MARY SALVANI, “Nature Is Our Teacher” | Dec. 2 at 7:00pmMary Salvani is a mixed media artist with cerebral palsy as well as other learning disabilities and disabling conditions. She is also a wildlife photographer and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities, especially the right for people with disabilities to experience nature.

SHAWN BELANGER, “The Way I See It” | Dec. 2 at 7:30pmShawn Belanger is a visual artist from Calgary who specializes in artist inks. After being diagnosed with Autism at age 5, Shawn was told that he would never have functional use of a pencil. Now at age 31 he has exhibited his art in five countries, is the subject of a Telus documentary and has been featured in two books about artists with Autism.

For this year’s SPARK Festival, In-Definite Arts and Studio C are pleased to partner with the University of Calgary to present new SPARK art exploring ability, disability and mental health. U of C students will be exhibiting sculptures on the theme of Adapt Ability Disability, as well as collaborative drawings created through partnered expression, where U of C students pair with disabled artists from the In-Definite Arts Society to create jointly rendered drawings. The works will be shown together in two galleries at the University, under the shared title “Creative Growth”.

SPARK PRESENTATIONS & FESTIVAL CLOSING RECEPTIONSPARK Presentations will be staged in the In-Definite Arts Optimist Gallery (8038 Fairmount Drive SE, lower level) during the Closing Reception for the Festival on Friday, December 2 from 6 to 8pm. Admission is free. While there is ample parking in the lot in front of the In-Definite Arts building, seating within the gallery is limited. Please plan to arrive early as presentations will begin promptly at 6:30pm.
