Santa Barbara AIRPAC SQUADRON UNITED STATES NAVAL SEA CADET CORPS April 28, 2006 CMC RESCUE ASSISTS LOCAL SEA CADETS TO PREPARE FOR FLAGSHIP COMPETITION SANTA BARBARA, CA. On April 28, 2006, 11 sea cadets from Santa Barbara’s AIRPAC Squadron traveled to Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base. There they participated with 200 other regional cadets in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) Annual Flagship Competition. Flagship is an annual competition that enables sea cadets throughout Southern California to come together for a weekend of competition in Olympic-style events. These events are for male and female cadets between the ages of 13 and 17. The competition test the cadet’s seamanship skills including fire hose handling, stretcher carry, knot tying, line heaving, formation marching, ceremonial rifle drill and color guard drill. In the months of practice leading up to Flagship, the cadets found themselves in dire need of a stretcher in order to practice for the stretcher carry. That’s when CMC Rescue really came to the rescue. Approached by one of AIRPAC’s officers requesting the possible use of a stretcher, the response and support from CMC was overwhelming. “We had everything we needed except a stretcher for the stretcher carry event”, said LT Chuck Eskew, AIRPAC’s Commanding Officer. “CMC Rescue’s timely and generous gift of a stretcher really saved our bacon.” He continued, “Up till then we were practicing with a wood plank.” AIRPAC Sea Cadets with their stretcher donated by CMC Rescue of Santa Barbara. In the Navy, there are naval signal codes which are conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio. Bravo Zulu or ‘BZ’ is the code meaning "well done". The officers and cadets of Santa Barbara’s AIRPAC Squadron send a big ‘BZ’ to CMC Rescue. Well done CMC! For further information on AIRPAC Squadron, please contact the Commanding Officer, LT Chuck Eskew, at [email protected] , or call 805-901-0336.
