HISTORY Born in Saint Ann's Bay, a village north of
Jamaica. Garvey was the son of a qualified owner of a large library builder. He was the youngest of eleven children, of whom only two reached maturity. He attended a Methodist school. He married twice. The first time, Amy Ashwood (from 1919-1922) and the second with Amy Jacques, with whom he had two sons (1922 until his death in 1940).

program in the vicinity of Jamaica, then a British colony far less developed than the US, Garvey left Jamaica in 1935 and died in London in 1940. In 1964, his body was returned to Jamaica, where he was declared the country's first national hero.

This Association adopted an attitude of hostility towards other races and peoples of the world, and also an attitude of self-respect, in favor of the Rights of Man 400,000,000 people of color in the world
