    SAND!

    Episode #6 Using TS&TF rules

    In this episode, our fictional hero Capt. Collenwood and his battered force (episode #5, issue July 1997)

    witness from a distance a sneak attack on an unsuspecting British outpost attempting to build a bridge

    across a river. Collenwood orders his men to fire volleys at the distant Zulus. The range is to far and no

    effect is observed, but the British outpost is alerted of the Zulu presence and is ready for the imminent

    attack. Collenwood’s troops are to far way and in no condition to give aid to the defenders. His troops can

    only watch as the Zulus attack the small outpost.

    British Forces:

    1x Commanding Engineer on foot (acts as C&C).

    1x Sergeant or other NCO.

    3x British infantry units (60 figures total).

    British forces must start in the area marked “British Staring Area” (see map below). At least one British

    unit must be placed on each side of the river. Within this area, the British get a few wagons, boxes, and 

    other items to construct a simple defense. Place a few tents on both sides of the river to represent the

    camp. The British players must set up their troops before the Zulu players place their troops on the gaming

    table.

    Zulu Forces:

    1x Foot Indiana (the overall commander) and 3x Zulu Ibuthos: each having 3x Zulu spear units and a foot

    Induna (61 figures total in each Ibutho). Any three of the nine Zulu units in the game may carry white

    shields (veteran Zulu units). Zulu forces my start anywhere on the board within the two areas marked 

    “Zulu Setup Area”.

    Victory Conditions:

    The Zulus must take out the British outpost. Any other result is a British victory.

    Special Rules:

    ♦ British infantry units ignore ammo rules. All Zulu spear units get only two rounds of throwing spears.

    Remember that Zulu units can only throw their spears if they charge their target.

    ♦ White shielded Zulu units add +1 to their morale chart. Critical/ Pinned rolls are nine with leader and 

    eight without leader.

    ♦ The rough terrain features are roughly 8”x5” and represent tall grass and thick brush. They can conceal

    only one unit at a time. The rough terrian will block line of sight and when firing at units in rough terrian,

    treat the target as a Class III target.

    ♦ Use standard river crossing for units trying to cross the river. The British troops along the river have not

    finished building the bridge. For scenario purposes, there is no bridge connecting the two sides of theriver.

    ♦ The hills can be represented by what ever is at hand and the table shown below is 9’ x 5’.
