2.3 Service Pack language support
SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 Service Pack supports product language pack updates for thefollowing languages:• Czech• Danish• Dutch• English• Finnish• French• German• Hungarian• Italian• Japanese• Korean• Norwegian• Polish• Portuguese• Russian• Simplified Chinese• Slovak• Spanish• Swedish• Thai• Traditional Chinese
Note:
• The Hungarian and Slovak language packs can be installed only on Service Pack 3 and higher.• The Service Pack installation program automatically updates previously installed language packs.
You cannot install a new language pack when installing a Service Pack.• SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 Service Pack 1 supports only English language.
If you are installing a Language Pack that was not available during earlier Service Packs, you mustensure that your SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI deployment is at the same level or higher than the
2010-09-1314
Planning
Language Pack that you are installing. For example, if your deployment is at Service Pack 1.2 and youwant to add the Czech Language Pack from Service Pack 1.3, you must either• Update your deployment to Service Pack 1.3, which is the same level as the Czech Language Pack,
and then install the Czech Language Pack, or• Update your deployment to a higher level than the Language Pack, such as Service Pack 2.1, install
the Czech Language Pack from Service Pack 1.3, and then apply the Service Pack 2.1 LanguagePack update.
If you want to install a Language Pack that is at a lower level than the level of your SAP BusinessObjectsEdge BI deployment, install the Language Pack and then apply the Language Pack update so that theLanguage Pack is at the same level as your deployment.
For information on installing an additional language pack, see SAP BusinessObjects Edge Series 3.1Installation Guide for your platform.
2.4 Service Pack installation limitations and restrictions
The following limitations and restrictions apply to Service Pack installation:• Service Packs are patch installations, not complete product installations. An SAP BusinessObjects
product must be installed in order to install a Service Pack.• A Service Pack only updates files that are already installed. For example, if you previously performed
a custom installation, the Service Pack will only update the subset of files that was installed duringan initial installation.
• Service Packs only contain updates and fixes for existing product features. New features are notincluded in Service Pack releases.
• Service Packs can only be installed in their entirety. You cannot install a subset of Service Packupdates.
• It is required that all components in an SAP BusinessObjects system be at the same Service Packlevel. For example, SAP BusinessObjects server, client, and web components must be at the sameService Pack level. If you update one component of your SAP BusinessObjects system, you mustalso update the other components. If you uninstall a Service Pack for one component in your system, you must uninstall the same Service Pack for the other components.
• If you install a new SAP BusinessObjects product or component to your system after Service Packinstallation, you must apply the Service Pack to the system where you installed the new product orcomponent to ensure that all SAP BusinessObjects products and components are at the sameService Pack level.
• Service Packs can only be installed on a deployment that is at the same Service Pack level. Forexample, Service Pack 1.x can be installed on SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1, but cannot beinstalled on SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 Service Pack 3.
• You cannot install an earlier Service Pack on top of a later Service Pack. For example, you cannotinstall Service Pack 2 if Service Pack 3 is already installed.
Note:Service Packs are cumulative. For example, Service Pack 3 contains all Service Pack 2 updates aswell as Service Pack 3 updates.
2010-09-1315
Planning
• If you uninstall a core product, the Service Packs for that product are not automatically uninstalled. You must manually uninstall the Service Packs. For example, if you uninstall SAP BusinessObjectsEdge BI 3.1 Service Pack 3, you must manually uninstall 3.x Service Packs from your system.
• It is only possible to automatically redeploy SAP BusinessObjects web application components usingthe Service Pack installation program if you originally deployed the web application componentsusing the SAP BusinessObjects installation program. For more information, see Updating webapplication components.
• You cannot install a new language pack when applying a Service Pack. SAP BusinessObjectsService Packs only update languages that were previously installed with your SAP BusinessObjectsinstallation.
For information on installing an additional language pack for SAP BusinessObjects products, seethe SAP BusinessObjects Edge Series 3.1 Installation Guide.
• While installing SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 Service Pack 2 refer to the SAPBusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 Service Pack 2 Installation Guide for your platform.
• While installing SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 Service Pack 1 refer to the SAPBusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 Service Pack 1 Installation Guide for your platform.
2.5 Planning your Service Pack installation
Before applying a Service Pack to your SAP BusinessObjects system, the following steps arerecommended:
• Identify all SAP BusinessObjects products and components that require updates.
For the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 release, Service Packs are provided for each SAPBusinessObjects product that has its own installer. Refer to SAP BusinessObjects Service Packsto identify the Service Packs required for your upgrade.
It is required that all SAP BusinessObjects products and components be at the same Service Packlevel, except for SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 which should be at Service Pack 1.This includes SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI servers, client tools, web components, and other SAPBusinessObjects products such as Live Office and integration kits.
If you have SAP BusinessObjects web application components installed, ensure that you havedefined an update path for these components. The update path depends on how you initially deployedthe web application components. For more information, see Updating web application components.
