BANG, POW, WHACK the Junior Tigers have defiantly started their 2010 season with big wins in the 14s and both 16s Divisions. We certainly hope that you all are aware that whilst the results were outstanding you wont always get your own way - however enjoy the win and look forward to backing up again in Round 2. In other pleasing news out of Round 1 was the excellent numbers that turned out in our lower grades. The U8s, 9s, 10s & 11s all fielded full teams and from the match reports they all showed signs that they will be all in for good years. The nerves for the Round 1 games extended from not only the new players in the club but also to our new coach’s and managers who turned out for their first taste of football in charge. I can tell you they all enjoyed week 1 and I had some excited phone calls over the weekend so I reckon the nerves are done and dusted. So to Round 2 and again there will be no easy games for our competition teams and our lower grades continue on with their games at various venues. Just a reminder about our Annual Trivia Night / Dinner, we are very excited about this years event and we would like to start taking bookings for tables ASAP so look at the events page on this news- letter and please give me a call to book your tables for what promises to be a fun night! “EAT EM ALIVE” (News from the Junior Administrators desk) DATES TO REMEMBER Junior Tigers Round 2 - Satur- day 8th May (Pink Day) Matthew Pavlich Visit - Sunday 23rd May Juniors Trivia & Dinner Night - Saturday 19th June at Tigers Licensed Club Tigers Merchandise QUEANBEYAN JUNIOR TIGERS NEWSLETTER Edition 3 - 7 May 2010 CONTACT INFORMATION: Junior Administrator: Adrian Pavese Ph: 6299 3467 Email: [email protected] TIGERS MERCHANDISE ON SALE NOW! On Saturday the Under 8s took on the Eastlake and Wildcats teams at Stirling. There were many new players experiencing their first game of AFL but you wouldn’t have known it.

All the boys played some exciting team football and coach’s Jason Gilbert and Kane Kawse enjoyed the fair play and attack on the football through out the game.

It looks like being a good year for our boys.

The Frank Palombi Under 8s

The Sharp Direct Under 9s

The Bakers Delight Jerrabomberra Under 10s

On Saturday the Under 9 Tigers traveled to Stirling for their first game of the season.

The players, playing in two teams, began the game with great enthusiasm and displayed all the skills that they have been practicing at training. In particular, the players’ kicking to each other was long and accurate. This resulted in many scoring opportunities. Jack Nesbit, Alessandro Sergi and Harry Lewis performed well for Tigers Gold, while Daniel Bogue, Hugh Clark and Nathan Corbett were terrific for Tigers Black.

The use of handball was also well demonstrated with Jessie Hill, Cara Frost and Brett Murray sharing the ball with their team-mates consistently. Strong mark-ing of the ball was also a feature of the young Tigers’ game with Nelson Tothill, Spencer Hoadley and Arian Hoshino making many successful attempts.

In addition to their attack, the defense of the Tigers

was also solid with each player being first to the ball at every opportunity and placing pressure on their opponents. The ball was often cleared from danger by the long kicking of both Makayla Pavese and Jack Heslop.

All players had loads of fun and are looking forward to their next game. Next Saturday, the Under 9s will play at Mawson Oval from 1.00pm. Training will con-tinue on Wednesday from 4.30pm at Dairy Farmers Park.

The Under 10’s kicked off the season at Halloran Drive against the Eastlake Vipers. All players were glad to see their teammate Joey Griffiths there to support them after breaking his leg 8 weeks ago. Queanbeyan started strong with Trent Buchanen showing great endeavor to win the ball. Newcomers Lachlan Forder and Lachlan Obers showed great skill while Ben Millyn and Tom Porter both received awards for their efforts. Jack McNamara and Daniel Brown combined well in defense to clear the ball. Next week we take on the Tuggeranong Bulldogs at Gordon.

The Bungendore Coaches Under 14s

The Doves Away QBN/Goulburn Tigers Under 12s

On Saturday Under 11s Tigers met Ainslie Black in their season opener at Halloran Drive Oval.

The boys started full of enthusiasm using pinpoint handball and long kicking to great effect finding team-mates consistently. All over the ground players worked together, moving the ball quickly, putting the Ainslie team under heavy pressure. As a result some strong marks were taken by key forwards, Lachlan Squire (playing his 50th game) and Matthew McKenzie who each kicked goals.

The players consistently put their training into action by kicking the ball into space, using hard running and support play. This was well demonstrated by all play-ers with Reed Stevens, Dominic Hawksworth and Harrison Straker leading the way. These boys were well supported by Jordy Perkins and Connor Hogan who showed great confidence in their skills. The com-bination of Nicholas Wagland, Enrique Arquero and Christian Polombi was also encouraging.

Although moved around the ground, each player was first to the ball at every contest and gave their team-

mates further a field great service. The tackling of Noah Wright, Aiden McShane and Jason Corbett was solid. While the play of Nicholas Dowling and James Kretschmer and the marking of Hayden Thompson was greatly improved.

The defense played in front of their opponents at every contest and shared the ball well. New players Trent and Matthew Haagensen and Jarod Patterson were strong leaders in the back half while Josiah Hall and Josh Dunn cleared the ball from any Ainslie at-tack.

