La Asunción de la San sima Virgen María

Today we celebrate the Assump on of the Blessed Virgin Mary who bore Jesus in her heart before He was conceived and bore Jesus in her body a er He was con-ceived. Hers was a life of hardship. Hers was a life of carrying the cross. But hers was a life filled with the joy of God’s presence and God’s favor. She was the first to know and believe in Jesus. She was the first to share in the life of Jesus. She was the first to be crucified with Him. And she was the first to share in the glory of His resurrec on. Because Jesus took her body and soul into heavenly glory and to be exalted as Queen of the universe (Lumen Gen um no. 59). Why is that so important? Because her des ny is our des ny. We too will be glorified body and soul into heavenly glory…if we follow her example of faith and charity…if we also say “yes” to the will of God by living in the joy of His presence…even if it means our daily crucifixion. So let’s follow her example. When we come up to receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist let us bear Him in our hearts, body and soul, through our love and may we bring Him into the world by doing good and loving our brothers and sisters the way He did. Please remember that if we want to receive Holy Communion in such a way that it more perfectly bears Jesus in our lives, we need to follow certain protocols. First we need to prepare by doing an examina on of conscience. For example, if we have missed mass on Sunday or on a holy day of obliga on without good reason; if we have engaged in illicit sex (with ourselves or someone else); or if we are harboring a deep hatred in our hearts…then we should not go to communion un l a er we’ve made a good Confession. Second, we need to pray in silence. When we come into the church, we need to respect those around us, by praying in silence to be more open to the Lord’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament. Third, we need to dress with respect. Does our a re remind us we are about to receive the King of kings and the Lord of lords? Or does it remind us of something else? Fourth, we need to focus our thoughts on Jesus as we come down the aisle at Communion me. Stop worrying about what you are going to do a er mass, or the people around you. Focus on Jesus. Fi h, we must approach the altar with hands folded and make an act of reverence before we receive Holy Com-munion. If we receive in the hand, we have to make a fi ng throne for the Lord (right hand under the le hand). Then we need to step to one side and consume the host reverently before leaving the foot of the sanctuary. Sixth, when the priest or extraordinary minister says, “The Body of Christ,” we must respond with a faith-filled and enthusias c “Amen.” Please know that if you prefer to receive Holy Communion from the priest—that is your preroga ve and the extraordinary minister will not hold that against you. May our proper recep on of the Holy Eucharist not only give us spiritual strength for this life, but also bring us one step closer to heaven.

Hoy celebramos la Asunción de la San sima Virgen María que llevó a Jesús en su corazón antes de que fuera concebido y dio a luz a Jesús en su cuerpo después de que fue concebido. La suya fue una vida de penurias. La suya fue una vida de llevar la cruz. Pero la suya fue una vida llena del gozo de la presencia de Dios y del favor de Dios. Así que sigamos su ejemplo. Cuando venimos a recibir a Jesús en la Sagrada Eucaris a, llevémoslo en nuestro corazón, cuerpo y alma, a través de nuestro amor y que podamos traerlo al mundo haciendo el bien y amando a nuestros hermanos y hermanas como Él lo hizo. Recuerda que si queremos recibir la Sagrada Comunión de tal manera que llevamos a Jesús en nuestras vidas mas perfectamente, hay que seguir ciertos protocolos. Primero debemos prepararnos haciendo un examen de conciencia. Por ejemplo, si hemos faltado a misa el domingo o en un día de obligación sin una buena razón; si hemos tenido relaciones sexuales ilícitas (con noso-tros mismos o con otra persona); o si abrigamos un odio profundo en nuestros corazones ... entonces no debemos ir a comunión hasta después de haber hecho una buena confesión. En segundo lugar, debemos orar en silencio. Cuando llegamos a la iglesia, debemos respetar a quienes nos rodean, orando en silencio para estar más abiertos a la presencia del Señor en el San simo Sacramento. En tercer lugar, debemos ves rnos con respeto. ¿La manera en que estamos ves dos, nos recuerda que estamos a punto de recibir al Rey de reyes y al Señor de señores? ¿O nos recuerda do otra cosa? En cuarto lugar, debemos enfocar nuestros pensamien-tos en Jesús mientras recorremos el pasillo a la hora de la Comunión. Deja de preocuparte por lo que vas a hacer después de la misa o por las personas que te rodean. Concéntrate en Jesús. En quinto lugar, debemos acercarnos al altar con las manos juntas y hacer un acto de reverencia antes de recibir la Sagrada Comunión. Si recibimos en la mano, tenemos que hacer un trono apropiado para el Señor (mano derecha debajo de la mano izquierda). Luego tenemos que hacernos a un lado y consumir la hos a con reverencia antes de dejar el pie del santuario. En sexto lugar, cuando el sacerdote o ministro extraordinario dice: "El Cuerpo de Cristo", debemos responder con un "Amén" lleno de fe y entusiasmo. Por favor sepan que si prefieren recibir la Sagrada Comunión del sacerdote, esa es su prerroga va y el ministro extraordinario no se lo reprochará.