• Before you begin, review Service Pack installation limitations and restrictions.• Review Service Pack installation scenarios. The scenarios may be of assistance in planning your
upgrade.• Before you begin, gather all required documentation. Depending on your upgrade, additional SAP
BusinessObjects documentation such as the SAP BusinessObjects Edge Series 3.1 InstallationGuide may be required.

Installation scenarios
3.1 Service Pack installation scenarios
This topic describes common Service Pack installation scenarios that may be helpful in planning yourService Pack installation.
Scenario 1: Applying a Service Pack to an SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI installationIn this scenario you must apply the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 Service Pack.
Note:A typical SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI installation includes client tools. The SAP BusinessObjectsEdge BI 3.1 Service Pack will update client tools that were installed as part of the SAP BusinessObjectsEdge BI installation. If you want to install client tools using the SAP BusinessObjects Client Toolsinstaller, see Scenario 2.
Scenario 2: Applying a Service Pack to an SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Client Tools installationIf you have originally installed SAP BusinessObjects client tools using the SAP BusinessObjects ClientTools installer, you must apply the SAP BusinessObjects Client Tools Service Pack. If you want to usean SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack to upgrade an SAP BusinessObjects Client Toolsinstallation, the installer will fail and you will receive an error message.
Scenario 3: Applying Service Packs to a system with multiple SAP BusinessObjects productsDue to product interdependencies, it is required that all SAP BusinessObjects products are at the samemaintenance level except for SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 which should be at ServicePack 1. For example, if you want to apply a Service Pack to Live Office, and SAP BusinessObjectsEdge BI, you must apply Service Packs for the two products so that all products are running at thesame Service Pack level. In this scenario, you must apply a Live Office Service Pack, and an SAPBusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack.
Scenario 4: Applying Service Pack updates to web application componentsHow you apply Service Pack updates to web application components depends on how componentswere originally deployed. For more information on applying updates to SAP BusinessObjects webapplication components, see Updating web application components
2010-09-1319
Installation scenarios
3.2 Updating web application components
How you apply a Service Pack update to SAP BusinessObjects web application components dependson how the components were originally deployed.
One of the following three scenarios apply:• If you have deployed SAP BusinessObjects web components using the SAP BusinessObjects
installation program, the Service Pack installation program allows you to update web componentsautomatically when you apply an SAP BusinessObjects Service Pack.
Follow the Service Pack installation steps in this guide to update web application components usingthe SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack installation program.
• If you have deployed SAP BusinessObjects web application components manually, updates mustbe applied manually after installing the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack.
For more information on manual deployment for web application components, see BusinessObjectsEnterprise XI 3.1 Web Application Deployment Guide.
• If you deployed SAP BusinessObjects web application components using the wdeploy tool, youcan apply updates manually or use the wdeploy tool after installing the SAP BusinessObjects EdgeBI Service Pack.
Instructions for the wdeploy tool are found in the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1Web ApplicationDeployment Guide.
If you deploy web components manually or using the wdeploy tool, you must first install the SAPBusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack to obtain the updated WAR files. The SAP BusinessObjectsWAR files are required for web application deployment.
For more information, refer to the wdeploy or manual deployment instructions in the BusinessObjectsEnterprise XI 3.1 Web Application Deployment Guide.
Note:If your SAP BusinessObjects system includes web components, you must update the web componentsas part of your Service Pack upgrade. It is required that all SAP BusinessObjects components, includingweb components, be at the same Service Pack level.
3.3 Saving web.xml file modifications
When a Service Pack is installed, the web.xml files for SAP BusinessObjects web applications thathave been deployed to a web application server are overwritten. This means that any customizationthat you have made by changing the web.xml files are lost after applying a Service Pack update.
2010-09-1320
Installation scenarios
If you modified a web.xml file for an SAP BusinessObjects web application and do not want to loseyour modification, you must make the modifications in the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI installationdirectory.
On Windows systems, this directory is <InstallDir>\BusinessObjects Enterprise12.0\warfiles\WebApps.
On Linux systems, this directory is <InstallDir>/bobje/enterprise120/warfiles/WebApps.
After you have applied the Service Pack, rebuild the affected .war files and redeploy the .war files tothe web application server.

You must have Administrator privileges on your Windows system to run an SAP BusinessObjectsService Pack installation.
In order to free resources on the system on which you are installing this Service Pack, it is recommendedthat you use the Central Management Console (CMC) to stop all of the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BIservers on the system before installing the Service Pack, with the following exceptions:• Server Intelligence Agent (SIA)• Central Management Server (CMS)• Input and Output File Repository Servers (FRS)• CMS system database
These services and servers must be running for the installation to proceed.
Note:
• Before you apply a Service Pack, if you have modified web.xml files for SAP BusinessObjects webapplications, see Saving web.xml file modifications.
• If you are updating a product that contains server components from SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI3.1, the installation setup program prompts you for information on your deployment's CentralManagement Server (CMS). This is required to update content that is stored in the CMS database, such as localized strings for server properties.
