The first written note mentioning Šarišské Michaľany is from 1248.Our village is situated on the left side of the river Torysa.It is 15 km far from Prešov and 6 km from Sabinov.Older name of Šar. Michaľany is Szent Mihaly.

Saris, 1245The first traces of human life in Šar. Michaľany lead back to about 5000 years ago.The castle belongs to one of the oldest in Slovakia.The Šariš Castle (from 13th century) is the well known place near Šarišské Michaľany.This castle was fired in 1687.

The village was created near of St. Michal Church.The village is namedafter St. Michal.He is a patron of painters, soldiers, tailors, bakers...

St. Michal Church

The village was the property of Šariš Castle until 1403. In 16th century it belonged to the Darholczs and the Rakaczays. They built a manor-house in 1585, later rebuilt it into a renaissance one. A baroque chapel was built next to the manor-house in 1736. The original Romansque church of St. Michal was from 11th - 12th century.In this chapel is a portrait ofWoman Crucified.

Julo Zborovjan, famous poet, play-writer and publicist, was born in Šarišské Michaľany in 1921 (died in 1974).

This is his grave in cemetery in Šar. Michaľany.

Farmaceutical company IMUNA began its production in 1956. It was the reason for development of the village. Imuna produces solution infusions.The Imuna Pharm is its new name.

The first note about the school is from 1799. 404 students attend the school in present. The school has a partnership with Poland(Dobczyce).
