Juniors or Community Colleges are universities that offer the first 2 years of the Bachelor diploma, Freshman and Sophomore years : you get an Associate degree (AA or AS), US State diploma equivalent to a DEUG or DUT (Bac+2), which grants you a 1-year work permit in the US as all American state university degrees do. To continue and get your Bachelor, you will have to transfer to a major university.

Many transfer workshops are held throughout the year. This is one of SMC's top priorities : to help SMC students to transfer to major universities. Several times a year during "transfer fairs", the major universities : CSU (California State University), UC (University of California), IVY LEAGUE (Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Princeton...) and top 100 USA come to Santa Monica College recruit their future students and offer, according to your results, scholarships for the 2 last years of your Bachelor.Top transfers for SMC students are UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Los Angeles & Long Beach State University.

Admission requirements : Interview (by phone) + 3 last quarter transcripts + English cover letter + Toefl iBT 45 minimum (IELTS Academic 5.0) + BAC (High School diploma, OIB, IB) If your English level is not good enough (Toefl iBT < 87), we offer many intensive English preps in California (San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles) for 1 to 6 months before your academic college entry.

You will start your academic year "Fresh Man Year" alongside the other American students ! You can choose to study between 100 majors, some of which allow you to try different subjects before you specialize, if you do not know how to orient yourself.
