Ashford Castle 5* Cong, Co. Mayo
www.ashford.ie
Ashford Castle in the heart of the Connemara region, is just one and a half hours from
Shannon airport, on the northern shores of Lough Corrib. The countryside around it provided
the scenery for the John Wayne classic, “The Quiet Man”. Ashford Castle was selected as the
best hotel in Ireland in the 1989 and 1990 Egon Ronay Guide. The original Castle dates back
to the 13th century. It has been splendidly restored with rich panelling, intricately carved
balustrades, suits of armour and masterpiece paintings. This year the hotel has undergone
major refurbishment and is looking stunning.
There are 83 rooms in total in the castle offering 5* luxury. Ashford boasts two gourmet
restaurants;
The “George V” dining room offers traditional and continental menus, while “The Connaught
Room” specialises in acclaimed French cuisine. There is bistro style dining available in
“Cullens”.
Set in over 300 acres the grounds of the Castle are ideal for sporting activities such as golf
(own 9 hole golf course) /horse riding/ fishing and clay pigeon shooting.
Ashford has discovered the secret blend of combining the splendour of the past and luxury of
the present in the legendary land of Ireland.
Ashford Castle is 3 hours drive from Dublin airport & 1.5 hrs from Shannon airport
The hotel is 40 mins drive from Galway.

elegant hotel that epitomises the grandeur of a past age yet meets every modern comfort
and amenity. The hotel now boasts 150 bedrooms, swimming pool, leisure centre, cellar bar,
residents’ bar, 2 restaurants, one of which has Ireland’s only 2 Michelin stars, and elegant

DUBLIN CITY 5* BEST CITY LOCATION

SHELBOURNE HOTEL 5* City Centre Prestige & Tradition
www.marriott.com/dubbr
The Irish Constitution was drafted here and the recent brief closure of this opulent
18th-century hotel overlooking St Stephen's Green (Europe's largest garden square)
has served as a reminder to Dubliners that it is still central to life in the city today.
Ranking among the world’s great hotels, it has emerged from its recent restoration
and refurbishment with all the old grandeur intact, and the entrance creates an
even stronger impression since the lift has been relocated to allow the original
staircase to take pride of place once again in the magnificent faux-marble entrance
hall – now also enhanced by the creation of a new reception area.
The Lord Mayor's Lounge – always a popular meeting place for Afternoon Tea - has
had a light hand in the renovation and the famous Horseshoe Bar, renowned as a
meeting place for local politicians and theatrical society and nothing short of a
Dublin institution.
Dining choices are between the stylish, No. 27 Bar & Lounge, and the opulent Saddle
Room.

Afternoon “Galway Treasure Hunt” or time for shopping / walking tour of the city
Galway, city of the tribes and The Western Capital of Ireland is worth a visit A colourful

mythology.

---
Alternative ideas which we can arrange at or near Ashford instead of heading to Galway
“Supercar” experience - McLaren 650S, Ferrari F458 and California, Lamborghini Huracán &
Jaguar F Type V8S

Consider doing a short scavenger hunt? Cookery Classes with “Celebrity Chef”

