Pre –School Summer Camps
YMCA Preschool is camps are perfect for your little one. It
includes daily indoor and outdoor activities, weekly swim time
and weekly kids in the kitchen. The camp works on fine and
gross motor skills, kindergarten readiness and uses the YMCA
character values Weekly themes help children to discover each
topic in a fun and energetic way that your preschooler will
surely love.
Daily camp times: 7:30am-5:00pm.
All field trips are an additional $6.00.

Tot Spot is a play group that teaches new ways to improve gross and fine mo-
tor skills. Join the Y staff for an opportunity to meet others with young chil-
dren. Exchange ideas and take part in activities developing socialization and
other skills.

SCHOOL AGE SUMMER CAMP
YMCA Superhero Summer Camp will
look at what it takes to be a superhero to
our community. The YMCA character
values will teach school agers how to act
in our community. Our camp includes daily
swim time, which includes weekly swim
lessons. Our campers also have daily out-
door and indoor activities, daily crafts and
weekly kids in the kitchen. School Age
Summer Camp is a day camp that runs
Monday through Friday from 6:30am-
6:00pm.

Gentle Yoga - All Fitness Levels:
Gentle Yoga will move your whole body through a
complete series of seated and standing yoga poses.
Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of
seated and standing postures designed to increase
flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative
breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote
stress reduction and mental clarity.
Strength Training - All Fitness Levels:
Utilizing a variety of equipment, participants will sculpt,
tone, and strengthen muscles throughout the entire
body. Proper form and technique will be emphasized.
Total Fitness - All Fitness Levels:
Total Fitness is an effective, all-inclusive workout for
beginners through advanced participants. Using a varie-
ty of techniques, equipment, and class formats partici-
pants will improve strength, flexibility, balance, and
aerobic endurance.
Barre Above - All Fitness Levels:
The YMCA is excited to offer Barre Above! Barre
workouts are one of the most popular trends in today’s
fitness market. Barre classes blend the best of ballet,
strength, yoga and pilates. In Barre Above, exercises
are performed without the necessity of a barre, which
reinforces safety. Join personal trainer Laura Tyson for
Barre Above, an exciting and effective fitness class for
all levels.
Y-Step - Intermediate to Advanced Fitness Levels:
Steps of 4, 6 or 8 inches are used to provide partici-
pants with a heart-pumping, calorie burning workout.
Easily modified by performing exercises on the floor.
Zumba® - All Fitness Levels:
Zumba® is a fun and effective aerobic workout that
combines Latin rhythms to this calorie-burning, body
energizing fitness dance party!
Yoga - All Fitness Levels:
Yoga is a mat based class designed to increase flexibil-
ity, balance, range-of-motion and muscle strength. Par-
ticipants will be led through a series of flowing move-
ments that transition from standing to the mat. Relaxa-
tion and restorative breathing are included. Instructed
by Cindra Mielke, YogaFit Certified.
Boot Camp - Intermediate to Advanced Levels:
Boot Camp is a great workout for individuals that prefer little
to no choreography. A simple but intense class that will get
your heart pumping and strengthen your body.
Core Conditioning - All Fitness Levels:
Utilize a variety of equipment and your own body weight to
develop a strong and toned mid-section. Easily modified for
beginners, this class is ideal for those looking to improve
strength, balance, posture and flexibility.
Piloxing® - All Fitness Levels:
The PILOXING program uniquely blends the power, speed, and
agility of boxing with exhilarating dance moves, targeted
sculpting and the flexibility of pilates. These techniques are
supplemented by the use of weighted gloves, further toning the
arms and maximizing cardiovascular health. Put it all together,
and you have a muscle-toning, fat burning workout that will
make you feel physically and mentally empowered! That is PI-
LOXING® cardio– fusion.
Early Bird Fitness - All Fitness Levels:
Begin your day with an invigorating fitness wake-up call! Mon-
day-Step Circuit, Tuesday-Combo (Step, Hi/Low and Strength),
Wednesday-Group Cycling, Thursday-Combo (Step, Hi/Low and
Strength), Friday-Boot Camp.
Pilates - All Fitness Levels:
Tone and reshape your body through mat-based Pilates.
Exercises performed by participants center around the core of
the body—the abdominal, back, and buttock muscles. Through
flowing and controlled movements and breathing exercises,
participants develop muscle strength, muscle flexibility, and
muscle balance.
SilverSneakers® Classic - All Fitness Levels:
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of
exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of
movement and activities for daily living. Hand held weights,
elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers® ball are
offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated
or standing support.
Group Cycling - Intermediate to Advance Level
Combination of aerobic and interval work performed on
stationary bicycles located in the Fitness Studio. Easily modi-
fied for all fitness levels. Registration is required during the
five week session. If bikes are available, the drop in fee is
$3/class Y Member $8/Class Non-Member.

