Welcome to Our Lady of the Rosary Parish

GOSPEL MEDITATION

As we go about our days, we necessarily label, classify, and prioritize. What's "in" and what's "out" on our priority list? Because humans are social beings, we tend to do the same thing with people. We can only invite six people to the dinner party. Our young child wants to invite certain friends to her birthday, but we're keenly aware of who the parents are, and the prospect of spending several hours with them is enough to give us pause. In today's Gospel, Jesus' disciples face a classification problem. They've seen another person driving out demons in the name of Jesus. They recognize him, a non-Apostle, as clearly "out." And yet "Jesus replied, 'Do not prevent him ? whoever is not against us is for us." Jesus recognizes real faith in the would-be exor-cist. In our own lives, Jesus invites us to recognize others' good intentions. They should not be cut off simply because they do not line up with all our personal preferences. What, then, is deserving of such a fate? "If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off ? if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out." When his listeners blame others, Jesus tends to pivot the conversation to their own lives. In this case, the message is clear. What we really need to cut out is that which keeps us from Jesus. If over-commitment causes us to lose patience with our family, doubt God's providence, and become consumed with self-reliance, cut something out. If certain friendships lead us time after time into gossip and slander, cut it out. In today's Gospel, Jesus invites us to live intentionally in our discipleship. Are we ready?

Dear Parishioners,

Your generous nature overwhelms me. Some time ago we presented you with pictures of a parishioner’s trailer-home that was in dire need of repair. Your outpouring of support was remarkable. Initially, funds were donated to a “GoFundMe” account to help the family. Those funds went directly to the family in need. Additional donations were made directly to OLOR for the purpose of helping the family rehab or replace their trailer. With the passage of time, we have come to the realization that rehabilitating/replacing the trailer in question is not a feasible venture. Through consultation with the Diocese, we have determined that the best possible way to honor the intent of the donor is to donate the money given to OLOR to Catholic Charities to be used for affordable housing endeavors in Pasco County. Thank you for assisting us with this Corporal Work of Mercy. Sincerely Yours in Christ, Fr. Ron

Next weekend is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. In honor of our Patronal Feast, we will recite the Rosary before all Masses. If you would like to participate in praying the Rosary, please come to church 30 minutes before Mass starts.

HEALING THE ABORTION WOUNDED – Project Rachel Significant growth can result from working through the pain of abortion together as a couple. For example, the spouse that was not involved in their husband’s or wife’s past abortion may choose to “spiritually adopt” their spouse’s aborted child. This spiritual adoption can assist in the healing process and be a beautiful way to unite the couple as the family God intends them to be.

Raphael’s Way 10 Hour Healing Retreat will be held on Oct. 5 & 6 in the Palm Harbor area and Rachel’s Vineyard Weekend Retreat will be Oct. 12-14 in Lutz. For more information and registration: Email

Perinatal Comfort Care of Tampa, providing comfort and support to families who receive a poor prenatal diagnosis, is now a

ministry of Catholic Charities Diocese of St. Petersburg. When a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis is made, parents are devastated and often receive a recommendation to terminate their pregnancy. Given little information or support in making their decision, many choose to abort their baby. In reality, there is no continuum of care for families who choose to continue their pregnancy. As a pro-life ministry, Perinatal ComfortCare is dedicated to walking a journey of a lifetime with these families.

This ministry was created as a bridge to help support families who choose to carry despite the diagnosis and to honor and give dignity to their unborn baby. For more information call Kathy DeSanto, RN at 727- 401-5383 or visit our website: ComfortCareTampa.com
