Highest standardsWe use high quality raw materials, knot-free hardwood and leading production technology and equipment . We are environmentally conscious and contribute to sustainable forest management: in 2012, we were granted the international FSC© (C109278) and PEFC Chain of Custody certifications. In the same year, we also acquired the ISO 9001:2008 quality management certification.

Valuing and adding value to woodWe continuously contribute to valuing wood by adding new types of wood to our product range, thereby offering a better selection to our clients. Thermo-treated wood comprises a significant proportion of our production: we are the first and only company in Estonia with WTT thermo-treatment devices. We also offer material brushing and fine grooving. Our glue-laminated timber produc-tion unit enables us to use our raw material economically, whilst giving us the opportunity to produce more advanced products .

We offer finished products for sauna building, from ready-made mod-ules to benches, doors and sauna accessories . Our CNC wood processing equip-ment enables us to produce a wide variety and more advanced elements . In addition to standard measurements and products, we provide custom-made orders. Diverse client base and international experienceWe have provided sauna solutions for satisfied clients from a variety of business cultures: from the home of sauna in Finland to the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Thailand . We export our products to more than 34 countries . Our products can be found in private homes as well as in hotels and spas .

THERMO-TREATMENTHeating wood to protect it from rot is a method that has been practiced for thousands of years . Industrial thermo-treatment became possible only a few decades ago .

Unlike other widespread technologies, Ha Serv uses a closed au-toclave system: the wood is treated in a special chamber and the process is managed by a computer . Wood is heated up to 180 degrees and pressure is increased up to 9 bars . This process requires less time for processing and it can be done at a lower temperature .

The total annual capacity of our four WTT thermo-treatment de-vices is 19,000 m3 . WTT devices are among the best in the mar-ket because their design ensures that special attention is given to improving the quality and static characteristic of the wood at high temperatures .

Summary of the results of biological tests on wood:Durability test (EN 350-1, EN 113 with EN 84) at 180 ºC processing temperatureDurability class 1 (EN 113/350-1 Durability class 1) – over 25 years (thermo-ash)Durability class 2 (EN 113/350-1 Durability class 2) – 15-25 years (thermo-spruce and thermo-pine)Studies about the compliance of various wood types with standards have been conducted at the University of Freiburg in Germany .

ADVANTAGES OF THERMO-TREATMENTThe biggest advantage of thermo-treatment compared to chemically treated wood is its environmental friendliness: wood is only processed with high temperature and water vapour .

Our pressure chamber enables to process wood at high temperatures without completely drying out mois-ture, this reduces the tensions that form in wood and drying defects . Thermo-treatment reduces wood density and changes its structure, so the humidity absorption and humidity output of the wood decreases . As a result, the wood is more stable in quickly changing weather conditions .

Thermo-treatment removes the organic nutrients of wood pests from the wood and transforms the struc-ture of the wood, thereby improving the characteristics of the wood: the wood becomes more resistant to weather conditions and fungal damage .

Thermo-treated wood is mostly free from resin and much more fireproof than untreated wood . The ther-mal and sound isolation of the wood are also improved .

In addition to practical value, thermo-treatment also creates a great visual effect: heating gives the wood a nice brownish colour . The intensity of the colour depends on the duration of the process and temperature . This allows clients to choose between lighter and darker materials .

Thermo-treated wood has a variety of applications: cladding, decking, balconies, garden elements, windows-doors, saunas and pool rooms, floor boards, parquet, furni-ture .

Ha Serv offers a range of in-ternal sauna materials, deck-ing and cladding panels from thermo-treated wood . We apply thermo-treatment to aspen, alder, ash, pine, radia-ta pine and spruce .

SURFACE FINISH: BRUSHING AND FINE GROOVING

Using brushed panels as an impressive design element is becoming increasingly more popular. Ha Serv also offers fine grooving now.

Brushing beautifully highlights the texture of the wood, emphasises it and gives the panels an old and dignified look. This treatment suits especially well for thermo-treated spruce and pine . In addi-tion to the visual effect, using brushed panels also has a significant practical value: paint lasts longer on coarse surfaces . Brushing also increases the surface soundness of wood because the softer parts of wood are brushed out and scratches and bruising do not occur as easily .

Brushed wood is great for interior as well as external conditions . The structured surface of the wood on cladding and interior wall panels can be emphasised with skilful lightning .

Fine grooved wood is primarily meant for cladding . Fine grooving makes the surface of the wood coarser and finishing paints stay on better.

