Projects:
1. Synthesis and characterization of environmentally accepted phenolic resins (free formaldehyde
content <0.1%)
Addition of reactive phenol derivative for quenching of unreacted formaldehyde.
Optimization of exotherm.
2. Next generation abrasive disc for metal and wood application
Introduction of active fillers at different layers.
Blending of grains with low hardness and fine micro structure.

Academic Details:
Master of Technology - Polymer Science and Technology 8.95 (out of 10) Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2012-2014)
Master of Science - Chemistry 8.28 (out of 10) Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad (2008-2010)
Bachelor of Science - Chemistry 66.4 (out of 100) The University of Burdwan, W.B. (2004-2008)
Higher Secondary (12th
) 73.1 (out of 100) W.B.C.H.S.E. (2004)
Madhyamik (10th
) 80.6 (out of 100) W.B.B.S.E. (2002)
W.B.B.SE
2. Removal of toxic metal ions from ground water and industrial waste water.
Arsenic, lead, mercury ions exhibit toxic effect above concentration 500 ppb.
Iron ore slime contains Goethite nano-particle (FeOOH) which can adsorb toxic metal ions.
3. Reduction of surface moisture from iron ore classifier fines.
Surfactant molecules adsorb on the surface of classifier fines through polar end.
Non-polar end repels the polar water (moisture) molecules.
Destructive Analysis: DSC, TGA, Particle size analyzer, Universal Testing Machine (UTM)
Non-destructive: FTIR, UV-Visble spctrophotometer, Goniometer, Stiffness Tester, Brookfield Viscometer
Reverse Analysis, characterization of abrasive products and phenolic resins by chemical and physical methods
Project Topic: Studies on processed rock fiber reinforced polypropylene composites.
Supervisor: Dr. Bhabani K. Satapathy
Abstract: In this recent work, mechanical, thermal, morphological and rheological properties of rock
fiber reinforced polypropylene composites have been studied. PP matrix was mixed with maleicanhydride
grafted polypropylene (PP-g-MA) and rock fiber. PP-g-MA plays a role of compatiblizer and strengthened the
rock fiber-PP interphase. Morphology of the fracture surface of composites was observed by scanning electron
microscope (SEM). Maximum addition of 25 wt% of rock fiber into PP matrix improves the tensile strength
and modulus by 23.7% and 22% respectively. Furthermore, measurement of crystallinity by X-Ray diffraction
(XRD) shows an effect of fiber content on overall crystallinity of the composites keeping the d-spacing
unaltered.

Project Topic: Transition Metal –Free Benzylic C-H Oxidation by using a Combination of BDMS
and hydrogen peroxide
Supervisor: Prof. A.T. Khan; Duration: May 2009 to June 2009 (2 months)
Abstract: Wide variety of cycloalkylarenes were selectively oxidized at the benzylic position into their
corresponding ketones in good yields on treatment with BDMS (bromodimethyl sulfonium bromide) and
30% hydrogen peroxide in DCM at room temperature. The formation of products were monitored by thin
layer chromatography (TLC) and separated by column chromatography. Finally, synthesis of expected
cycloalkylarenes was confirmed by IR spectroscopy, 1H-NMR and
13C-NMR.

Project Topic: Three component one pot syntheses of β-amino ketones catalyzed by Lanthanum Triflate
Supervisor: Dr. D. D. Pathak; Duration: January 2010 to May 2010 (5months)
Abstract: A wide variety of β-amino ketone can be synthesized from a combination of acetophenone,
arylaldehyde and arylamine in dichloromethane using lanthanum triflate as catalyst in inert gas atmosphere.
Three reactants were introduced in 1:1:1 ratio and 1mol% of lanthanum triflates added for catalytic activity.
Inert atmosphere was achieved by using nitrogen. A 65% to70% yield was obtained. Reaction mechanism
follows the Mannich type reaction path and β-amino ketones were characterized by Mass Spectroscopy .
