Hello Royal Families, Welcome to second semester of the 2019-20 school year! Before we know it, our days will be a little warmer and a little longer as we welcome the arrival of spring. Spring will bring with it the excitement of graduation for our seniors on June 13th! For everyone else, in addition to having a great 2nd semester, we will be looking toward our plans for the 2020-21 school year. This process begins with our students registering for next year’s courses in early March. Leading up to this, they will have an opportunity to learn about electives, challenging course options, graduation pathways, college and career options, and much more as they build their course plan for next year. My challenge to every student is to take at least one course that they think will push and test their abilities. For some, it may be taking one of our many advance placement options. For others, that may mean signing up for an art class or weight training. Whatever it means for your student, I believe that they can be successful in their “challenge course” and the experience will serve to develop skills and growth that will help to prepare them for life. Please feel free to reach out to me or your student’s counselor if you would like to talk more about how we can partner on creating the right plan with the right support for your child. It is an honor to work with you as we help to guide them on the path for their futures. Go, Royals!

YEARBOOK
Amy Frost appointed chair of PESB Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Lynnwood High School teacher Amy Frost as Chair of the Professional Educator Standards Board. Amy, who was appointed to the Board in March 2017, has previously served as Vice Chair. “I am incredibly honored to be appointed as Chair of the Professional Educator Standards Board,” said Amy. “The legislative and executive branches of govern-ment in Washington State have entrusted practicing educators with important decisions regarding the educator workforce, which is an honor and responsibil-ity that I am proud to continue.” In a letter to Amy, Gov. Inslee said, “with your expertise and enthusiasm, I am confident you will be successful in this position.” “The public sets high professional and ethical standards for those in public of-
fice, and if we want to maintain their trust and support, we must always meet or exceed those stand-ards. That means we serve to the highest of ethical principles, place the public's interest above any personal or private interest, and always ensure state resources are efficiently used for public purposes only.” said Gov. Inslee. Created in 2000, the Professional Educator Standards Board ensures that Washington ’s educator work-force is composed of highly effective, professional educators who meet the diverse needs of schools and districts. The Board works towards this vision by creating innovative policies that improve and support educator quality, workforce development, and diversity.

If you have not already done so, submit

universities. Congratulations! More ac-

FAFSA forms). REMEMBER: Applying for

by completing the official FAFSA (Free

more details, visit www.fafsa.ed.gov.
NO “SLACKERS” ALLOWED:
Even if your senior has already been accepted
to a college or university, this last semester of
high school is NOT the time to “take it easy” and
let grades slip. We will mail out 8th semester
transcripts after graduation to all universities. It is
not unheard of for an acceptance to be re-
scinded due to poor performance during the
last year. Please encourage your senior to con-
tinue to do his/her best!