WATER FITNESS VIEW SCHEDUL
Fitness classes are FREE for YMCA Members except for Group Cycling. Community fees are $7 per class and
must be paid prior to attending the exercise classes. Group Cycling is $3 per class for members and $8 per
class for non - members and only applies when open bikes are available. Punch cards may be purchased in value
from $7 to $140.
Purchase a full card for $140 & receive one class FREE.
Aqua Aerobics—All Fitness Levels / Swimming Skills
Recommended: A fun, low-impact exercise class.
The water buoyancy reduces the amount of stress
placed on the joints, allowing movement with little
or no pressure on the body. Participants will get
their hearts pumping, strengthen muscles and in-
crease joint range of motion by using tools like wa-
ter noodles, water bells, and kickboards. The shallow
and deep ends of the pool are used for classes.
Aquanastics—All Fitness Levels / No Swimming Skills
Required: Aquanastics is an intermediate water ex-
ercise class. It includes exercises to develop cardio-
vascular strength, joint flexibility, muscle strength
and endurance, balance, and posture. This is a great
class for complete body fitness! Classes are held in
the shallow end of the swimming pool.
Arthritis Foundation (A.F.) Aquatic Program—Beginner to
Intermediate / No Swimming Skills Required: Gentle movements in
a heated pool help relieve arthritis pain and stiffness, while in-
creasing joint flexibility and range of motion. Led by Arthritis
Foundation and Aquatic Exercise Association certified instructors.
Deep Water Running—All Fitness Levels / Swimming Skills are
Recommended: Deep Water Running is a great non-impact way to
condition your entire body—utilizing water belts, participants
move through the deep end of the swimming pool increasing car-
diovascular endurance, muscle strength, endurance and flexibility.
Running belts are provided.
SilverSplash®—All Fitness Levels: Activate your aqua urge for
variety! SilverSplash® offers LOTS of fun and shallow water
moves to improve agility, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance.
No swimming ability is required, and a special SilverSneakers®
kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and coordination.
YMCA certified Personal Trainers:
ACE Certified Personal Trainer Cindra Mielke and ACSM
certified Laura Tyson will work with you to establish
personalized fitness goals, develop and supervise an
individual exercise program and motivate you to a
healthier tomorrow!
Register and pay for personal training at the Welcome
Center. All checks should be made out to the Sandusky
Area YMCA. Available to YMCA members only.

Youth Track & Field
Instructional and fun league designed for boys and girls
ages 4 to 18yrs. Athletes will participate in relay races,
sprints, long distance runs, and field events. Each age
division will have unique and age-appropriate events.
Meets will be held at area YMCA’s on Saturday mornings,
where the Sandusky Area YMCA team will compete
against other YMCA teams. There will be a weekday
practice on Tuesday or Thursday night. Each athlete is
responsible for their own transportation to away events,
although car pooling arrangements may be made.

Tae Kwon Do—Ages 5 and up: Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art that teaches students to utilize various parts of the
body for self-defense. The conditioning helps students develop discipline and promotes self-confidence. Class meets two
times per week. Instructor: Kim Dewey 419-357–5116. Participants will be required to purchase a uniform (approx. cost is
$30). Uniforms can be ordered directly from the instructor.

Martial Arts Sparring Training—Participants must be enrolled and eligible in the YMCA Martial Arts Programing:
This class is a light contact sparring class to develop those participants who are already enrolled in our current YMCA Mar-
tial Arts program. This class is light contact sparring. Only current eligible (gold belt and up) YMCA martial arts class par-
ticipants may attend. Participants must have their own safety equipment. This equipment can be ordered through Kim
Dewey, class instructor.

YMCA Sport Camps focus on improving sport skills through teamwork and friendly competition. There will be a variety of sports to choose from with each session lasting one week. Sports campers will be given the opportunity to learn and develop new skills, and play games. Each camp will have the following skills sessions, lunch, games, pool time, and free time. Snack and lunch are included.
Ages 2nd grade through 6th grade.
2015 Camp Themes
Volleyball Camp : Campers will learn and build on the fundamentals of volleyball skills in a fun and positive environment. They will focus on a different skill sets to help them learn the game. Instructed by: Basketball Camps: Campers learn skills which help improve shooting, passing, and dribbling. Individual drills will be held in the morning and team games will be played in the afternoon. Flag Football Camp: Flag Football Camp will focus on developing skills needed in football. Participants will learn to pass, receive, run effective routes, defend, and under-stand play calls. Games will take place throughout the camp. All Sports Camp: All sports from Football, basketball and baseball will be done through out this week.
Outdoor Mini Kickers
This is a great way to start out learning soccer for this
young age while having fun in a non-competitive
atmosphere.

