Weyman Hillard “Skip” Cox II

Skip and his wife, Penny, reside in Del Mar, California. Skip has four children from a previous marriage, Angela, Chuck and Cory and one deceased child, Chip, who died as a result of a drowning accident at age 14. Skip is a Florida native. He grew up in a rural community outside Birmingham, Alabama. When he was 17, his family moved to Decatur, Alabama, where he graduated from Decatur High School.

Following graduation from high school, Skip worked as a construction worker, beginning at $1.00 per hour, then bible salesman and then baby picture salesman. He then went to work for the Prudential Insurance Company of America as a District Agent. In his first full year, the year he turned 21 years old, he sold over $1,000,000 of life insurance, ranked #32 in sales nationally and was the youngest agent ever to sell $1,000,000 of life insurance for Prudential. He twice sold over $1,000,000 of life insurance for Prudential and then was promoted to staff manager. He is a graduate of The Institute of Insurance Marketing, Adult Education Department, School of Business, Louisiana State University (LSU) where he subsequently served as a full

time Associate and taught life insurance, estate, business and trust planning to life insurance agents and managers, attorneys, CPAs, and trust officers. He has taught seminars and lectured at the Universities of North Carolina, Arkansas State and Mississippi, Mission Mountain College, Polson Montana. Following his return to private practice, he continued to serve LSU as a Distinguished Faculty Advisor. He received the Charted Life Underwriter (CLU) designation from The American College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation from the College for Financial Planning, Denver, Colorado. He holds a Certificate in Advanced Pension Planning from the American College. During his business career spanning over 40 years, he lead several life insurance companies in sales and served on multiple life insurance companies advisory committees. He was, for decades, a member of the International Forum, and served on their Board of Directors for multiple terms. He was a founding member of “The Top of the Table of The Million Dollar Round Table. The members of The International Forum and The Top of the Table are estimated to be in the top 1% of the life insurance agents in the world. Skip was active in politics. During the Reagan Tax Reform Hearings, he testified on taxation before the US House of Representatives, Committee on Ways and Means and the US Senate, Committee on Finance. In 1992, he was a candidate in the Republican primary for the United States Congress, House of Representative, 49th District, California, a race he lost by approximately 7,000 votes. He has met with four Presidents of the United States, Regan, Ford, and Bush (both). He looks forward

to meeting his 5th Republican President, hopefully soon. He was invited to the White House Mess for breakfast on two occasions. As CEO of Cox Financial Advisors, Inc., Skip specialized in life insurance, estate and business financial planning for automobile dealers. He was the Estate Planning Consultant for the Louisiana and Texas Automobile Dealers Associations. His auto dealer clients were domiciled from coast to coast. He has authored articles on estate and business planning for national and state auto dealer publications. Cox Financial Advisors was a founding member firm of National Financial Partners, which, approximately 7 years after its founding, went public on the NYSE. Skip is retired. Skip is a Christian and spends time in various Christian activities including bible study groups and as a member of the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church and is a mentor to 6th grade students at Casa de Amistad. He is a supporter of Colin’s Hope, a 501 (c) (3) pubic charity in Austin, Texas dedicated to providing education and training in water safety to prevent children drowning. Drowning is the #1 cause of unintentional injury related death among children less 14 years of age and ranks very high as a cause of accidental death for children more than 5 years old. He is a history buff, particularly the American Civil War. He has portrayed Lt. General James Longstreet, Commander, 1st Corp, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A., in reenactments and speaking on the Battle of Gettysburg. He is a member of the Charles M. Russell Museum, Great Falls, Montana, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Civil War Trust, the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, Petersburg, Virginia and the Longstreet Society. Skip was a member of Toast Masters International where he won several “Humorous Speech” competitions as “Waymone Eelyard” the Cajun storyteller. Skip is a lifelong love of country music. He sings and plays rhythm guitar in the style of Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson and other dead or dying old country troubadours. He is an avid fly-fisher and writer, having fished in multiple states and 10 foreign countries. He has authored fly-fishing articles published locally, nationally and internationally. He is a member of the Golden States Fly Casters (GSF), The International Game Fish Association (IGFA), the International Fly Fishers Federation (IFFF) and the Bonefish &Tarpon Trust (TTB). Skip was a member of La Costa Resort and Spa, Carlsbad, California for over 20 years and he won the La Costa 1998 Men’s Golf Handicap Match Play Club Championship. He is a member Torrey Pines Men’s’ Golf Club, La Jolla, CA and The Saint Andrews Golf Club, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland, UK.

Dr. Robert Lewis Fagaly

Dr. Robert Lewis Fagaly is the 4th great-grandson of Isaac Bogart, Jr. who, as a lieutenant in the 3rd New York Regiment of the Continental Army, served under George Washington at the Battle of

Brooklyn. His Great-grandfather, William Harrison Hicks, served in the Ohio 71st Regiment during the Civil War. A native of Nantucket, Massachusetts, he is the son of Cartoonist Al Fagaly, creator of the comic strip “There Oughta Be A Law” and artist for many Golden Age comic books such as Marvel Comics, Archie, Pep, and Super Duck. Bob grew up in Newport Beach, graduating from Newport Harbor High School. He received a BS in Chemistry from San Jose State, a MBA from the University of San Diego and a PhD in Physics from the University of Toledo. He is the author of over 100 technical papers in the fields of physics and medicine. He is a

Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and is a Member of the American Society of Hematology. He sits on the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Technical Advisory Committee, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and has served on numerous government advisory panels for the Departments of Defense and Energy, along with the National Institutes of Health. He has also served as treasurer of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego. He is an avid coin collector and has authored a number of journal articles on the economics of coins and the Grading Guide to Early American Copper Coins, which received the 2015 Book of the Year award from the Numismatic Literary Guild. His current interest is collecting 1793 – 1857 half cents and Revolutionary War era Comitia Americana medals. He is a Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America. He is a past president of the San Diego Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and currently chairs the Eagle Scout Committee. He is also a member of the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of California and the New York State Society of the Cincinnati where he serves on its Standing Committee. He and his wife (PJ) have lived in Carlsbad since 1981. They have two sons, Russ and Alec and one grandson with another on the way.

San Diego Chapter SAR Compatriots, The House of Spain and the Sons of the American Revolution San Diego
