment, you must seriously consider what you want to accomplish. If you want to succeed in attaining your goal, take the time to think it through and pray about it. Don’t roll out of bed January 1 and decide (again) to lose 50 pounds in two months. That’s simply not realistic. The rate at which a person loses weight depends on a number of factors: diet, exercise, weight, age, etc. Losing weight slowly but steadily is healthier and can result in lifestyle changes enabling you to keep the weight off. A realistic weight-loss goal per week is about two pounds. Before beginning any weight-loss or fitness program, get clearance from your doctor and get his or her advice about the best way to achieve your goal. Then be sure to write down your resolution with a des-ignated start date. Why? By writing it down, your resolu-tion becomes a solid goal you’re moving toward rather than something you’re contemplating. As a Christian, keep in mind, too, you have an advan-tage in attaining your goal—you have God and His Word to help you succeed! So along with writing down your resolution, find and write down scrip-tures to support your goal. This will help you stay focused and in faith. Habakkuk 2:2 instructs us to: “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” Now once you’ve written down your start date, goal and scriptures, and you’ve prayed over it—you have made a firm, initial commitment!

Developing an Exercise Strategy | Next, prayerfully consider a strategy to achieve your goal. It needs to be a plan you can and will implement, but also one that is going to challenge you. This strategy will be a road map; it will enable you to “run with the vision” and attain your goal. So write it down as well. Your strategy needs to be specific. For instance, if weight loss or higher fitness is your goal, your strategy should probably include changes to your diet as well as an exercise plan. Depending on your fitness goals, you may need to get additional information about what type of exercise will work best for you. (Check out my Higher Fitness Web site at www.martycopeland.com.) A generic exercise strategy such as “I plan to exercise” won’t be of much use. It needs to be specific, taking into account your present fitness level and your goal. It could

you may want to begin by toasting a slice and spreading it with peanut butter. Having baked, broiled or grilled fish several times a week is a terrific healthy-eating strategy. Salmon and some other cold-water fish contain Essential Fatty Acids, which are not produced by the body but are needed to help pre-vent disease. Now, in order not to sabotage your goals, plan ahead! Reserve a healthy snack for your ride home from work or school—a piece of fruit, string cheese or half a turkey sandwich and a bottle of water. Stabilizing your blood sugar level in the afternoon will help you avoid excessive eating in the evening. This seems to be a time when people munch uncontrollably, consuming too many calories and unhealthy snacks. If you’ll begin doing the “do’s,” the “don’ts” will eventually disappear. And remember, you have the Holy Spirit and the fruit of the spirit (which includes self-control) dwelling within you to help you.

So add these diet strategies to your plan—write them down and commit to them.

Tracking Your Progress | Lastly, you need to track your progress. If weight loss is your goal, this could be as simple as weighing yourself weekly or monthly. Since you may lose inches before you lose pounds, it’s a good idea to record your measurements when you begin and then measure yourself monthly. Simply being aware of how your clothes fit is also a good way to gauge your progress. Remember weight loss is not the only goal here—you should be noticing improvements in your health, your strength, your mental capacity and the quality of your life. It is God’s will for you to be healthy and strong. I pray this year will be a great year for you! I encour-age you to review your goals and strategies daily so you will stay focused and in faith. “Commit to the Lord what-ever you do, and your plans will succeed” (Proverbs 16:3, New International Version). Your resolutions are sure to become realities! VICTORY

