The newsletter of Saughall Cricket Club Issue 1 Welcome ...to the first of our Saughall Cricket Club quarterly newsletters. Last season saw much progress in the club, especially for our second team, who came so close to gaining promotion from their league. The first team consolidated their place in the first division whilst the T20 side competed valiantly in the top midweek league. It was good to see the side locking horns against teams many divisions higher than us in Saturday cricket and taking some notable scalps along the way too! Next season promises to be an excellent one for the club. Our players are a year older and a year more experienced, so should be ready to mount challenges in all of the leagues we play in. We will be of course be having regular curry nights and social events so we can put the world to rights too! If you know anyone who you think would like to be added on our mailing list, please email me on [email protected] Nets - let’s hit the ground running! Our winter nets have started at Kings School and will run each week from 8pm to 9pm, so mark your diaries! If you have any part of your game you would particularly like to work on, please contact let us know so that we arrange one-on-one coaching. We have several qualified coaches within our ranks as well as many ‘senior pros’ willing to offer advice if it is required! We are also on the lookout for fresh new talent - whatever their standard! It doesn’t matter whether they are Freddie Flintoff’s more talented brother or if they haven’t picked up a cricket bat in their lives - they will be very welcome at Saughall Cricket Club. This season we will be allowing 14 year olds to play, so please spread the word and get them to come along to nets to meet the rest of the players! For further information please call Ben on 07930 921486 Join the 100 club! You can win cash prizes and help Saughall CC out at the same time by joining our 100 Club! The 100 Club runs from April 2016 to March 2017 and consists of 12 monthly draws. On the 1st of each month two lucky winners will be drawn at random and they will share 40% of the money raised that month, with the remaining 60% going to the club. 1st Prize will take home 25% of the prize fund with 2nd prize claiming 15%. You can have as many numbers as you like to increase your chances of winning and we would invite you to ask friends and relatives if they would like to enter too! Good luck - and remember - it could be you! For more information on this or to enter please visit our website www.saughallcricketclub.co.uk Any old iron! We are especially after DVDs, computer games and quirky items! We already have people to run our stall, we just need things to sell! For further information please call Chris on 07785 425748 Good luck Rob! We would like to wish Rob Maghill all the best as he moves back to his native Yorkshire. Our first player profile is the club’s youngest player who made giant strides last season:

Name: Matty Leek

Player you liken yourself to: Alistair Cook - because I like to leave what’s off the wicket when starting off

Best moment for Saughall: When I got my 18 against Capenhurst

Best match you’ve played in: Port Sunlight 2 seasons ago when we beat them on the last ball and we ran round the pitch cheering!

Best thing about playing: Getting to have a banterous Saturday afternoon with some good mates

Most amusing cricketing story: Probably seeing some of the clothes some of the lads turn up in on match day, mentioning no names, Tom Mann...

My aims for this season: Get 100 runs

Secret talent: Fifa

Tell us a joke: What is Bruce Lee‘s favourite drink? Wataaaaar

The hutch...In order to have brand new balls for each game for the forthcoming season we will need to attract sponsors. If you turn to page 4 of this newsletter, you will see all of our fixtures in The Matrix. For just £15 you could sponsor a match, either for the 1st team, 2nd team or the T20 side. This will give you an entry in The Matrix to publicise your business or to leave a personal message to support the lads. All sponsors will receive further publicity in our match reports, press reports and on our social media feeds as well as receiving this quarterly newsletter. They will also automatically be

Did you know...in order to break even, Saughall CC needs to make £7,000 per season? This pays for a whole host of things such as groundwork, league fees, teas, umpires and machinery loans. Match day subs account for around £4,500 of this, meaning that we need to make up the balance through sponsorship and fundraising.

There are a couple of very simple ways players can help...

Use Easyfundraising for your online shopping. You will have received instructions how to do this. It’s easy, takes minutes to set up and you won’t even notice it’s there, yet every time you make an online purchase, a donation will be made to Saughall CC without it affecting your purchase price. This Christmas, the Club raised around £100 - basically free money for the club!

Sponsor a match ball. If you know any local businesses who would like to sponsor a match ball for any of our games, please let us know. It costs just £15 and the business will be mentioned on twitter, facebook and in our press reports. They will also be mentioned in this newsletter. Last season the balls were fully subsidised by the Club - this season we will need to raise money for them - so please ask around. It would be great if each member of the club could attract one sponsor - either a business or a friend - or even sponsor a ball themselves!

Support our fundraising events. Chris Andrews and Martin Huxley will be arranging some events throughout the season - so please do you best to support them as all money raised goes straight to our club!

Balls!

considered to be a friend of the club and we would invite all members to consider using the businesses listed if required.REMEMBER - they will be responsible for all our sides taking to the pitch with a shiny

new ball, giving us the very best chance to take wickets and win games - so support them for supporting us!If you would like to sponsor a ball please email [email protected]

Congratulation to all those who took part in the Inaugural Saughall CC Golf Competition, held recently at Paradise Island Adventure Golf.It was Martin Huxley who held his nerve to sink a nervy 3 inch putt to emerge victorious, staving off stiff competition from Chris Andrews and Andy Thomas in the Play Off.Mandeep Singh got most hole-in-ones, but was generally poor over the rest of the course whilst Matty Leek’s tactic of whacking the ball as hard as possible ensured he finished last. Roll on the next event!

Our annual match at Chester FC’s Lookers Vauxhall Stadium will take place on Friday 6th May 2016.The match will kick off at 7pm, although players are can gain entry to the stadium any time after 6pm to have a pre-match kickabout on the pitch or talk tactics in the changing rooms!Last season’s match was evenly contested with many players impressing, including Andy Price, who scored the goal of the game with a scorcher from

Sponsor profileWe take a closer look at one of Saughall Cricket Club’s sponsors - beginning with Cleo Pet - our shirt sponsor!

Cleo Pet was founded in 2001 by a specialist Product Designer and his business partner.

At the time it was felt many pet products were lacking the innovation, refinement and style seen routinely in other sectors, and so an opportunity presented itself and Cleo Pet was born.

Since then Cleo has always been and will continue to be ‘product led’. To date we have designed and manufactured over 200 exciting, innovative and stylish products, including cat beds, dog beds, cat climbers, toys and lots more! 15 years on we are proud to say that all our products are still designed right here in the UK.

All our products can be purchased within a matter of minutes from our website www.cleopet.co.uk and we will even give you the option of receiving them on a next working day service if you order before 3pm.
