Boy and Bear - Limit of Love Regional Tour 2016 Thursday, November 24, at 7.30pm MECC, tickets $46.60 - $51.80 Boy & Bear have today announced a massive tour of regional Australia for November and December 2016. Fresh from a stellar set at Splendour and the Grass, the five-time ARIA winners released their third studio album Limit Of Love in 2015. Excited to be hitting the road, Killian Gavin (vocals, guitar), enthuses, ‘We’ll be changing it up night to night really, often the venue depicts what kind of show we will go for. A nice noisy pub makes a great rock show while the intimate theatres allow a lot more room for dynamics and banter. Keeps us on our toes and stops us from being repetitive. It’s been a long time coming for us, this regional run. But we always love playing to as many local cities as we can, it takes time to get back there but we’re looking forward to it.’ This is an all ages event.

Residents are being given the opportunity to provide feedback on the future of three local beaches. Council, in partnership with Reef Catchments, has recently reviewed local coastal plans for beaches at Bucasia, Grasstree Beach and Blacks Beach.

The plans have been designed to protect the coastline from environmental impacts such as erosion as well as protecting habitat for important ecological species and reducing the impact of humans, where possible. The plans also incorporate the need for recreation and facilities at each beach.

Residents can read the plans and leave their feedback by visiting connectingmackay.com.au. Community consultation will be open until Friday, December 2.

Council will also hold a community consultation day at each beach on the following dates:

• Bucasia: Saturday, November 5 from 2pm to 4pm at Seaview Park, Bucasia Beach

• Grasstree Beach: Sunday, November 13 from 9am to 11am at Grasstree Esplanade Park

• Blacks Beach: Sunday, November 13 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at Blacks Beach Park, Bourke St

There will be plant giveaways and colouring for the kids at each community consultation day.

Have your say on the future of our beautiful beaches

The Palaszczuk State Government has announced plans to reallocate $1.3 million in funding for the project. The funds will help construct a Visitor Information Centre at the Bruce Highway site at Sarina.

An overwhelming 86 per cent of the 1.5 million annual visitors travel to the region using self-drive vehicles. Tapping into the self-drive market at this location means we can direct them to the Pioneer Valley, Sarina beaches and other major attractions in our region.

The Field of Dreams is also the site of the multiple award-winning Sarina Sugar Shed – the only operating miniature sugar mill and distillery in Australia.

A $1.3 million investment by the State Government will be complemented by a significant funding contribution by Mackay Regional Council.

Mackay Regional Council’s new Seniors Pet Program is designed to find loving homes for older abandoned animals with a senior person. It can be harder to find homes for older abandoned animals, however they still have a lot of love and loyalty to give.

Adopting a pet through the program will be FREE of charge to seniors and include desexing, microchipping and registration fees. Pets provide a multitude of benefits to their owners including companionship, improved physical and mental health, stress reduction and love and affection.

Eligible seniors must hold a senior’s card. To register your interest in the program, visit www.mackay.qld.gov.au/seniorpets.

When stress becomes chronic, the continual flow of stress hormones produced by the adrenal gland can begin to affect the thyroid. This can lead to a variety of disorders including obesity, high or low blood pressure, high cholesterol, dry skin, blood sugar dysregulation and extreme fatigue.

Often the doctor will test your thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). Unfortunately by only testing TSH we only know part of the picture. We need to know how our active thyroid hormones are being used and whether we are producing antibodies. TSH levels alone do not tell us this. If you feel your exhausted or depressed, rather than accepting antidepressants, ask your doctor to do further testing on your thyroid.

The thyroid is affected by poor diet, toxic overload, allergens, stress and infections. These are areas in our lives which we can work on. A good diet, clean water, early nights and some regular exercise can all help to regulate our thyroid and get us feeling back to our old selves.

If you are worried about your thyroid, discuss this further with your doctor or natural health practitioner - Lesley Rix Naturopath Sarina and Moranbah, 0400 547 958.
