Sta ons of the Cross The Sta ons of the Cross will be held every Friday for Lent as follows:
April 7th-8:00pm
SAN FERNANDO CATHEDRAL SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS APRIL 2, 2017
Anima Chris Soul of Christ, Sanc fy me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O good Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds, hide me. Separated from you let me never be. From the malignant enemy, defend me. At the hour of death, call me. To come to you, bid me, That I may praise you in the company Of your Saints, for all eternity.
Anima Chris Alma de Cristo, san ficame. Cuerpo de Cristo, sálvame. Sangre de Cristo, embriágame. Agua del costado de Cristo, lávame. Pasión de Cristo, confórtame. ¡Oh, buen Jesus!, óyeme. Dentro de tus llagas, escóndeme. No permitas que me separe de Ti. Del maligno enemigo, defiéndeme. En la hora de me muerte, llámame. Y mándame ir a Ti. Para que con Tus Santos Te alabe. Por los siglos de los siglos.
Prayer to Jesus Christ Crucified My good and dear Jesus, I kneel before you asking you most earnestly To engrave upon my heart A deep and lively faith, hope, and charity, With true repentance for my sins And a firm resolve to make amends. As I reflect upon your five wounds And dwell upon them with deep compassion And grief, I recall, good Jesus , the words the Prophet David spoke long ago concerning Yourself: they have pierced my hands and Feet, they have counted all my bones.

The Caritas Corner “Through the grace of God and the generosity of the Caritas Fund I can now eat anything and be able to smile again. I cannot begin to tell you how thankful I am for this gift. It proves God is still in the miracle business with the help of his soldiers! May you all continue to bless someone else in need!” These were the tearful words of appreciation from a recent Caritas recipient – the Fund covered her $2,000 dental work. This is but one of several exam-ples of how we assist our sisters and brothers in need in our com-munity who deserve our help.
The Caritas – or “Charity” -- Fund is administered by the San Fran-cescani Society and funded through the second collection normally on the third Sunday of each month. Its purpose is to assist recipients – who through no fault of their own have fallen on hard times and have recognizable “one time” needs to help get back on their feet.
In addition to the once a month second collection, the Caritas Fund accepts individual as well as business donations. Donations can be mailed to: Henry Garcia, Treasurer, San Francescani Society, P.O. Box 782474, San Antonio, TX 78278-2474.
We are continually looking for additional brothers and sisters in need. Referrals can be made to Ron Bucchi, Society President, by leaving a message at the SFdP office at 210-227-0548.
Thank you for your continued generosity and support.
San Francescani Society

Please make check payable to Flowers by Grace. There are envelopes on the tables in the back of the church to order the lilies, please place envelopes in the collec on
basket or give them to me (Rose Marie). Your Loved Ones name will appear on a flyer on Holy Saturday Vigil Mass and Easter Sunday Masses. If you have any ques ons in regard to this ma er please feel free to contact me Rose Marie Pagonis 210-289-9887.
Not un l the thirteenth century do we find a men on of a locked tabernacle. There’s some evidence for eucharis c towers also, but o en these were in an obscure corner of the church, or even in the off-limits sacristy. Many of us grew up “making visits” to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, but it’s clear this would raise some medieval eyebrows in confusion! To the pre-sent day, the Eucharist is always reserved only in a side chapel in many cathedrals. The princi-pal focus in a cathedral is always on the altar, symbol of Christ, and on the cathedra, symbol of the pastoral ministry of the bishop.
In your parish church there is probably a “sanctuary lamp,” a permanently lit candle or oil lamp indica ng the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Some mes it’s in a red glass, not for any par cular reason except that it’s easy to find. There is a story of a bishop missioned to Papua New Guinea who was distressed to find no sanctuary lamps burning in his new diocese. The people pa-
ently explained that their churches were woven of grass, and that they decided to place a chief’s standard, a trident, in front of the tabernacle. That was a sign in their cul-ture that the “chief” was at home, like raising the flag over Buckingham Palace. The bishop, an Irish import, didn’t appreciate the Bri sh reference, so he ordered the candles back. The first church to burn to the ground was the cathedral, and a er two more, the chief’s tridents returned.
