SatManage Core

A rich set of monitoring, correlation, and reporting tools to enhance service performance management and maximize bandwidth availability and efficiencies.

The Network Correlator provides powerful visual correlation for rapid fault finding at individual sites or across the entire network.

Near real-time and historical data in the IP domain displays in a multi-dimensional view on a single page. This helps operations to view and compare the cause and effect of numerous streams of data and detect patterns of network degradation through events and trends correlation.

The Network Correlator is preconfigured to display latency, traffic volume and service-affecting events sorted by region, inroute and site. Using unique visual correlation interfaces makes data interfacing simple, fast and efficient, while the output is viewed using standard Web browsers.

Benefits. The Network Correlator allows for fast fault identification and problem resolution. This drastically increases network availability and reduces outage time and operational costs.

The Signal Analyzer provides visual representation of all measured and historical signal quality levels and allows rapid detection of performance changes.

The Signal Analyzer uses a color-coded display of the sites’ signal quality over an extended time period that shows even the slightest degradation in performance. A network engineer can quickly hone in on problem areas with the ability to distinguish between site, regional or hub issues and whether the root cause is weather, hardware failure, solar interference, subsidence or dish misalignment.

Benefits. The Signal Analyzer allows for proactive, even predictive outage management. This results in reduced troubleshooting for remote outages and a descreased number of costly site visits.

The Dashboard is a single-page overview of all key issues going on in the network.

Dashboards can include operational information such as trouble tickets and network performance or customer information such as traffic information and Service Level Agreement (SLA) reports. Any of the SatManage reporting tools, such as the different exception reports showing problem sites, can be combined to produce a Dashboard screen. Users have the choice to use either a pre-created dashboard or create a customized one.

Benefits. The Dashboard enables each user to tailor the tools to each specific network operations task. This allows for streamlined operations and faster turn-around times.

The Circuit Manager is an integrated tool enabling the management of all circuits in a network.

The Circuit Manager suite contains a number of automatic actions that can simplify circuit management. All circuits in the network can be viewed, edited or deleted. If changes are performed the revision control function within the Circuit Manager can display revisions to each vendor’s Network Management System (NMS) and notify any changes in properties as well as the status of each circuit. Circuit Manager provides a single authoritative point of reference for all configuration information in a circuit, including information on site contact, escalation, site assets and network diagram attachments. Driven by templates and HTML extensions, this module can be customized to each user’s specific data inputs and requirements.

Benefits. Circuit Manager offers a uniform interface across all circuits within a network. It simplifies circuit management, thereby providing more visibility and less complexity to network operations.

The Reporter is a set of report tools designed to give instant views and access to all data points collected.

SatManage Tools

The Reporter tool allows the metric and interval of the data to be selected for any site. The data can be displayed in a variety of different ways, such as in graph or html graph format or exported in CSV format for further analysis in Microsoft Excel. Multi-faceted reports can automatically be generated including customized views such as dynamic traffic by packet and service level. All elements in the system, including line cards, networks, inroute groups, and other infrastructure elements are represented.

The Extended Reporter* includes the Advanced Reporter, Top N Report, and VoIP Reporter tools.

The Advanced Reporter provides a broader set of graphing tools, allowing the user to produce area graphs, or graph the average/min/max for the selected metric. The Top N Reporter enables users to see in more detail the top users or applications used on the network such as the top 10 VoIP users, or the bottom 10 upstream C/N.

The VoIP Reporter calculates jitter, latency and packet loss for every circuit without additional hardware or probes. Through this report, it is also possible to calculate R-Value and infer MOS (Mean Opinion Score) both of which are the de-facto telecom industry measures of VoIP quality. These metrics are made available to various modules within SatManage for further performance calculations.

There is also extended monitoring and reporting support for standard iDirect software features such as GQoS, Adaptive Coding and Modulation; as well as extended metrics for infrastructure elements like MCD and SCPC Return.

Benefits. The Reporter Tools provide the service provider with in-depth views into the customer’s network and equips them with instant reporting capabilities on a multitude of parameters.

A robust set of tools for for real-time tracking and managing of mobile remotes.

The Location Tracker supports real-time tracking of all remotes worldwide on an easy and powerful graphical mapping system.

The Location Tracker shows precise location and summary data for individual mobile assets or entire groups or fleets of remotes. The color-coded health status of individual remotes and exact location and heading of the terminals can be checked at regular intervals. Through pop-up windows, all live and historical indicators, including lat/long data, Radio Frequency (RF) and IP performance is displayed. Available in both 2D and 3D interactive versions, the location tracker allows for real-time overlay of external data sources including weather, radar, roadmap, satellite footprint, imagery or other custom overlays.

Benefits. The Location Tracker allows a real-time snapshot of the health, status and exact location of each remote. This simplifies the control of the customer’s mobile assets.

The Multi-homing* system provides users with the ability to seamlessly track remotes to readily identify problems.

The Multi-homing system displays a unified view of a remote’s performance data regardless of which network the remote currently resides. As a result, each remote has a complete history of reports which simplifies issue tracking for beam switches and multiple network configuration conflicts.

Benefits. The Multi-homing system eases fault finding for highly mobile remotes. This lends to reduced downtimes, improved overall performance, and cost savings.

