mental wellbeing
There is a rise in the suicide rate and we are currently living in a time of urgency. Suicide is among the leading cause of death with over 800,000 people committing successful suicide each year. As of 2019, 1 successful suicide attempt takes place every 40 seconds and the frequency is predicted to be 1 every 20 seconds by 2020.
It is estimated that:
• the average cost of one suicide - USD 1.32 million • 97% of which is due to lost productivity and 3% is costs of medical treatment
With the prediction made by WHO, the number will keep rising unless the problem is dealt with. Reasons for committing suicide can be because of Mental Health and/or complex socio- cultural factors such as gender identity, love, family, debt, or substance abuse.
Mental Health is still very much stigamtized in most part of the world. According to World Economic Forum, by 2030, it is predicted that Mental Health problems will be the leading cause of mortality and morbidity globally. They may result in the world’s economy losing up to USD 2 trillion by 2030.
With Sati App, we plan to provide “on-demand listening services” to those who may be experiencing stress or difficulty and in need of someone who will listen to them. We want to make suicide hotline more accessible, widely available and more inclusive. This means that we are working to create an application that will not just provide ease of accessibility to the user, but we must also take care of our listeners. We are working to create an application so smart that it will learn the tone of your voice to know when someone is in trouble. We want to make sure that the application is also accessible to those whose hearing or vision is impaired.
Apart from just being a listening application, Sati App’s main goal is also to work with other global and local agencies to break the stigma around mental health and suicide. We hope to do so by creating creative and engaging content that features real life stories. Being a tech company doesn’t mean that we will keep everything on-line. We will ensure to work on creating offline campaigns to bring more awareness about the topic to people around us.
We want to make sure that Sati App is a safe space for you, a place where you can post questions and find answers, therefore in the future we will also implement forums on both our website and mobile application so that users can reach out for topics related to their current status. This will help create a community of people who will pool in their knowledge and experiences to provide answers and it will also be a place where questions regarding mental health, stress and suicide are curated.
We are a young energetic group who is passionate to use our experience to create a more empathetic world.
