Introduction:- Before starting the book of صرف it is essential to learn some key vocabulary to remove any difficulties that may come whilst studying. These terminologies are as follows:-

Verb - Action/Doing word فعل .Noun - Place, Name or Object etc اسم

Letter(s)-Linking a Noun to a Noun or a Verb to a Noun حرف Past Tense ماضي Present Tense �ال

Note: In a 3 lettered past tense word, the 2nd letter could have a Pesh ( ◌) or a Zer ( ◌) depending on what kind of word it is. E.g. كرم has a Pesh ( ◌) and ع .and they follow the same pattern فعل ماضي has a Zer ( ◌). These are also سم

Exercise: Apply the following words to the گردان using the same pattern:

Rules for changing a 3 letter ماضي معروف into ماضي مجهول :- 1. Change the E’rab on the 1st letter (Faa Kalimah) into a Pesh ( ◌)

e.g. عل ف فعل 2. Change the E’rab on the 2nd letter (Ayn Kalimah) into a Zer ( ◌)

e.g. ل ع ف فعل

Rules for changing a معروفماضي which has more than 3 letters into

مجهول ماضي :-

1. Leave the E’rab on the Last Letter the same e.g. افتعل افتعل 2. Change the E’rab on the Second to Last letter into a Zer ( ◌)

e.g. افتعل افتعل 3. Apart from the last two letters, all Harkaats will be changed into a Pesh

( ◌) e.g. فتعل ا افتعل 4. Apart from the last two letters, all the Sukoon ( ◌) will stay the same eg.

Topic of "لم" Negative Denial used with the Letter المس�تقبلد بلم في النفي الج�

in Future Tense :- Note:- “ لم” makes the last letter of the فعل a Sakin ( ◌) as long as there are no signs of dual and plural present in the word. If there are signs of dual and plural then the Noon (ن) will not appear. “ لم” gives meaning of past tense instead of future tense. (Although the physical structure of the word shall be future tense.)

A Positive Command is made from a فعل مضارع , it will receive a laam with a zer ( ◌ ) at the beginning of the ائب� and متكلم verbs and it will be in the state of jazam ( ◌ saakin). E.g. فعل ی to لیفعل

Rules for changing a فعل مضارع into a معروف امر �اضر :- (these rules are SPECIFIC to امر �اضر معروف hence they DON’T APPLY to مجهول فعل ).

1. Remove the sign of مضارع e.g. from یضرب to ضرب and ف یصر to ف صر2. Now if the next letter has a Saakin then add a Hamza

e.g. from . اضرب to ضرب However if it Does not have a Saakin then there is no need to add a Hamza e.g. ف صر remains ف صر

3. Give the last letter a Saakin e.g. from اضرب to اضرب and ف ف to صر صر4. If the second to last letter has a Zabar/Zer then give the Hamza a Zer

e.g. from اضرب to اضرب If the second to last letter has a Pesh then give the Hamza a Pesh e.g. from انصر to انصر