equal either weight loss or weight gain. But don’t starve your-self! You must consume enough calories so your metabolism will work properly. There’s a daily calorie calculator avail-able on my Web site (www.martycopeland.com) that will calculate how many calories you should consume based on your height, weight, age and activity level. While we each have a unique body type and metabolism, for most people a great place to start is by subtracting 250 calories from their daily intake and burning an extra 250-500 calories per day through exercise. The best diet strategy for you depends on many factors such as: your present weight, how much weight you need to lose, your activity level, the condition of your health, etc. Your doctor can help you decide on a plan that will work best. I’m sure you’re aware of the foods you “don’t” want to make a habit of eating: cookies, candy, ice cream, fried foods and sugared drinks such as colas, just to name a few. So I’m going to share with you specif ic “do’s” that can add up to big benefits. These are great, realistic nutrition strat-egies that are recommended for every-one, especially if your goal is weight loss and/or achieving a healthier lifestyle! One of the most important changes you can make to your diet is to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day—more when exercising. Water helps cleanse your body and is necessary for fat loss. It’s even a mood-booster. Fruits and vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet. But are you eating enough? Studies show we need 3-5 serv-ings of vegetables a day, and 2-4 pieces of fresh fruit daily. One vegetable serving is 1/2 cup chopped raw or cooked vegetables, or one cup of raw leafy vegetables. A salad is one of the easiest ways to get a cup of raw vegetables but go easy on the dressing to avoid consuming too many calories. And of course, there are many wonderful fruits to choose from. So give your taste buds a little variety! Adding a high-fiber cereal to your diet is also a great diet strategy. It will help you digest about 130 fewer calo-ries per day. (One-half cup of All Bran cereal has 10 grams of fiber.) If you don’t like the high-fiber cereals, then add a little of a high-fiber variety to your regular cereal. Top it off with berries and you’ve just had a portion of your fruit for the day! Whole-grain breads are very important to your diet as well. Health-food stores have the best selection but there are some decent brands at the supermarket. Whole-grain breads are much more nutritious and satisfying than enriched wheat or white. If you’ve never eaten denser bread before,

The Amplified Bible)

The Bible is called the Word of Life. There’s not another book

like it in the world that can teach us how to live out the full

number of our days in the blessing of God. By taking hold of

His instructions we can experience longevity, which means “of

great age, long life, great span of life, length of days.” And not

only that, the Bible also teaches us how to live a good life—to

have a life worth living!

“Hb y G l o r i a C o p e l a n d

and sanctification, and redemption.” And not only that, we can be filled with the Holy Spirit, who is called the Spirit of life. He brings life to us and He is also our teacher. He quickens us according to the Word. He will open our eyes to the promises of life, healing and health in Scripture. God’s Word is life to us when we put it in our eyes and ears and it comes out our mouth. People who don’t know God are not living right because they don’t have right on the inside of them. They don’t have the wisdom of God working in their lives or the Holy Spirit bringing life to them. Believers have great advantages the universities don’t know much about! Everything God tells us to do is life giving! The Bible is filled with the wisdom we need to live long, healthy, productive lives. It also warns us of things that can cut our lives short. Many causes of sickness and early death are self-induced and often related to disobedience to God’s Word. There are steps we need to take both in the natural and spiritual realms in order to live longer and stronger.

One of the best sources of wisdom for a long life is the book of Proverbs. In fact, I like to call it a “longevity book.” It gives us specific instructions about what to do and not to do if we want to live long and strong. It teaches us that keeping God’s Word will add to us “length of days and years of a life [worth living] and tranquility [inward and outward and continuing through old age till death]” (Proverbs 3: 2, The Amplif ied Bible). Verse 3 then tells us that walking in love will help us live long. It says: “Let not mercy and kindness [shutting out all hatred and selfishness] forsake you.” In other words, walk in love—it’s a commandment with a lot of perks! For one thing, it will help us stay out of strife. That’s important because strife opens the door to sickness, disease and every evil

work ( James 3:16). Proverbs 3:5-8 advises us to:

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; reverently fear and worship the Lord and turn [entirely] away from evil. It shall be health to your nerves and sinews, and marrow and moistening to your bones (The Amplif ied Bible).

Whether we live long and strong, or short and weak, is up to us. It depends on what we do with the Word God speaks to us. It also depends on what we do in our natural lives. No one can expect to live out the full number of his or her days as a glutton, a drunk or by eating only junk food. Research and studies about longevity have proven that to be true. Not surprisingly, God already knew that and His Word addresses those issues (and others) so we can live long, produc- tive lives!

