1st Environmental Report Unveiled!

A launch event to showcase the gaming industry’s first ever third-

party checked environmental report welcomed sustainability

experts, company executives, and local and national media.

Event speakers, left to right: Michael Luehrs (President, Green Meetings

Industry Council), Katarina Tesarova (Executive Director, Global

Sustainability, LVSC), Chef Doug Taylor (Executive Pastry Chef, Batali &

The Sands Bethlehem team continues to improve the recycling program, resulting in a tremendous positive environmental impact. This has not gone unnoticed by city officials as per a congratulatory letter from the city’s Director of Recycling sent in July, 2012. The letter also commends Sands PA for its partnership efforts within the community.

The property has recycles everything from paper and plastics to wood pallets, kitchen oils, and electronic equipment. For example, in one month alone, Sands PA recycled 31 tons of cardboard, resulting in a savings of 527 trees, 127,100 kWh of energy, 217,000 gallons of water, 102.3 cubic yards of landfill space, and 1860 pounds of air pollution.

Monthly composition studies of their waste stream prove that less and less trash is included with recycling and more and more recyclables are being recycled. Congratulations to Fran Abuisi and his team for their progress!

Jim Fezel Presented with Green Award

When asked why Jim was selected for this award, the

response was simple: “Because he’s awesome.”

Jim Fezel, with Kim Grange (below), has been instrumental in leading the

charge for Sands ECO360° lighting projects on the Las Vegas campus. Not

only does he facilitate the identification of potential high-value projects,

but he also oversees the coordination and installation of the new lamps.

Efficient lighting is a major component in the overall energy reduction

plan across the globe. One project, such installing LED lamps in meeting

rooms, saves the property more than $400,000 each year.

Thanks, Jim, for being so awesome!

1st CDP Response Submitted

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an independent

group working to reduce carbon emissions and water use.

After months of extensive data collection and analysis, LVSC

registered 904,812 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent

(CO2e) for our 2011 CDP submittal.

We achieved the highest verification level in the category,

thus are pleased with the result! Going forward, we will

rotate verification among our properties worldwide to fully

validate our corporation’s carbon inventory.

Free Electric Vehicle Stations at V|P

By 2017, nearly every car company in the world

plans to release a hybrid or electric vehicle (EV).

Interest in electric vehicles, particularly among our

environmentally conscious guests, is growing rapidly. The

Venetian | The Palazzo recognized this trend and expanded

its EV infrastructure to include two new General Electric EV

charging stations in the third quarter of 2012. Located on

the sixth floor of the Venetian parking garage, these stations

complement the Tesla units already installed in the Palazzo

valet parking area.

All stations provide free electrons to guests and have

already garnered significant attention from the Electric Auto

Association and the Las Vegas Electric Vehicle Association.

Trees Planted in

Honor of Green TMs

Two interdepartmental competitions –

the Paper Cut Campaign and Hunger

Week Challenge – resulted in three

winning departments that planted

trees to commemorate their

contributions to these sustainability

events. The Paper Cut Campaign saw

the Revenue Optimization team

(pictured, looking dapper even while

working in the dirt) reduce their print

volume by 47% and International

Marketing reduce their actual print

volume the most by 110,000 sheets.

The Finance Non-gaming won the

World Hunger Week Challenge by

being the most influential department

in during the drive.

Congratulations to the winners!

Tree-Planting Event Attracts

High-Profile Attendees

In August, the Venetian Macao organized a tree planting

activity at the Ka-Ho Reservoir Lakeside Walk.

Mandy Martin (Global Sustainability Manager, LVS): Why did the Venetian Macao organize this event? Luisa Geraldes (Sustainability Director, SCL): We wanted to put our long-standing commitment to the environment into practice by doing some old-fashioned hard work together.

MM: Shoveling sure is hard work! Who attended? LG: We were lucky enough to welcome guests from a number of prestigious organizations, like the Environmental Protection Bureau, the Macau Ecological Society, the Macao SAR Government Environmental Consultative Committee, and the International Million Trees/Forest Project.

MM: What a group! What was the most fun part of the day? LG: Spending time outside was great – and meeting other people who have a strong interest in the environment.

2012 Solar Challenge Shines in Macao

The competition invites school teams to design, build, and race solar

powered model boats. Historically open to high school students, this

years’ competition also welcomed primary and tertiary teams.

Over 300 students gathered at the outdoor lagoon of the Venetian Macao.

Participants applied what they learned, specifically the fundamentals of solar

energy, boat performance and design, to build their own solar powered boats.

The purpose of the challenge is to raise awareness among local students and

educators of social and environmental issues, design and engineering science.

While sponsors, such as Sands China Limited, provided prizes for the winners,

the day was mainly filled with friendly competition, and having fun in the sun.

V|P Now Donates More Soap

than Any Organization on Earth

In July, the Las Vegas property surpassed Wynn

to become the top Clean the World partner.

Millions of lives are lost each year to acute lower-

respiratory infection and diarrheal illness. To help combat

this issue, LVS’ US properties partnered with Clean the

World, a non-profit that distributes recycled soap and

promotes proper hygiene practices around the world.

The Venetian | The Palazzo clinched the top spot by

donating 47,700 lbs. of soap from July, 2011 to July, 2012.

Huge congratulations to Margaret’s Housekeeping team!

New strategies for serving juice and toast continue to provide

the flavor without the added waste and energy use.

Pam Frebel, F&B Buyer at Sands PA, shows off the eliminated juice

containers, while Tom Worman lugs away an energy-sucking toaster.

In continued efforts to reduce food and beverage waste and energy use,

PA Team Member dining areas have adopted small changes that add up to

big savings. Pam spearheaded a project to do away with all half-gallon

orange and cranberry juice containers and replace them with vending

machine style dispensers. This eliminates the need to recycle the

containers, saving approximately $11,000 in purchasing costs alone.

Furthermore, seeing the Las Vegas properties benefit from removing

conveyer toasters, PA decided to follow suit. Replacing the 24 hour

toasters with the standard variety saves just under $3,000 per year.

This is just another demonstration of how both innovative thinking and

inter-property sharing of best practices can benefit everyone while

reducing the time needed for research and testing.

Events >>>

Apart from being the first annual Housekeeping Week at this

property, the occasion sought to celebrate the success of the

smooth opening of Sands Cotai Central.

A torch relay and opening dance show kicked off the

festivities, followed by a number of activities that showcased

sustainability. A corridor decoration competition saw teams

decorate recycled poster boards with other recycled materials

found within SCC. As seen above, a “Rock Star” photo shoot

challenged Team Members to craft instruments from recycled

materials. The Housekeeping Week celebrations ended with a

talent show with the winning performers donning costumes

made out of recycled duvet covers and bed sheets.

The event helped promote the importance of caring for the

environment and preserving natural resources, while

honoring the dedication and hard work that the housekeeping

department shows 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Thank-you to each and every housekeeping Team Member!
