    Dear parishioners,

Once we roll into the Advent season our Holy Father has called for a year of celebrat-

ing the Consecrated Life (Religious Life). Religious life has been one of the great gifts

to the Church throughout its history. A year dedicated to praying for our religious

brothers, sisters, and priests and for an increase in vocation will be a great way for us

to ensure that many new vocations will be heard to this way of serving Jesus Christ.

Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky said, Our brothers and sisters in Christ living consecrat-

ed lives make great contributions to our society through a vast number of ministries. They teach in our

schools, take care of the poor and the sick and bring compassion and the love of Christ to those shunned by

society; others lead lives of prayer in contemplation for the world.

Pope Francis proclaimed that this year would go from November 29, 2014 to February 2, 2016. Please send

me an e-mail with any ideas you may have on how the parish may celebrate the year of consecrated life. I

would love to hear from you.

Pope Francis in a meeting with superiors of religious life recently said: Religious life ought to promote

growth in the Church by way of attraction. The Church must be attractive. Wake up the world! Be witness-

es of a different way of doing things, of acting, of living! It is possible to live differently in this world.

    In Christ,

Social SecurityQuestion - Can parents ever qualify for Social Se-curity survivor benefits upon the death of theiradult child?

Answer - Yes, if certain conditions are met. Theparents must have relied on their adult child for atleast half their financial support, and they must beable to prove it. The parents must be at least 62,

and the deceased child must have earned Social Se-curity benefits through work. A surviving parentmust not qualify for a higher Social Security benefitbased on his or her own earnings history. If twosurviving parents qualify, each could get 75 per-cent of the deceased childs basic Social Security

Thanksgiving is coming and the St.

Vincent de Paul food pantry will be

giving out groceries to help members

of our community have a traditional

holiday dinner. Look for paper bags to be distribut-

ed after next weekends masses (November 8th &

9th). Each bag will have a list of suggested itemsattached to it. Fill the bag and return it to church

during any of the masses on November 15th or

16th. As we sit down to our bountiful

    Thanksgiving dinners, lets count

our blessing and remember that oth-

ers may not be so fortunate.

    Prayer Before an Election

Lord God, as the election approaches,we seek to better understand the issues and

concerns that confront our city/state/country,and how the Gospel compels us to respond as

    faithful citizens in our community.

We ask for eyes that are free from blindnessso that we might see each other

as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity,

especially those who are victims ofabuse and violence, deceit and poverty.

We ask for ears that will hear the cries ofchildren unborn and those abandoned,

Men and women oppressed becauseof race or creed, religion or gender. We ask for minds and hearts that

are open to hearing the voice of leaderswho will bring us closer to your Kingdom. We pray for discernment

so that we may choose leaderswho hear your Word, live your love, and keep in the ways of your truthas they follow in the steps of Jesus

and his Apostles and guideus to your Kingdom of justice and peace.

We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christand through the power of the Holy Spirit.

    Amen.