Customer Management

Essential managerial tools for service providers to provide a high-level of customized service to their customer base.

The Customer Portal is a full-featured, customizable portal that service providers can offer as a value-added service to generate additional revenue.

Customers can be given access to the functionality enabled in the SatManage system such as traffic usage, planned maintenance, vessel locations and a self-service capability to keep contact information up to date. A secure authentication engine ensures restricted access to various information and reporting.

Benefits. The Customer Portal provides customers with highly customizable views with multiple authorization levels which result in more informed decisions and increased customer satisfaction.

The SLA Manager* provides service providers and customers with a uniform view into the same data points and methodology pre-determined in a service level agreement (SLA).

The SLA Manager is a rules-based system that is tailored to a specific customer agreement. The reporting takes into account raw network availability and makes adjustments for trouble tickets and other incidents. Special circumstances can be set for mobile networks where outages can be virtually impossible to diagnose. A customer trouble ticket can denote a circuit outage.

Benefits. With the SLA Manager, extensive reports greatly facilitate any SLA reconciliation task, leading to streamlined operations and elevated customer confidence.

Customer Portal

The NOC Toolset provides insight into various information to properly manage network operations.

The Sun Outage Predictor application uses a special algorithm that calculates the sun outage for every site in the network. The results are stored and made available to various tools within SatManage, such as the AutoHelpDesk module, and automatically links interruptions to sun outages or warning messages viewed in the Dashboard. It enables the NOC operator to take pre-emptive measures to prepare for any service outage.

The Remote Status module provides a quick graphical view of the status, performance and health of a particular remote. The Service Provider can view graphical displays of various metrics for any particular remote in a network including Eb/N0, TX/RX power, latency, temperature, TX/RX traffic and frequency offset.

The Message Broadcast and Planned Maintenance Outage tools allow a NOC to communicate important messages such as impending sun outages or upcoming maintenance windows to customers or other NOC personnel. NOC Operators can modify affected sites, and outage information is stored in the database for use by other SatManage modules.

The Remote Application Controller* allows a NOC operator to operate and access other applications, such as iVantage tools or web interfaces to NOC infrastructure equipment, through the SatManage interface.

Auto HelpDesk A set of tools that automate the tasks for issue detection, Level 1 Support, preliminary fault diagnostics, and trouble ticketing. Notify customers of issues or resolutions and send updates on open trouble tickets.

The Auto HelpDesk State Model looks for issues and takes first level actions.

The State Model is able to keep track of multiple hierarchy trees and accepts state change input from polling engines based on tune-able configuration files. The State Model can integrate custom trackers. It can execute call-backs to virtually perform any action such as send an e-mail, sound an alarm or create trouble tickets.

The Auto HelpDesk Diagnostics performs a set of standardized tests and analysis to find the underlying cause.

The Diagnostics module sits between the main State Model and the call-backs, executing on default scripts such as SNR analysis and Packet Loss analysis, and checks for any planned sun outages and maintenance windows. If a cause is found the call-back actions are automatically modified to include all details and do not require any further action from NOC personnel.

The Auto HelpDesk Ticket Portal provides filtered and controlled access to a clients’ trouble tickets.

The Ticket Portal works with either the Auto HelpDesk Ticketing module or 3rd Party ticketing systems* e.g. HEAT, Remedy. It provides access only to the tickets a user is authorized to see. Users have the ability to customize the view and provide sorting and enhanced filtering of virtually any field within the ticketing system providing enhanced at-a-glance overviews to the customer or the NOC operator.

Auto HelpDesk Ticketing provides a feature-rich web-based ticketing system.

The HelpDesk Ticketing Module provides a single location for user authentication, site lists and ticket locking directly embedded into Satmanage. Tickets are organized on a queue-based system and accompanied with a comprehensive set of embedded reports and statistics providing a comprehensive view of the status and history of that ticket. If the service provider prefers to use an external troubleticketing system, SatManage can provide a Trouble Ticketing Integration module that facilitates the full integration.

Benefits. The AutoHelpDesk Toolkit provides fast and efficient Level 1 functions eliminating the need for dedicated resources to perform routine alarm watching and follow basic diagnostic scripts. An automated system can ensure that there are no alarms missed or incorrect tickets and can eliminate up to 70 percent of faults in a short period of time. The result is streamlined operations, increased contractual compliance and enhanced customer satisfaction.

Traffic Analysis

A traffic analysis tool providing detailed visibility into data flows on a network.

Traffic Analysis, a tool exclusive to the Enterprise edition, is a combined hardware/software solution that is a seamless fit with the iDirect network topology. Network traffic is collected using either a SatManage traffic probe or by using Cisco NetFlowTM. The Traffic Analysis tool performs powerful data collection, processing, and storage at the IP address and protocol levels.

Service providers can view traffic in a variety of ways including by definable traffic groups. View the top users on a network to provide valuable intelligence for effective capacity and service planning. Detailed views of individual customer sites or associated VLANs can further provide protocol-level breakdowns up to the application layer for an even more granular view of traffic on your network.

Typical traffic usage of customers near the limits or already in violation of Service Level Agreements can be used to offer new agreements better tailored to customers’ needs.

Benefits. The Traffic Analysis tool allows service providers to monitor and understand traffic patterns to make informed network decisions resulting in bandwidth efficiencies and cost savings.
