Hi Everyone.

We have decided to change the format of the newsletter in order to make it easier for

everyone to read and to download the content. We trust you will approve of the

simplification. It will also be uploaded onto our Face Book page.

WHAT IS SPIRITUALISM?

Firstly, it must be said that those of us who follow a spiritual path are no different to any

other religious affiliation simply or because we believe in an afterlife and listen to guidance

and inspiration from a divine source. We acknowledge and pray to God as our creator and

seek guidance and counsel from that same source of creation.

We are not tied to a creed or dogma but accept seven basic principles, which are based on

inspiration from discarnate spirits. These act as guide-lines for the development of a

personal philosophy of how to live one's life. Because of this, liberty of interpretation is

given to all. These Principles are:

The Fatherhood of God

The Brotherhood of Man

The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels

The Continuous Existence of the Human Soul

Personal Responsibility

Compensation and Retribution hereafter for all Good and Evil deeds done on Earth

Eternal Progress open to every Human Soul

Study and observation of the world of nature, of the planet on which we exist and of the universe, lead to the inescapable conclusion that there is a force which has both created life in all its forms and the universe itself, and also keeps existence in a state of balance, allowing expansion, transformation and creation to take place. This force we term, for

want of a more explicit word 'God'. God has created life, so we speak of 'fatherhood', and because we all emanate from God we can speak of 'brotherhood'. This brotherhood, of course, embraces all forms of life, not just mankind, and brings with it rights and responsibilities in our relationships with fellow beings.

Matter cannot be destroyed; it can only change its form. Spirit equally cannot be destroyed, though its manifestation can and does alter. The creative force is eternal and so the individual is eternal, going through changes, death being one, that assists in development and progress. Death does not break bonds of love and friendship, so it is natural, not supernatural, for those who have 'died' to come back and try to help those they have known and loved while living on earth.

As Spiritualists we know we are part of the God force and cannot be separated from it. There are times when we make decisions which retard our progress, but we are never cut off from God. Therefore we never need salvation nor redemption. Through our own efforts, and with the assistance of those who care for us, we learn from all we do (good, bad or indifferent) and thus progress. We create our own 'heaven' or 'hell' by bringing about a state for our own mind and spirit which is happy and forward looking or miserable and retrogressive.

We progress more quickly when we observe the natural laws of truth, justice and compassion, and less quickly when our decisions are based exclusively on self-interest without caring for the progress of others.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Sanctuary held its AGM on 22nd April at which feedback was provided on activities over

the past year, the state of finances and the election of a new committee for 2012 – 2013.

events and obtain feedback

MEDITATION WORKSHOP

A successful meditation workshop was held recently with Liz Viviers on 21st April. It was

designed for those who struggle with meditation and provided practical guidance on how to

meditate, the breathing techniques that can be utilised to reach a more relaxed meditative

state as well as how to come out of a meditation to ensure that you remain grounded.

We aim to repeat this workshop and will keep you posted. If anyone is interested, please

contact one of the committee members.

Mother’s day: 13th MAY 2012

We would like to take this opportunity to thank and wish all Mothers; those who are still

with us, as well as those who are no longer with us, a very blessed and happy Mother’s Day

for Sunday.

“Mom's smiles can brighten any moment. Mom's hugs put joy in all our days. Mom's love

will stay with us forever and touch our lives in precious ways... I Love you Mom

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

A self important college student walking along the beach took it upon himself to stop and

talk to a senior citizen sitting on a bench.

The conversation eventually ended up with the student explaining why the older generation

would never understand the younger generation. It went something like this:

“You grew up in a different world, actually an almost primitive one.” This was said loud

enough so that other people nearby could hear. “The young people of today grew up with

television, jet planes, space travel, man walking on the moon, high speed computers, cell

phones and much more.”

After a while, the senior citizen responded, “You are right son, we did not have those things

when we were young......... so we invented them for your generation. So, what are you

doing for the next generation?”

The applause was amazing.

NOTICES

The Sanctuary has started a Collection Box for various items which we will package at

the end of the year into hampers and which will be donated to those in need. During the

month of May, we are collecting soap and ask that you donate a bar of soap by bringing

it along to Sunday services and place them in the box at the back of the hall.

There will not be any service on Sunday, 3rd June 2012 due to Comrades Marathon

which will affect access to the Sanctuary. As an alternative, why not attend a service at

Frere Road in the evening.

If anyone has a Book Case lying around and which can be locked, please contact one of

the committee members. We need it to store the Sanctuary Books so that they can be

made available to members.
