Some Greeks who had come to worship at the Passover Feast came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, "Sir, we would like to see Jesus."

Philip went and told Andrew; then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.

Jesus answered them, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.

Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.

"I am troubled now. Yet what should I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'?

But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name."

Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it and will glorify it again."

The crowd there heard it and said it was thunder; but others said, "An angel has spoken to him."

Jesus answered and said, "This voice did not come for my sake but for yours. Now is the time of judgment on this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself."

He said this indicating the kind of death he would die. (John 12:20-33)

As Jesus prepares for his upcoming passion and death, he acknowledges why he came into the world.

He came to preach the message of his Father and to glorify God.

Again, a voice from heaven proclaims Christ as his son.

We too must recognize Christ as the Son of God and the true ruler of this world.

As Christ sacrificed his life for our salvation, we too are called to sacrifice our petty wants and desires, resisting temptation, so that Christ draws us to himself

A new season of Women's Circle of Faith & Friendship has begun. All women of the parish are invited to explore this program, which has been described as a spa for your soul. Women's Circle is a peer ministry for women of all ages and stages of life, offering an opportunity to nurture our spirituality, deepen our faith, and build community.

This season we will be using a wonderful new resource by Liz Curtis Higgs. The Women of Easter: Encounter the Savior with Mary of Bethany, Mary of Nazareth, and Mary Magdalene. Take time this Lenten Season to experience Easter through the eyes of three women named Mary each of whom had a life-changing encounter with Jesus. Your mind and emotions will be engaged and your faith strengthened as each scene unfolds, preparing your heart for a richer, deeper experience of Lent and Easter.

This session will run through Tuesday, May 1. Meetings will be held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday mornings (9:30-11:30 AM) and evenings (6-8 PM). There is a $20.00 registration fee which includes the book and other resources. For additional information please email Lori LaFavre at [email protected].

The Baptism Ministry is looking for volunteers. If you are interested in helping prepare parents for the baptism of their children, your help would be appreciated. The key quality needed for the Baptism Ministry is a welcoming personality, as we are often one of the first contacts families have with the parish. The time commitment associated with this ministry is small. Currently, five couples share responsibility for small group gatherings at the church (2 times per year) and assist at Sunday baptism celebrations in the parish (2 times per year).

If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Aaron and Lori Harp at 949-713-9425 or [email protected].

Spotlight on Our Parish Schools Congratulations St. Junipero Serra Catholic School Students On March 9, two St. Junipero Serra Catholic students were recognized at the 19th Annual Chapman University Holocaust Art and Writing Contest awards ceremony for their outstanding writing.

Each year, SJSC submits one piece of student art and two student essays to the contest. This year, a photograph taken by Olivia Orellana was chosen as the SJSC art submission. Alexandra Hamm's essay, titled Justice in the Hands of Humanity, and Davin Maas's essay, titled Blueprint for a Better Society, were selected as our school's entries in the writing competition. Alexandra and Davin's

essays were chosen as two of the five finalists in the middle school prose category, and Alexandra's essay went on to be named the winner.

More than two hundred fifty middle and high schools-and some 7,000 students--from more than 30 states and 9 countries participated in this year's contest. This is not the first time the work of SJSC students has been recognized. Each year, two student essays are forwarded to Chapman University for the final round of judging. This is the fourth year in a row that both essays submitted were selected as finalists and that one of those essays went on to place first or second.

To have the writing of two current SJSC students recognized in a competition of this scope and caliber is exciting. It speaks not only to the quality of the students' work but also to the quality of the writing program we offer. Our program gives students a strong foundation that serves them well here at SJSC and beyond. Most importantly, though, the impressive work of these students speaks to the empathy and justice that the entire SJSC community--parents, faculty, and staff--strives to model every day.
