Greetings from Arizona!Devil DanceSport is pleased to invite you and your team to the eleventh annual Devil DanceSport Invitational! Our competition will again be held in the friendly confines of the ASU Tempe campus in the heart of the Valley of the Sun.

Last year, our competition saw over 160 competitors register for over 1,600 entries in 145 events. Due to this popularity, the Devil DanceSport Invitational has become the largest collegiate/amateur ballroom dance competition in the state of Arizona.

The competition will include amateur single-dance events and multi-dance events for individual partnerships. These events cover the American Rhythm, American Smooth, International Latin and International Standard dances; nightclub dances such as Salsa, West Coast Swing, and Lindy Hop; and many more.

As in previous years, our upper-division heats are open to all amateur competitors; this means that non-collegiate competitors will be able to register for Gold single-dance heats, Novice, Pre-Champ and Open multi-dance events, as well as our open Nightclub single-dance heats. We will also be bringing back our popular intercollegiate heats, where our competitors get to dance with students from other schools, and our mixed-proficiency Rookie-Veteran events, where Newcomers and Bronze dancers partner with dancers from Silver level and above. These fun events allow less experienced dancers to partner with peers that they would otherwise not usually dance with! Finally, in keeping with the collegiate tradition, we will be again offering team matches pitting universities against each other, including our popular Newcomer Team Match.

Because Devil DanceSport recognizes that many college students need to stretch their dancing dollars, the Invitational has one entry fee for all of the events and competitors are allowed to register for up to three different competitive levels in each style, as well as Rookie-Veteran.

Finally, there will be a social dance the night before to allow attendees to practice on the competition floor and meet fellow competitors. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. in SDFC 3-Bay Gym and is open to all competitors, students, and members of the larger community.

The following is our complete DDSI Information Packet, with all the information you need to plan your trip to Tempe, Arizona. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us directly at [email protected], or at our Facebook event page (https://www.facebook.com/events/666434777067358).

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, October 27, 2018!James Malone President, Devil DanceSport

Deadline for Entries: October 8, 2018

competed or who have been dancing less than one year. ● All Newcomer, Bronze, and Silver events, as well as the Gold

International style events, are closed syllabus only. These events may be invigilated, and a violation of the syllabus is cause for disqualification. See the NDCA syllabus for approved steps.

● Open choreography is allowed in single-dance events at the Gold American skill level.

Multi-Dance Events● Participants competing in multi-dance events must dance all the dances

that comprise the event in order to be scored.● Open choreography is allowed in all multi-dance events.

Rookie-Veteran Mixed-Proficiency Events● All Rookie-Veteran events are single-dance mixed-proficiency events. All

partnerships registered for Rookie-Veteran events must be composed of one Rookie dancer and one Veteran dancer.

● Due to the mixed proficiency nature of the events, only the Rookie dancer will be scored; as a result, Rookie-Rookie couples may not register for these events.

● Rookie-Veteran partnerships may not be comprised of competitors who danced together in syllabus single-dance or open multi-dance events.

● Rookie-Veteran events will be run in a single combined division, where both Rookie leaders and Rookie followers competing in the same heats.

● All Rookie-Veteran Mixed-Proficiency events will be closed silver syllabus only. A violation of the syllabus is cause for disqualification. See the NDCA syllabus for approved steps.

● Dancers eligible to compete in Newcomer Nightclub events (e.g. Newcomer Salsa) may also register for the Open Nightclub heat in that dance.

● Intercollegiate single-dance events will be offered at the Invitational. Competitors will be able to sign up for these events using Drop/Add forms on the day of the competition and at the social dance the evening before the Invitational. Both members of the partnership must be from different colleges/universities/studios. Additional information about intercollegiate events will be announced a few weeks prior to the Invitational via email and the Facebook event.

Team Matches● Two team match events will be offered: a “themed” team match, and a

Newcomer team match. Schools should register for the team matches by mailing a Team Entry Form before October 8th, 2018.

● Each school is only allowed to enter one set of participants in the themed team match, and one set of participants in the Newcomer team match. The

only exception to this rule occurs when there is more than one distinct collegiate team from one school; in this case, each collegiate team is treated as a separate school.

● No individual may compete in more than one dance within each team match event.