Who Lives Long? | Keith Moore, pastor of Faith Life Church in Branson, Mo., has studied the subject of longevity for years. In addition to studying what the Word says about it, he has collected published accounts of people who have lived long. He discovered that most people who live long lives have certain traits in common, such as serving God, walking in love and having a positive attitude. It seems lively, happy people live longer than those who have sour attitudes with no zest for life. A report on the Internet seems to confirm that. A study of centenarians (those who live to be 100 or older) from different backgrounds, education, economic status, etc., is being conducted by Boston University School of Medicine. It states that centenarians are the fastest growing segment of our population, with the 85+ group being second. More and more people are living longer. The “baby boomers” have become the “elder boomers.” The study also indicates that many centenarians remain mentally and physically active, continuing to read, exercise and participate in life. Many attend church. Few are obese. They also seem to have good attitudes and are able to handle stress better than most people. To sum it up, people who live long exhibit an attitude of life.

Eating From the Tree of Life | Even though many of these centenarians attend church, a majority probably don’t know that the Word of God is a source of life and health—more than likely, they’re just living in the “natural” for the most part. So just imagine what people living in the supernatural can do! When we are born again, we are given eternal life—the life of God. We have the Spirit of life and the Book that gives life. No longer are we just living a natural life. We have supernatural life. As born-again believers, we are born of the righteousness of God. We have right on the inside of us. First Corinthians 1:30 says Jesus “is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness,

but rather how you deal with them that makes the difference in the end. So be a fighter if you want to live a long life! The very meaning of the word life is “springing, activity, motion.” It has fire about it! Strong’s Concordance indicates life comes from a root word that means “alive, living thing, strong, life, living creature, quick, running, springing, troop.” Get a picture of that in your mind. See yourself full of life—quick and strong. You can run through a troop and leap over a wall (Psalm 18:29). Why? Because God is living in you! His life on the inside of you will motivate you and give you strength. When you’re full of the life of God, you’ll never find a sad, depressed person looking back at you in the mirror. Instead, you’ll see a happy, joyful countenance! Don’t allow Satan to steal your joy and your long, strong life. Reaching out to others will bring joy to your life and put depression on the run. Proverbs 3:3 in The Amplif ied Bible says to write mercy and kindness “upon the tablet of your heart.” If you want to live a productive, happy life, get busy loving others, and get your mind off yourself. Psalm 118:15 says, “The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous.” There shouldn’t be any moaning and groaning, sadness or depression in the house of the righteous. A believer’s life should be one of rejoicing and salvation. Health and healing and long life belong to us. If the doctor has given you a bad report, don’t receive it as the final authority and don’t allow depression to move in. Guard your heart! Believe the Bible and say, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord” (verse 17). That’s the will of God for your life. I like what a Jewish commentary to the Psalms* says about this verse: “The wicked are considered dead even while they are alive, because their souls are cut off from God, the source of all life. David says, ‘I shall be counted among the righteous who are considered alive even after death. Certainly, I will not be considered dead even while I live!’” Remember, as a believer, God is living on the inside of you! And His Word gives you life. So start believing, receiving and acting on what it says about long life now. Don’t wait until you’re elderly or faced with an illness. In faith, begin believing and saying what the Bible says about your outcome.

Set Your Sights Right | According to Genesis 6:3 you could expect to live 120 years! That’s the last time Scripture addresses the life span for man in general. And God hasn’t changed His mind. According to the Boston University study I mentioned earlier, life span means “the maximum number of years it is possible to live, defined by the longest-living individual.” Now although there have been reports of others living even longer, the longest documented life in recent years was that

In a nutshell, doing what God says is how to live long and strong in the earth. We must turn entirely away from evil. It’s the only way we can be free, stay well and live long on the earth. When God instructs us to let go of something, we need to do it. Walking in His wisdom leads to a happy, productive life. Verses 13-19 reveal that:

