Over 160 yearslater, his most famousinvention, the lightbulb, still has an essen-tial place in the home.With often no morethan four hours of sleepper night and his per-sonal creed of, "Geniusis 1 percent inspirationand 99 percent perspi-ration," his work withelectricity is legendary. For all the work doneby Edison and his pred-ecessors, most peopleknow only as muchabout electricity as isabsolutely necessary togo about their dailylives; in other words,not very much. But ig-norance isn’t alwaysbliss. A little informa-tion can prevent shocksand reduce power bills.

Here are a handful oftrue/false questions totest your electrical IQ:1. If lights flicker ordim repeatedly, youshould call an electri-cian. TRUE. "Anytimeyou're getting flickeringor dimming lights,there is a problem andyou should call yourelectrician," said Dou-glas Sutton, Sr., presi-dent of Sutton Sidingand Remodeling inSpringfield, Ill. "Poweroutages due to powerline accidents, strongwind, storms or ex-treme heat can causebrief interruptions. Cus-tomers can call theirpower company to findout details on the situa-tion, or check their cir-cuit boxes for thoseoutages. But flickeringor dimming lights sig-nifies an overload, anda professional shouldbe contacted." Youshould also call yourelectrician if you areconstantly resetting cir-

cuit breakers orchanging fuses, smellburning electricity orneed to replace faulty

wiring. 2. It’s cheaper toleave fluorescent lightson when exiting a roomthan it is to turn themback on when you re-turn.FALSE. This is acommonly held belief,based on the erroneousnotion that fluorescentbulbs use a lot of powerto get started. While itis true that a compactfluorescent bulb doesrequire a brief surgewhen switched on, itworks out to be aroundthe same amount of en-ergy as five seconds ofnormal use, accordingto the EnvironmentalProtection Agency(EPA). So turning thelights off for more thanfive seconds will savemore energy than leav-ing them on.2. House wiring neverneeds replacing.FALSE. Dependingon the amount of use,insulation on housewires can becomefrayed or broken, creat-

ing a fire hazard. If youhave any doubts aboutyour wiring, have aqualified electricianperform a complete in-spection. Houses builtbetween 1965 and1973, in particular, areat risk because manywere built with alu-minum wiring, whichthe U.S. ConsumerProduct Safety Com-mission says is 55times more likely toreach “fire hazard con-ditions” than regularcopper wire. 3. A circuit breaker isnot designed to protectagainst a ground fault.TRUE. Circuit break-ers are designed to pro-tect against high levelsof electrical currentcaused by a short cir-cuit. Ground Fault Cir-cuit Interrupters(GFCIs) protect againstground faults, whencurrent leaking from anappliance goes toground through a per-son touching the appli-ance. Even a smallamount of current pass-ing through a personthis way can be lethal; aGFCI will trip if there’s

a ground fault, whereasa circuit breaker won’t.4. A two-parter: Com-puter screen savers saveenergy, and your com-puter will last longer ifyou leave it on all day,instead of shutting it offwhen you’re not usingit.FALSE AND FALSE.Screen savers only savescreens, not energy. Ifyou want to save en-ergy, turn the monitoroff. In fact, the EPArecommends you turnthe computer off, too, ifyou aren’t going to useit within a half hour.They claim the lifetimeof the hard disc is lim-ited by use, rather thanstart-ups.5. You can damage apower tool by using thewrong size extensioncord.TRUE. If your elec-tric lawn mower, hedgetrimmer, or leaf blowerdoesn’t get enoughpower, either becausethe extension cord istoo thin or too long todeliver it, it can damageand eventually destroythe motor. Also, over-loading an extension

cord can cause a fire orshock hazard. Be sureto use a cord rated toprovide the proper am-perage the tool re-quires, listed on thetool. The buyer shall be responsiblefor the payment of any excise ortransfer stamps required by law.

as reflected on the records of theMoore County Register ofDeeds not more than ten (10)days prior to the posting of this Notice was 212 LLC. This sale is conducted pursuant

to the provisions of N.C.G.S. §45-21.30, and this notice isintended to comply with therequirements of N.C.G.S. §§25-9-604 and 25-9-613 pro-viding for disposition of personalproperty in connection with theforeclosure of real property. TheGrantor is entitled to and mayrequest an accounting of the unpaid indebtedness.

Pursuant to North CarolinaGeneral Statutes Section 45-21.10(b), and the terms of theDeed of Trust, any successfulbidder may be required todeposit with the Trustee immed-iately upon conclusion of thesale a cash deposit of an amount not to exceed the greater offive percent (5%) of the amount of the bid or seven hundred and fifty dollars ($750.00).
