READTHISPAGETHOROUGHLY!ThepurposeofArtsandDesignDayistoencourage4-H’ersintheirlearningandutilizationofcompositionanddesignprocessesinand/orfortheirprojectarea(s)ofinterest.Theemphasisthroughoutthiseventwillbe“learning”.Pleaseencouragememberstosharewhattheyhavelearnedandtolearnfromothers.EntryGuidelinesandCriteriaAllDivisionsareopentoall4Hmemberswhetherparticipatinginthatprojectornot,exceptTraditionalClothingConstructionandtheSeeIt,SewItChallengewhichrequiresmembersbeinasewingproject.Allentriesmusthavebeenstartedinthecurrent4-Hprogramyear.Ifitemisnotyetcompleted,itwillbeconsidered“inprocess”butwillremainanentryintheappropriatecategory/divisionfortheproject,withtheexceptionofaFashionRevueentrynotyetcompletedwillbemovedtoCreativeArts&Crafts,OtherSewing&Textilesdivision.Membersmayenteritemsiftheyarenotmadeina4-Hproject,however,schoolprojectsarenotacceptabletoenter.Allentriesmustbeingoodtasteandsuitableforfamilyandpublicviewing.Entrieswhicharedeemedvulgar,dangerousoroffensivewillbedisqualified&/orremoved.

Groupentriesmustlistthenameandageofeachgroupmemberonregistrationform.Theageoftheoldestgroupmemberwilldeterminetheageclassforentry.

Eachgroupmemberisexpectedtoparticipateintheinterviewwitheachsharingat leastoneprocessoftheproject.Membersmayenteramaximumof4entries(AnyDivision). Inaddition,anyonemayenterthe "challenge" entries, which are chosen by the state, and may go on to state levelcompetition.Entrysizeguidelines3-Dimensional work maximum size: 36”x 36"x 36". Larger items may be displayed withphotographs,designdrawings,patterns/plans,etc.ondisplayboardper criteria listedbelow.Itemsthatcanbefoldedordismantledtofitwithinsizeparametersmaybedisplayedinsucha

fashion for general display and may be unfolded or assembled to full size for personalinterview.DisplayBoardsandPostersmaximumsize:36”x48”horizontalorvertical.DressGuidelinesParticipantsinjudgedeventswillbeevaluatedonhowtheypresentthemselvesaswellaswhatthey present. For this reason, it is important that members are dressed appropriately andneatly for thearea theyare involved. Thebelowguidelines fordressare recommendedandencouraged.•FashionRevueShow–participantsmodel itemscreatedwith(ifneeded)additionalclothingandaccessoriesthatcoordinateandenhanceentry.• Favorite Foods Contest – if presenting an entry with a theme, participants may dressaccordingtothethemeforpersonalinterview.Otherwise,follow“Interview”guidelinesbelow.•Interview–forpersonalinterviewsinallareas,recommendeddressis4-HUniform(whitetopandbottomwith4-Hscarfortie)or“Professional”attire(i.e.dress,skirtandblouse,slacksanddress shirt, etc. – shirts andblouses tucked in – suits, jackets, sweaters, ties andaccessoriesoptional)Safety,SupervisionandConductWewanttoadviseparticipantsandfamiliesattendingthatwhilethiseventisbeingheldinthemulti-purpose room, everyone must be on our their most courteous behavior and respectfacilityrulesthatmaybeposted. Pleasetakesafetyprecautionsand insureyoungerchildrenaresupervisedatalltimes,especiallyintheoutdoorareas.ElectricityAvailability:Duetotheexpansionofthiseventwerealizetheremaybeanincreaseneedforaccesstoanelectricaloutlet.Toinsureavailabilityandaccesstoelectricity,pleasebesuretoindicateyourneedonyourregistrationformandpleasebringyourownextensioncord.EvaluationandJudgingCriteriaEntrieswillbejudgedinterviewstylewithanemphasisonwhatthememberhaslearnedandhowtheknowledgehasbeenappliedtotheirproject.

Memberswillbeevaluatedontheirpresentationandinterviewskills.(Wellgroomed/dressed,speaksclearly,abilitytoverbalizeallstepsofproject,etc.)

Memberswillbeevaluatedontheirdisplay(neatness,representationofprojectandprocesses,etc.).

All judgedcategories/divisionswillbejudgedinterviewstylebyonetotwojudges. Memberswillbeevaluatedontheirpresentationskills,theirknowledgeofprocessesandtechnicalskillsfor specific project. Members’ age, years in project and complexity will be taken underconsiderationforevaluation.TheJudgingsheetsareincludedinthispacket.Theyillustratewhatjudgeswillbelookingfor.Pleasereviewtoprepareforinterviews.

Primarymemberswithentriesinjudgedcategorieswillbeinterviewedandevaluated,butwillnot be competitively judged. There will be wall space, as well as display cases, available and all 4-H members are encouraged to participate. The exhibit runs April through May and entries may come from the San Diego 4-H Art & Design Day or any other 4-H project or event, no living entries please (animal or plant).
