Congratulations to Mrs Sandra Hopes, of Grasstree Beach, for winning first prize in the Sarina District Schools Chaplaincy’s Monster Christmas Raffle.

She recieved a suite of prizes worth over a thousand dollars. The prize included a family day trip to the outer reef with Cruise Whitsundays; a nights accommodation with Club Croc Airlie Beach; a Tiger Moth flight courtesy of Tiger Moth Mackay; Microsoft Home and Business pack and Woolworths and IGA vouchers.

Mrs Hopes said that when she purchased the tickets she didn’t realise just how much was included in first prize.

“The trip to the Whitsundays is certainly something to look forward to and there will be a bit of discussion needed to sort out who goes on the Tiger Moth flight,” she said.

Chaplaincy Committee Chair, Mr Rod Ballard said that substantial funds need to be raised to keep our Chaplaincy service stable.

“Our two major raffles are an important part of keeping this service going. Many thanks go to our sponsors (mentioned above) as well as Mitre 10 Sarina, Hair Play Sarina and Hideaway Restaurant Sarina. We should not forget our ticket selling team as well as our very generous community who support us each year,” he said.

Second prize was won by Ms Adams of Armstrong Beach and third prize was won by Mrs Everett, also of Armstrong Beach.

> Sarina naturopath, Lesley RixHave you been diagnosed with pre-diabetes and advised to change your diet? Have your success been limited?

Let me help show you why a low fat approach is not working!

Current dietary guidelines for the past 40 years have suggested a low fat approach to managing diabetes. This involves eating regular amounts of carbohydrate for energy to replace the fat.

Diabetes is a condition that makes a person unable to metabolise carbohydrates adequately. Hence eating regular carbohydrates increases blood glucose levels.

Eating moderate amounts of fat and protein as well as vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds will allow you to manage blood glucose levels much better than following a low fat, high carbohydrate diet. Personalised diet plans to manage all health conditions can be designed for each patient.

Appointments available in Sarina, call Terry White on 4956 1295 or email [email protected]. Cost one hour initial appointment - $75 (health fund rebates apply).

Calling all voices > Anzac Day 2016 This year we have a vision to make Anzac Day the most commemorable yet. To fill the air with 100 voices singing in unison the songs that make us remember, make us believe, make us strong and make us continue our fight for freedom.

The cadet unit has mustered together a band who will shine along side us on this day when we all come together to unite as one.

There are only two songs and two anthems to learn and all voices of all ages and abilities are needed and wanted. Let’s create our own history and build on the foundations of those who fought for us.

If you read this and can answer the call then please ring Margaret Ross at Sarina Sings Community Choir on 0400 997 588 and be counted as one of the 100 voices who are ready and prepared to sing on Anzac Day.
