Digital Twin
• Digital Twin is a digital representation of all physical and functional characteristics of a physical object (design, construction, logistics, operation, maintenance, budgets, schedules and much more)
• Serves as a shared knowledge resource for information about the ‘thing’/object during all phases (from planning to demolition)
• A Digital Twin can consist of many other Digital Twins
• Necessary foundation for collaboration
• Data needs to be collected and stored
• Communication between Digital Twins needs to be enabled
B(uilding) I(nformation) M(odeling)
• Digital representation of physical and
functional characteristics of a facility. A BIM
is a shared knowledge resource for
information about a facility forming a
reliable basis for decisions during its life-
cycle. *
• Will become mandatory in many countries
• Standard platform still missing
• Prep work to be able to use it is high
Business Networks
• Construction projects take place in
networks
• Large number of participants involved
(supplier, service provider, contractor,
owner, engineering partner…)
• Communication is inefficient
• Information/data kept in silos
• Everybody has his own ‘version of the
truth’ – danger of working on old versions
of project
Situation today – What is on the mind of Building Material companies