EVENING PROGRAMME:
Option 1 -Informal Celtic Evening “ Craic & Ceoil” (Fun & Music) – Irish Pub
We hit a local pub tonight and put on our Irish dancing shoes! Enjoy a simple 3 course
traditional dinner with live Irish music Song & Dance as an accompaniment. The evening is
rounded off with learning “a few steps” and an Irish “Ceili” (dance evening) – guaranteed lots
of laughs and great fun. A night to remember.
The menu will be written in Gaelic with some pictorial clues as to the meaning! The dinner
opens with a short Irish Lesson, then between courses the traditional musicians will give a
display of Irish instruments, the local dancers will teach some simple Irish dance steps. At the
dessert stage the full “Ceili” will start with lessons for the group followed by active participation
and above all lots of “Ceoil agus Craic” (Irish for Music and good fun)
Great branding opportunity – room gift? – we customise a “bodhran” (Irish hand drum) with
the logo of the company.
Option 2 – Dinearound in Galway City
Divide the group up into smaller groups and make dinner bookings in some of the following
mix of restaurants in Galway (Coach transfer to Galway City – 40 mins)
The Chop House (previously the Malt House )
Kirwans Lane (if not used for lunch)
Nimos
McSwiggans
The Quays
Day 3 - SIGHTSEEING – Incentivised with some novel branding ideas and highlights
There are a variety of sightseeing options ex. Ashford. We can “incentivise” the trips in various
ways e.g. by arranging impromptu stops for Champagne reception near the Cliffs of Moher or
on the Aran Islands, having special branding opportunities ( Your company name on a sheep!
) and private boat trips, exclusive lunches in private castles and award winning country
houses.
12
Option 1 – Connemara - known to American clients as “The Quiet Man” Country (the famous
film with John Wayne was filmed here)
Morning private Boat trip on Lough Corrib which departs from the lake side at Ashford Castle
Learn the true art of Irish coffee making with a tasting of course! And enjoy the breathtaking
scenery
The boat can drop off on the opposite side of the lake where your coach transportation will
be waiting to take you a short distance to your magical lunch venue Ross Castle:
Lunch at Ross Castle in Moycullen
Ross Castle is the private home of George and Marshall McLaughlin. With special permission
We can arrange for your VIPs to have lunch.
After lunch continue by coach through the wild romantic scenery of Connemara
Along the way we will arrange a few “surprises” :
“hands on” Turf Cutting and turf stacking!
Or
13
How about a special branding opportunity of having the company name on some sheep
which by surprise! block the coach on one of the bog roads in Connemara.
Time permitting include a visit or photo stop to Kylemore Abbey a former Benedictine
convent boarding school located magnificently in breathtaking scenery. (touristy! But in all
the guide books and a wonderful location )
Late afternoon arrive back to Ashford Castle with time to freshen up
14
Option 2 – Cliffs Of Moher
The Burren
A scenic day tour to the famous “Cliffs of Moher”, 200m of sheer cliff falling into the Atlantic
ocean.
Nearby we arrange an impromptu Champagne Reception served by our Butler in full livery!
Lunch en route the award winning country house „Gregans Castle“
Time permitting we can arrange some activities in the grounds of Gregans after lunch –
consider
Premium Whiskey Tasting – a specialist whiskey expert shares the history & secrets of Irish
Whiskey Opportunity to compare three different premium Irish whiskeys
r
15
Croquet on the lawn
Or
“Bodhran workshop”
Return late afternoon to Ashford Castle
Option 3 - Aran Islands (Full day with early dept. / arriving back late afternoon 18.30 hrs)*
*a long day – about 1 hour drive to the ferryport oneway)
The Aran Islands are the most Westerly isles of Ireland and a visit here is like stepping into 19th
century Ireland with Gaelic still being spoken as mother tongue and the old traditions of a
fishing community being practised to this very day.
A boat trip from Rossaveal brings us to Inish Mor the largest of the Aran Islands where minbuses
bring the group for a guided tour of the island’s historical monuments, thatch cottages,
unique landscape and miles of stone walls. The highlight of the trip is a visit to the pre historic
16
fort of Dun Aenghus situated on a 200 foot high cliff overlooking the Atlantic ocean. A
seafood lunch will be served at the Dun Aenghus restaurant during the day’s trip.
As for the Connemara day/ Cliffs of Moher day we can arrange for Champagne Reception
and turfcutting / sheep branding!
Return to Ashford late afternoon
Time to relax and freshen up before your farewell dinner programme at the Castle
EVENING PROGRAMME:
“SEANACHAI” Dinner in the George V Restaurant
The most elegant dining area at Ashford Castle is the
George V Restaurant, however it does not allow for
stage build (or perhaps a very small stage). For this
reason we recommend a “Seanachai”(Irish Storytelling)
evening as the highlight.
Irish Harpist - to play background through early stages
of dinner
