Doors will open at 6pm. Tickets are $40 each or $300 for a table of eight.

Join us at the Bob Wood Cultural Hall for a night of fun and delicious food as we celebrate amazing women in our community.

Enjoy guest speakers, a delicious two-course dinner, live music from Three Way Crossing, a steam-punk-themed fashion parade, drink on arrival and lucky door prizes.

Sarina Womens WeekDinner and Awards

The Sarina Women’s Week Dinner was held at the Bob Wood Cultural Hall on Friday, March 8, 2019, to celebrate Queensland Women’s Week.

A wonderful evening of celebrations was shared with nearly 200 attendees including Mayor Greg Williamson, CEO of Mackay Regional Council Craig Doyle, Counsellors and women of the Sarina district who were nominated. The event was coordinated by the Mackay Regional Council Sarina Neighbourhood Centre with sponsorshop from Sarina Bendigo Community Bank, BHP Hay Point, Aurizon, Queensland State Government and Goodes Butchers. Cerfiticates were presented by Mayor Greg Williamson, Cr Karen May and narrated by Cr Fran Mann and Lou Harris from Aurizon.

Guests were entertained with a fashion parade of clothes from Steam Punk Time-Barb Davis.

Guest speakers were: > Melissa Johnson, General Manager, BHP Hay Point > Josie Dahtler, recent Sarina High School graduate and Bendigo Bank Employee > Teya Gibson, local business owner > Charmaine Matsen, Sarina Community Bendigo Bank Manager

All of the 22 nominations received were considered for the Mary Malone Memorial Award. This annual award, donated by Mary’s daughters Ann Hand and Michelle Cameron, was introduced in 2017 in recognition of the contributions made by Mary Malone to the Sarina district community.

Mayor Greg Williamson presented the Mary Malone Memorial trophy to the well-deserved 2019 recipient Dianne Barnett.

Entertainment was provided by the wonderful and talented band Three Way Crossing, which kept everyone moving on the dance floor during the evening.

A massive thank you to our photographer’s Royce Bishop and Donna West, which captured the night beautifully through their photography. The Bob Wood Cultural Hall was decorated by Linda McInnes from Florella Flowers. A big thank you to Ange Julian who once again donated her valuable time to MC the event. Thank you also to the Sarina RSL for catering the event and for running the bar with the assistance of the Sarina Lions Club.

On behalf of Soroptimist International of Mackay we would like to sincerely thank all of our supporters of our Annual Ovarian Cancer “Paint the Town Teal” on February 24, 2019. What a great day was had by all, with over 100 women and men at our annual Ovarian Cancer Afternoon Teal event. We were supported by Dr Bill Boyd (Gynaecologist), Dr Zia Ansari (Oncologist), Dr Elissa Hatherly (GP) and Jacquie Camilleri (Volunteer for Trudy Crowley Ovarian Cancer Foundation) and Emcee Mikki Boyd).

Heaps of great snap raffle prizes were scooped up by those supporting us on the day, a lovely afternoon tea was enjoyed by all, as well as some sampling our new addition to the day Teal Hope and Teal Strength Mock and cocktails and we were entertained with soothing singing by part of Stage 5.

We are proud to inform you that the afternoon raised $4,300 for Ovarian Cancer Australia. Check out our Facebook page - Soroptimist International Mackay for photos and information.

> Toddler Time Mondays from 9.30am - 10am Toddler Time encourages language development and social interaction for toddlers to two-and-a-half-years. The session features nursery rhymes, finger plays, action songs and a story. Children learn best from the important people around them.

> Baby Bounce Tuesdays from 9.30am – 10am Baby Bounce promotes language development in babies from birth to walking. The session features nursery rhymes, finger plays, songs and stories. It’s never too early to talk, read and tell stories with your child. A Child Health Nurse from Mackay Hospital and Health Services will be attending fortnightly to weigh and measure babies.

> Storytime Wednesdays from 10am - 11am A program of stories, nursery rhymes, finger plays and songs for children aged 2 – 5 years. Sessions encourage a child’s love of books.

> National Youth Week Monday, April 8, 2pm - 3.30pm (12-18yrs) Sarina Library It’s National Youth Week and we’re playing in the dirt! Libraries have teamed up with the clever people from the council’s Parks & Environment team so we can play with seed bombs, identify weeds, and chat about careers in the great outdoors!