Next Saturday, the Under 11s travel to Holt to play Magpies from 10.45am. Training will continue on Tuesday and Thursday from 4.30pm at Halloran Drive Oval.

Last week The Doves Away had the bye.

This week play St Eddies at Forestry - 9.15am

A great win in Round 1 for the Bungendore Coaches U14’s Div 2 against Saint Edmunds at Town Park. The boys were a little nervous for their first game and this created a few mistakes and a tight first quarter. Going into the 2nd quarter the boys started to find some confidence and talked on the field. Joshua Dani-her and Mitch O’Toole started to find the posts with great support from Jeremy Edwards and Alex Page. At half time the Tigers lead by 6 goals. The 3rd and 4th quarter followed from the 2nd with consistent play by Kodi Stevens and Jay Ludwig and some great potential shown by Brad Pankasz around the centre ball. With St Edmunds tiring toward the end, the final score was 17.16 118 to 2.5.17.

With Coach Kenny Sissons very happy with the first round play, it looks like a good year ahead for the boys.

What is Volunteering:

Volunteering is an activity where people donate their time and their effort for the benefit of others.

Parents are the backbone of junior football clubs and you are encouraged to become involved with their child’s team. All junior teams require parent assistance to ensure the smooth run-ning of the team for the season. Please see your coach or manager and ask what assistance is you can provide.

AFL SUPERSTAR to Visit the TIGERS!! AFL Superstar and current Fremantle Captain Matthew Pavlich will be visiting the Junior Tigers in 2010. The date has been confirmed for Sunday 23rd May and will run from 11.00am to 3.00pm at Dairy Farmers Park. The Tigers U18 Academy will be given a training session by Matthew between 12pm to 1pm for everyone to watch. This will be followed by photos and autographs. There will be many clinic stations set up around the ground for children to participate in during the day and full canteen facilities will be available.

The Jill & Nicole Bright Under 16s Div 2 After weeks of training behind us, it was time to get down to business. Fine weather and a ground in per-fect condition greeted us for our clash against Marist. With the exception of only a few, we have been fortunate to retain all of our 09 players and on the way have picked up some first year players. Firstly I would like to say a big thanks to Jill and Nicole for once again sponsoring our team.

In view that our opponents got the better of us in our home and away games last year as well as the knock-ing us out in the finals, our boys could not afford the luxury to just ease into the game. Our game plan was to hit every contest hard and play on at all costs. Marist we able to score a major very early in the quarter before our boys steadied and got one for ourselves. As expected, several skill errors were being made by both teams which generated many Turn over around the ground. The first quarter con-tinued with the ball moving from end to end without either side being able to convert the many opportuni-ties. Siren time saw both teams with one major each.

The second term was identical to the first with both teams getting their share of the ball. The Tigers back line led by Norm Lembit, Caleb Hardy and the Burns brothers stood strong and repelled many attacks. Whilst it wasn’t a high scoring quarter, our players were finding plenty of the ball and starting to run in numbers. Long goals to Jason Taylor and Marcus Lawrence late in the term gave us a small lead at the long break

The third quarter saw our game plan starting to find

The Officeworks St Edmund Tigers Under 16s Div 1

many holes in Marist structure. Jack Jacobs gave Ethan Callender a well deserved rest in the ruck and combined extremely well with all the onballers in Jason Taylor, Jeremy McDonald and Daniel Osarek. Goals to Norm, Jason, Jack, Marcus, Taylor Coughtrie-Neal and Daniel Perryman gave our boys a 6 goal to 1 quarter and a decisive lead at the last break.

We continued to run the ball in the final term and pressed forward in numbers. With the game securely in our grasp, further positional changes were able to be made which gave some players an opportunity to play a different role. Pleasing to note was the per-formances by our first game players, Kieran Schmidt, Tristan Kilpatrick, Cheyenne Bowers and Lachlan Tzovaras.

Overall, I was genuinely pleased by the efforts of all players. I would like to pass on my thanks to the par-ents who volunteered their time to undertake the various tasks that needed to be filled on the day. Our next game is at home against Belconnen who posted a convincing win on the weekend.

Final scores – Tigers 14.18. 102 Marist 8.6. 54

Goal Kickers – Jason Taylor 3, Marcus Lawrence 2, Jack Jacobs 2, Jeremy McDonald 2, Norm Lembit, Taylor Coughtrie-Neal, Dan Perryman, Ethan Callen-der, Kieran Schmidt.

Bryan Neal Coach

The Under 16s St Edmunds Tigers Div 1 commenced their season with a stunning win over Gungahlin.

The team looks pretty strong at present with a good mix of players from Goulburn, St Edmunds and QBN providing coach’s Steve West and Dave Kelly plenty of depth going into the season.

On Saturday the boys were simply outstanding with good run and carry of the football and plenty of great defense. It’s only Round 1 but good early form from Kenworthy, Yeates, Galloway and Armstrong showed that the Div 1 good be in for a good year.

St Edmund Tigers 26 – 14 – 170 Gungahlin 6 – 1 – 37

Goal Kickers – Kenworthy 6, Yeates 3, Lennon 3, Maher 3, Treloar 2, Osarek 2, Hodder 2, Hespe 2, Galloway, Buchanan, Armstrong 1.