Ha Serv offers brushing for alder and spruce and thermo-treated alder, spruce and pine, fine grooving for spruce and thermo-treated spruce and pine .

VARIETY OF WOOD TYPES

Common aspen (Populus tremula)The common aspen is a deciduous tree of the willow family in the Malpighiales order. Range: all of Europe and almost all of Asia, also North Africa.Aspen is especially well suited as a sauna material because it does not exude resin, create splinters or heat up. Aspen has a characteristic beautiful light tone. Its smooth texture makes it great to paint.

Common alder or black alder (Alnus glutinosa)The common alder or black alder is a perennial deciduous tree in the birch family of the Fagales order. Range: most of Europe, south-western Asia and North Africa.The reddish colour and nice texture of alder wood makes it in high demand as a finishing material in sauna rooms. Alder is resistant, water-repellent and does not heat up.

Western red cedar (Thuja plicata)The western red cedar is an evergreen coniferous tree in the cypress family of the Pinales order. Range: western part of North America.The red cedar is suitable for sauna rooms because it does not exude resin, is water repellent and does not heat up. It has an especially beautiful varied colour and pleasant smell.

Radiata pine (Pinus Radiata) The radiata pine is a coniferous tree of the pine family in the Pinales order.Range: western part of North America. This species is widely grown for wood in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Chile, Spain, Britain and Ireland.The radiata pine is a very light and exclusive sauna mate-rial. However, it should be taken into consideration that this is a very fragile wood that scratches easily.

Siberian larch (Larix sibirica) The Siberian larch is a deciduous coniferous tree of the pine family in the Pinales order. Range: western, central and southern part of Siberia, and the northern and north-eastern part of the East European Plain. The Siberian larch is one of the best materials for external conditions: the wood is thick and rich in tar and resin, which makes it very resilient even without treatment. The larch is widely used for cladding, decking, fences and roofs and in water engineering and bridge construction.

Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris)The Scots pine is a coniferous tree of the pine family in the Pinales order, the most widespread pine species. Range: widespread in Europe and Asia, from Spain and the coast of Scotland up to the south-eastern part of Russia. Scots pine is highly valued timber because of its good mechanical characteristics. The pine is well suited for thermo-treatment and looks very luxurious after treatment.

Norway Spruce (Picea abies) The Norway spruce is an evergreen coniferous tree of the pine family in the Pinales order. Range: northern, central and eastern part of Europe.The wood of Norway spruce is almost white, with a light yellowish undertone, one of the lightest coniferous woods. Spruce is widely used for timber.

American Ash or White Ash (Fraxinus americana)The American Ash is a perennial monoecious deciduous tree of the olive family in the Lamiales order. Range: North America.Ash wood is valuable, durable, very strong and decorative. Thermo-treated ash wood is perfect in external conditions.

In addition to regular bench boards we also provide a range of special elements, ready-made bench modules, bench skirts and backrests, sauna accessories and a wide range of doors.

As a novelty item, our catalogue now also includes sauna wall panels with end matching. Their use is not limited to saunas but they can also decorate living rooms or office walls.

All materials and profiles that can be ordered as brushed are marked with the letter B. The ordering codes of brushed materials are available from our sales department.

CUSTOM-MADE PRODUCTSIn addition to our standard range, we also offer custom-made prod-ucts according to the client’s needs. For those who do not feel con-fident in planning a sauna, we also offer high-quality complete solu-tions: from the wall panels to the heater and lighting. Some sample solutions are presented on page 38.

INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCEWhen constructing a sauna, it is important to ensure high quality and precise installation; only then can the merit and longevity of the prod-ucts be ensured. It should also be kept in mind that wood is a living material and it needs to be maintained regularly and properly for it to last long.

DECKING AND CLADDINGOur portfolio includes decking and external cladding made of thermo-pine, ash and Siberian larch.

All materials and profiles that can be ordered as brushed are marked with the letter B and products that are avail-able fine grooved are marked with a F. The respective product codes and information about the material lengths is available from our sales department.

Some materials have much more varied use than only decking or cladding construction. For example, in this photo the thermo-pine cladding profile C4 has been used for building a fence.

SPECIAL ORDERS

In addition to standard profiles, we also produce profiles according to the client’s needs. Our sales team will help you find the right solution.

INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE

When constructing a sauna, it is important to ensure high quality and proper installation. Thermo-treated wood is more durable than untreated wood but it needs to be regularly and properly maintained for it to last long.
