Sarina District Historical Centre launched the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) display to celebrate 30 years of operations of Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal on Thursday, November 7, 2013 by Mr Kim Gebers, ManagerofDBCTPtyLtd.Alsopresentweresomecurrent employers who are celebrating 30 years of employment with DBCT as well as former employees. Mr Gavin Springorum and Mr Dave Richards from the EMT were also present. The morning was a wonderful success and was followed by morning tea.

The display will now be open to the public on Tuesdays, WednesdaysandFridaysfrom9amto2pmuntilDecember13andthenwillbeopenagaininFebruary2014. If there any groups of 15 or more who would like to visit and these times don’t suit please contact Carolyn Scott on 0415 533 314 to make arrangements.

It’s that time of year where Christmas is only around the corner. Want something to do on the school holidays?

Come in and hang out at the coolest place in Sarina, the Sarina Youth Centre! We have a range of free activities on offer and you will be sure to have a laugh and make new friends!

The activities will run from 10am-2pm weekdays, so make sure you bring lunch. The Sarina Youth Centre will be closed from December 23, 2013 and will reopen for even more fun activities on January 6, 2014. So bring yourself, and all of your friends to the Sarina Youth Centre to create some amazing memories.

Did you catch Costa in Sarina?

Over 150 community members attended the Sarina Community Day at the Sarina Community Native Gardens recently. The event was organised by Sarina LandcareCatchmentManagementAssociation(SLCMA)andincludedspecialguest,CostaGeorgiadis(hostofABC’sGardeningAustralia).

Costa Georgiadis inspired attendees with an informative talk about developing local food networks and the importance of locals supporting locals to build and strengthen community resilience.

During the morning, Councillor Theresa Morgan from Mackay Regional Council spoke to community members about the journey of the Sarina Community Native Gardens, followed by the official (entertaining) opening by Costa Georgiadis.

The winners of the Sarina Native Garden Competition were also announced with first prize winner Matthew Moore receiving a $500 Mitre 10 voucher, second prizewinnerTomandLynJantkereceiving$300from Mackay Regional Council and third prize winner LynetteKeirreceiving$150worthofgarden‘goodies’fromFarmHQ.AllwinnersalsoreceivedaoneyearLandcaremembershipforSLCMA.

During the event, attendees were treated to guided tours of the Sarina Community Native Gardens to find out about the benefits of using native plants and the different ways they can be incorporated into our local gardens as well as, keeping entertained with stalls and displays from local community groups including: Landcare,SarinaStateHighSchool’sMobileAquaponicunit, Mackay Community Gardens, Conservation VolunteersAustralia,MackayRegionalPestTrailer,SocietyforGrowingAustralianNativePlants,SarinaScoutsClubandAustralianWildlifeRescueService.There was lots of fun for the whole family. Shine Catering and Coffeelicious provided refreshments for everyone.
