Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time March 2, 2014
"Is not life more than food and the
body more than clothing?" The
anti-anxiety message Jesus gives
us today is not just ancient pop
psychology. Jesus is proposing
something much more profound.
He is teaching us how to eliminate
our fears altogether. This whole
reflection on worrying culminates
in the instruction to "seek first the
kingdom of God and his
righteousness." Jesus insists that
our heavenly Father will provide
for us, here and now. We only
need to take him at his word. That
means sticking to our part of the
bargain by putting God first. © 2013 Liturgical Publications Inc, LPI Resource Center.

Dear parishioners of Santa Sophia,
I invite you to meet Jesus in those we serve… the hungry, the homeless, the sick, and those imprisoned. How will you know them?
They are our neighbors who are alone and need our help. A family without work, seeking a Catholic education for
their children. People suffering very real and difficult circumstances, without food or a place to call home.
“You are the light of the world. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds,
and glorify your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:13-16
We are a vibrant Church called as disciples to serve the Lord and each other. Look around you and you will find any, many people in need. You can help make the light of Christ shine in their lives.
I invite you to make a sacrificial gift with courage and joy!

MARRIAGE AND FAMILY PROGRAM
Your ACA gifts help the Office for Marriage and Family Life provide programs and services to meet the needs of couples preparing for marriage and for marriage and family enrichment.
The Office for Marriage and Family Life helps organize and facilitate marriage preparation throughout our dio-cese, with the goal of catechizing couples regarding the covenantal relationship they are entering, equipping them with the necessary tools to thrive in their vocation, and supporting them throughout their married lives.
Over 1,500 couples attend these Diocesan marriage preparation programs annually and 2,038 couples were married this past year. Over 250 people take Natural Family Planning classes each year. Over 200 people have attended the newly offered relationship skills workshops in the past year. Your ACA gifts help the Office for Mar-riage and Family Life provide programs and services to meet the needs of couples preparing for marriage and for marriage and family enrichment.
“We shall be blessed with clear vision if we keep our eyes fixed on Christ... no trivialities can capture the atten-tion of anyone who has his eyes fixed on Christ...keep your eyes on Christ.”
~St. Gregory on Nyssa

The St. Vincent de Paul Society saw record numbers in January. Heads of 363 house-holds, consisting of 1,396 people, came in for groceries. Our service would not be pos-sible without the continued support of
Santa Sophia parish and the local community, including Panera Bread in Grossmont Center. Thank you all!
With the move to Prendergrast Hall, the pantry donation baskets got packed away, but they are now back in the form of new cardboard containers. They can be found near the kitchen area.
