Teacher Objective: As your Algebra II teacher, it is my goal to meet your needs to achieve the high standards needed to be successful in this class and to prepare you for the next. You will have daily opportunities to practice the work both inside and outside classroom, and both individually or collectively.

Course Objective: Algebra II is a continued study of algebraic concepts and procedures in addition to its applications. This course is a requirement for students wishing to move on towards post-secondary education – including higher mathematics – and as such will have a high level of rigor involved. The website below has helpful information on the standards and practice problems encountered in this class. http://www.floridastudents.org/#37|9|13012|0

Topics Covered: The contents of Algebra II include: building on topics covered in Algebra I, polynomial, rational, and radical relationships, trigonometric functions, modeling with functions, inferences and conclusion from data, and applications of probability.

90 – 100 A

80 – 89 B

70 – 79 C

60 – 69 D

0 – 59 F

Grades will be calculated as follows:

1. Tests/Quizzes: (60%)

At minimum two tests will be given each quarter on topics covered in this class. School board requires all make-up tests be done upon returning to school after absence. Students are responsible for scheduling to make up the test with the teacher – before or after school or during lunch.

Preparing for tests is a continuum process by completing study guides, reviewing homework and class notes, participating in class activities, asking questions about unclarified content, and after school tutoring.

Quizzes will be given during the year – announced or unannounced. Quizzes can include but not limited to content covered in class, homework quizzes, or a binder/note quiz.

2. Assignments/Practice Work: (15%)

Doing assignments is important! It is vital that you attempt the entire assignment. Parent/Student will be responsible for checking homework for accuracy on school website. Homework is to be completed as an individual assignment. If caught working together this will be considered cheating and school consequences will be utilized. The homework assignments are worth 5 points. The following is the Fundamental Policy for additional information on demerits.

5 points 0 demerits Homework completed by beginning of period due date. Criteria for credit met. All problems written and attempted.

0 points 2 demerits No homework completed, or incomplete homework

*Applies only to students in the Fundamental Program.

3. AVID Binder/Cornell Notes: (15%)

Boca Ciega HS is now becoming an AVID certified school. As such, there is a school wide initiative for all students to now have a school binder and adopt the Cornell Way for note taking.

4. Cognitive Tutor: (10%)

The curriculum used by Pinellas County Schools has an additional computer students will be expected to work on. This will be an additional way to build proficiency through practice for students. There will be a rubric given to students on how this component will be graded.

5. Midterm/Final Exam:

Midterm: Since this is an FSA course the midterm is mandatory for everyone.

Final: The FSA takes place of our final so there is no final exam.

Attendance: Attendance is required for academic success. Please be responsible and use the restroom and go to lockers before school, during lunch, or during passing time to avoid missing class time. Most days we will discuss new concepts and/or vocabulary. Also most days you will have homework. Please be on time to class. Class starts when the bell rings with the warm-up.

Make-Up Policy: Students will be given an equal number of days absent to make-up work (classwork, homework etc.) Students are responsible to check the weekly lesson plans posted on the school website or talk to the teacher (before or after class) to obtain make-up work. If you are absent the day an assignment is due, it will be due or made-up the day you return. Turn in all make-up work to class period basket with date on top.

In accordance to the school board policy, all tests must be made-up upon return to school.
