Audience Feedback

To help me draw up an evaluation for our music video, I have gathered more audience feedback by asking 5 friends to answer 7 questions on our music video. I did this by sending each of them a link and list of questions over Facebook.

On separate slides I have summarised the answers I gathered for each question.

How is this product typical of music videos?

The majority of my audience sample felt that the product was typical of music videos as there are many different clips and locations in the music video, and that each clip changes with the beat of the music.

Another answer which was repeated in my feedback was that there is a protagonist performer who sings the lyrics in the video. Corresponding to this some of the sample felt that the locations chosen in the video, as well as Taylors actions were typical of music videos as they linked to the lyrics in the song.

Does anything make it different or stand out from the typical music video?

The fact that we have shown the out takes from our filming at the end of the music video, is what my audience found was different from other music videos they had seen.

One of my audience sample also felt that the amount of different locations in our video made it stand out from others, however they did not see this as a negative point.

By using the tape clips before the song began as well as after the song finished, is another factor some of my sample felt was different and unique about our music video.

Does it work? Why?

Many of people who took part in my audience feedback did not understand this question. However a couple of answers I gathered were that the clips and chosen locations correspond to the lyrics, and that there is a main performer ‘telling us her story’ by singing the song.

Name two interesting/impressive elements from the video?

The use of green screen in two of our locations, was a popular answer to this question, as they felt it looked professional and industry standard.

Another impressive element many of my sample agreed on was the section of our video when ‘there are 3 Taylors on the screen at the same time!’. They thought this was unique, different and very impressive.

The split screen and timing of the split screen was another element of our music video which people felt was impressive.

Could this product be stronger- if so how?

Nearly all of my sample felt that the video could be stronger by perfecting the timing on a couple of clips where the lip sync was slightly out. Others felt that some of the clips were repeated too much, and they would have liked a greater diversity between the chorus’.

Do you think the pace of the video is typical of this kind of product?

All of my sample thought that the pace was correct for music videos, and especially for this genre. This is because the song was upbeat at the chorus’ and slightly slower during the verse’s, and my audience felt that the pace of the clips changed with the pace of the song.

Can you tell the genre of this music video?

The overall answer to this question was ‘pop’, however there was a couple of variations of this such as ‘indie-pop’, ‘electro-pop’ and ‘dance/pop’.

The audience felt that they could tell the genre of the music video due to the beat of the song, clothing and look of the performer, lyrics sung and the vibe/atmosphere the song created.

My response to the audience feedback

I am very pleased with my audience feedback, and I feel I have learnt a lot from carrying this out. The amount of factors which people felt were unique and impressive about our video were great to hear, as it is very reassuring when your audience like the product you’ve created. It was also good to hear the factors my audience felt could be improved about our video, such as the pace of a couple of clips and repetitiveness of others. Although we were already aware of these negative points to our video, it is now clearer to me that these are two points I would change in our video if I had the chance. Overall my participants gave positive feedback to our music video, which I am very pleased about.