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

Notice this scripture calls wisdom a “tree of life.” Bullinger’s Companion Bible defines it as “the tree which preserved life.” God’s Word is His wisdom. Walking in His wisdom allows us to live as if we were in the Garden of Eden before sin entered into the world. Think about it. The earth was founded upon wisdom (verse 19). So when you walk in the wisdom of God, the earth responds to that—everything will respond to the wisdom of God. The more you know about the tree of life (wisdom) and the more you eat of it, the stronger you become and the longer and better you will live. Verse 18 in The Amplif ied Bible says: “She is a tree of life to those who lay hold on her; and happy (blessed, fortunate, to be envied) is everyone who holds her fast.” If you desire to be happy and blessed, you do it by holding fast to the tree of life. Holding fast means doing what is written in the Book. That is how you partake of the tree of life. Having the Bible on a bookshelf doesn’t qualify you. You must eat of that tree of life over and over just like you have to eat natural food. It’s well worth the effort! Being faithful to walk in the truths of God’s Word—to do the Word—will bring days of heaven on earth into your life. As Proverbs 4:20-22 says: “My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh” (The Amplif ied Bible). God’s Word is the tree that gives life.

Take Home the Prize | Those who succumb to the problems of this world don’t enjoy long life. It’s not your circumstances,

of Madame Jeanne Calment of France. She lived from 1875-1997. That’s 122 years! Now if she was able to live that long, as believers we certainly should be able to do the same. Especially since the Word says a man’s life span should be 120 years. Now I would like to explain Psalm 90:10 because it has been misunderstood by some. This scripture says “The days of our years are threescore years and ten (seventy years)—or even, if by reason of strength, fourscore years (eighty years)” (The Amplif ied Bible). What people often don’t realize is that this scripture is talking specifically about the Israelites in the wilderness who were living under the curse because of disobedience. It doesn’t apply to anyone else. So it shouldn’t be our expectation. That’s important to know because our attitudes, beliefs and ignorance of the Word can affect our life span. I know of a family with a history of longevity where this is clearly illustrated. One sister is 100 years old. The second sister is 96, still lives alone, drives a car and has a 70-year-old boyfriend. She has a relationship with Jesus and casts her cares on the Lord. It’s obvious she has a great attitude of life. The third sister, however, had heard the traditional slant on Psalm 90:10 and held on to the idea that she should live to be only 70 or 80 years old. When she got sick in her latter years she remarked, “Well, I got my 70 years.” Soon after, she went home to be with the Lord. Her belief affected her life span. The same was true for Ken’s mother. She believed God to live to be 70 years old. On her 70th birthday, she called Ken on the phone and exclaimed, “I made it!” She only lived a few more years. How long we live depends on how we live and where we set our goal. To have a life worth living, we must set our goal according to what the Word says about our lives, not according to tradition. I think of how Ken has to set the sights on his rifle just right if he wants to shoot accurately and hit the target. In the same way, we must set our sights right—in line with the Word—and aim to live long and live strong. So exhibit an attitude of life! Take hold of life and enjoy it! You can enjoy strength of days and length of days. VICTORY

*Rabbis Scherman, Nosson and Zlotowitz, Meir Tehillim/Psalms: A New Translation with a commentary anthologized from Talmudic, Midrashic, and Rabbinic Sources, Two Volume Edition (Brooklyn: Mesorah Publications, Ltd., 2002).

Whether you live long and strong or short and weak is up to you. So decide to take hold of life! Begin meditating on God’s Word and daily confessing:

I take hold of the Word of God—the Word of life. Circumstances are temporal and subject to change (2 Corinthians 4:18). But the Word is the eternal truth (John 17:17).

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life shall be many.

Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; guard her, for she is your life (Proverbs 4:10, 13, The Amplified Bible).

God said I have a choice. I choose life and blessing!

I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live (Deuteronomy 30:19).

I choose to follow God and His Word, His life-giving wisdom.

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. Length of days is in her right hand. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her (Proverbs 3:13, 16, 18).

Holy Spirit, open my eyes to God’s promises of life, healing and health. I choose to walk in love, forgiveness and obedience to God’s Word so I can live long and strong. Show me what to do, both in the natural and spiritual realms.

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh (Proverbs 4:20-22).

Keeping God’s Word gives me a long life worth living.

My son, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of a life [worth living], these shall they add to you (Proverbs 3:1-2, The Amplified Bible).

I guard my heart and believe what the Bible says about me.

Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life (Proverbs 4:23, The Amplified Bible).

He satisfies me with long life and shows me His salvation (Psalm 91:16).

God has offered me 120 years, and I receive it. I’m taking hold of life! (Genesis 6:3).