GYMNASTICS
Gymnastics Camp
July 13 - July 16, July 20 - July 23 & Aug 17 - Aug 20
Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced Levels:
Gymnast must have completed kindergarten to participate. Each day will
be filled with instruction and practice in floor exercise, tumbling and
dance, uneven parallel bars, balance beam, and vault. A water bottle is
recommended. A sack lunch will be provided.
Preschool Gymnastics
Tiny Tots—Ages 18 months-3 years: This class is for boys and girls. A parent or caregiver must participate to
assist their child during this 30-minute class. The emphasis is on having fun while rolling, swinging, jumping and
the concept of waiting for a turn while becoming comfortable in the gymnastics setting.
Tumbleweeds—Ages 3-5 years: This class is for boys and girls. Parents or caregiver is not required to participate,
however, they are encouraged to assist their younger child in socialization. This is a basic developmental skills
class taught in a structured environment. Listening, following directions and cooperation in group situations are
stressed. Creative movement, forward rolls, a kick to handstand, a beginner cartwheel, balance beam and pre-
school bar skills are included for motor development.
Progressive Gymnastics
Pre Team—Age 6 and up and by instructor recommendation: Gymnasts continue building on skills and movements
from the previous level. Walkovers and skills with flight, round-offs, back handsprings, and front handsprings are
all emphasized. Increased strength and higher level of body awareness are required as well as a higher degree of
understanding instructions and paying attention to details
Tumbling—Ages 6 and up: This class will emphasize the floor event in gymnastics only. Correct body form in the
round-off, front & back walkover, handsprings and tucks are the main skills emphasized. Increased strength and
higher level of body awareness are required to be in this class.
Competitive Gymnastics
Levels 3—9 (Pre-team & Team): Gymnasts at this level have mastered Level III gymnastics skills in all events and
are ready to put the combinations into memorized routines. Pre-team (Level 3—not competing) and Team (Levels
3—9) have pre-season practices September through November, with the competitive season following. Competi-
tion is not
required for first year Level 3 gymnasts, although several positive opportunities are available. The YMCA Core val-
ues of Respect, Caring, Responsibility & Honesty are also emphasized along with teamwork and good sportsman-
ship.

to youth interested in cheerleading.

Swim Lessons
Children are taught the basic skills that are the
building blocks of swimming, plus pool safety, boat-
ing safety, use of personal floatation devices and
water games.

Parent / Child (ages 6mo—3yrs)
Builds basic water safety skills for both parents and
children, helping infants and young children become
comfortable in the water so they are willing and ready to
learn to swim. These basic skills include adjusting to the
water environment, showing comfort while maintaining a
front or back position in the water & demonstrating
breath control (including bubbles or voluntarily submerg-
ing under water)
Shrimp/Kippers
Intro to basic skills for parents & kids, including safety
topics.
Pre-School Swim Lessons
Young children ages 4 and 5 are given a positive,
developmentally appropriate aquatic learning experi-
ence that emphasizes water safety, survival and
foundational swimming concepts. Skills are age-
appropriate, helping participants achieve success on
a regular basis while in a class environment with their
peers.
Preschool Pike/Rays ages 4 to 5 yrs.
Helps participants feel comfortable in the water &
enjoy the water safely. Give participants success
with fundamental skills, such as floating and basic
locomotion. No parents in water.
Learn to Swim Levels
Based on a logical, six-level progression that helps
swimmers, 6+ years old and adults, develop their wa-
ter safety, survival and swimming skills. It is designed
to give participants a positive learning experience.
Polliwog = Level 1 ages 6yrs –17yrs.
INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS
Helps participants feel comfortable in the water.
Guppy = Level 2
FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS
Gives participants success with fundamental skills.
Minnow = Level 3
Builds on the skills in Level 2 through additional guid-
ed practice in deeper water.
Fish = Level 4 & 5
STROKE IMPROVEMENT
Develops confidence in the skills learned and im-proves other aquatic skills.
Swimmers interested in the US Masters Program
should join USMS.

Tsunami Swim Team: Ages 5—21: This program is
designed to introduce the sport of competitive swimming
as well as challenge those who have already participated.
The focus of this program is to build on fundamentals,
endurance, fitness and to challenge the swimmer against
their current abilities with an emphasis on setting goals
and achieving those goals. All levels including beginners
are encouraged to participate. Team members must be
YMCA members to compete at meets.
Requirements:
*5-8 year olds must be able to swim 25 meters
*9-19 year olds must be able to swim 50 meters

First session begins June 15th
Youth lessons are for ages 7 and up.
YMCA members receive a 20% discount: One week of 1/2 day lessons for begin-ners is $100.

Safety First - Life jackets are worn at all times when on or near the water. Kids need to be comfortable around the water, and able to swim.
Attire includes swimsuit and closed toed shoes as well as a towel, a change of cloths, a sweatshirt or light jacket, life jacket, hat and sunscreen

Jr. High Sports Conditioning
Stay in shape during your off-season. Sports
Conditioning will help athletes maintain and
improve their overall health. This is a group
exercise class that combines core conditioning,
strength training, interval work and flexibility.
Designed for youth 11-14 years old.

A Matter of Balance
A matter of balance emphasizes practical strategies to
reduce fear of falling and increasing activity levels.
During the eight week course, participants learn to
