This is a lesson I use for all freshman classes at the beginning of the school year to participate as a member of the

instructional team and simply do my job!

A place in which literary and artistic materials, such as books, periodicals,

newspapers, pamphlets, and prints are kept for reading, reference, or lending.

A collection of such materials, that are systematically arranged.

HOW THE LIBRARY COMPUTERS ARE TO BE USED BY STUDENTS:

WORD PROCESSING, CLASS PROJECTS, PAPERS, ETC.

INTERNET RESEARCH FOR CLASS ASSIGNMENT

ALL WORK DONE ON COMPUTERS, MUST RELATE TO EDUCATION

Printing…

•Students should not print anything that does not relate to one of

their classes.

•You may print schoolwork.

•All black/white print jobs are 10 cents each (even if it was a mistake). Do not print from a website!

•Color Print jobs are .20 cents each. Save to a flash drive and give to Ms. Holt to print in color.

•PRINTING FROM WEBSITES

• Cut and paste the portion needed to a writing document.

•DO NOT print the entire website.

Computer Use

• Using the computers is a privilege.

•You are accountable for actions you make on the computer.

BRIEFLY:*Cheating is any form of copying or receiving

unauthorized assistance on an exam, paper (essay), homework or other assignment.

*Plagiarism means to represent the words, language, ideas, or thoughts of another person as

one’s own or original work.

Fiction books are invented by the author.

Fiction books are arranged on the shelf in alphabetical order by the author’s last name.

For Fiction, the sticker on the spine of the book contains the first 3 letters of the author’s last name.

• Nonfiction books contain facts about real things, people, events and places.

• Nonfiction books are organized by their subject. Call numbers (spine labels) range from 0-999 and have the author’s last name with the

numbers.

Call Numbers for Nonfiction look like this.

The numbers on the top row of the label designate the subject (880 Greek Literature)

The 3 letters designate the authors last name. PLA - Plato

Call Numbers for Biographies can look like this.

Biographies are an exception. They are filed by the number for biographies 92.The letters designate the first 3 letters of the subjects last name.

MATERIALS SUCH AS DICTIONARIES, ENCYCLOPEDIAS,

ATLASES AND BIOGRAPHY GUIDES ARE FOUND IN REFERENCE.

BOOKS IN THIS AREA ARE NOT TO BE CHECKED OUT. THEY ARE AVAILABLE

FOR STUDENT USE WITHIN THE LIBRARY.

• WHEN YOU ARE DONE WITH THE BOOKS YOU ARE USING, DO NOT PUT

THEM BACK ON THE SHELVES.

• PLACE THEM IN THE BOOK RETURN LOCATED AT THE CIRCULATION DESK.

Fines are charged on library books that are turned in late.

The fine rate is set at $.10 per school day.

The due dates are stamped in the back cover of the book as a reminder.

The student is the responsible party for returning the books on time.

Books are due 2 weeks after check-out.