Highlight after dinner an award winning “Seanchai” –
An internationally acclaimed Irish Storyteller will have the group enthralled with his repartee
and wonderful stories.
Additional Acts which can be brought from Dublin or elsewhere to Ashford :
Graffiti Classics The “Alternative” String quartet – wonderful and not quite what the clients will
be expecting from a string quartett – superb artists with humour.
OR
The „Keynotes“ - Barbershop type quintet of you goodlooking Irish singers – tablehopping,
superb entertainment. Again with a touch of comedy interwoven.
17
------
OR Alternative Exclusive dinner Venue (if not used for lunch on day 2 ) Ross Castle
ROSS CASTLE
Magnificent Georgian style house dating back to the 19th Century. An ideal venue for a
special evening in the Summer months.
Entertainment – as for Ashford above as limited space for stage
Note – it is likely Ashford would insist on the guests dining at the hotel on nights out of 3 night
stay and on that basis if the client wanted to feature Ross Castle for an evening event they
might have to offer this arrangement on day 2.
18
Day 4 – Ashford Castle to Dublin’s Fair City
From West to East that’s how the story goes today as we travel via Galway city across the
agricultural plains of Ireland. Lunch is an “Insider Tip” in the magnificently located “Wineport
Lodge” overlooking the famous Shannon river
Wine Port Lodge on the banks of Ireland’s longest river
Continue Eastwards with a stop at Locks Whiskey Distillery
Arrive into Dublin - Ireland’s Capital city late afternoon:
A Georgian city famous for its literary figures such as James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw and
Oscar Wilde - the humour of the Dubliners is well known . The modern-day Irish are well known
for music - the rock band U2, the Corrs, the modern Celtic show Riverdance. A mixture of old-
world elegance, folklore and modernity makes Dublin a fascinating trendy place with great
food, shopping and nightlife.
Dublin offers all the fun and culture of a capital city and is only 30 minutes’ drive to the wild
and rugged landscape for which Ireland is so famous. Located on the coast, the programme
can include some time on the water and offers beautiful sea views
19
Relaxed informal welcome dinner in the Dublin hotel after the travelling today
Day 5 Dublin’s Fair City
Morning At leisure – Discover Dublin on the “Hop On / Hop Off “ Bus or your guide will give you
all the insider tips for shopping
Lunch together at the wonderful Church restaurant in the heart of the city - yes a converted
historic Church - now a trendy bar and restaurant.
The former St. Mary's Church of Ireland is one of the earliest examples of a galleried church in
Dublin. Built at the beginning of the 18th century, it boasts many outstanding features, such as
the Renatus Harris built organ and spectacular stained glass window. Arthur Guinness was
married here in the 1750’s….
20
Afternoon – “Sign Up” Dublin activities” A few ideas to consider:
Walking tour of Georgian Dublin with visit to the famous Book Of Kells and the National gallery
of Art
Viking Dublin Tour
We suggest an “alternative” discovery of Dublin’s Fair city with a Viking Splash Tour which is a
truly unique experience on land and water which combines authentic World War II amphibious
vehicles – the DUKWs – with an imaginative and exciting Viking-themed tour. The guests will
experience an unanticipated, enjoyable and informative experience which is unrivalled in
Dublin City.
Literary Pub Crawl
Dublin is after all the Unesco City of Literature but you don’t need to be too high brow to
enjoy the humorous, entertaining Literary Pub Crawl which is an alternative walking tour led by
actors who will regail you with stories and works by the great Dubiln writers - Oscar Wilde,
James Joyce, Georg Bernard Shaw, Brendan Behan - includes visits to some typical Dublin
pubs!
Cycle Safari
Discover Dublin Bay by bike!
21
Or Some TEAMBUILDING Ideas for that group spirit:
Record a CD in U2’s Recording Studio - great “together feeling” –
OR
THE IRISH BOOTCAMP
We invite you to take part in the “Irish Bootcamp” programme (duration 1.5 hrs):
Listen, Learn, Take Part…Irish Songs – Stories – Dancing – Bodhran-Pull a Pint!....
The Traditional Irish Boot Camp Experience is an afternoon of fun
and activity where you learn and experience Irish songs, stories,
Irish Ceili Dancing and the Bodhran at first hand. Our Dancing
Instructor will teach you the basic steps and choreograph a fun
Irish Dance, we then teach you the pulsing high energy rhythm of
the Bodhran which we guarantee you will be able to play. For
the finale we all “Jam” live with a powerful rhythm section. This is
not too strenuous and great fun.
22
EVENING PROGRAMME:
Option 1 - Dine Around - Dublin offers a superb range of restaurants from Michelin Star fine
dining to more relaxed Bistros & traditional pubs. Your guests decide!
Option 2 – “ A Night at the Dogs” – Greyhound Racing
Great branding opportunity – sponsor a race in the company name!
A relaxed “Irish evening”. A suggestion for tonight could be to join up with the local Dubliners
at a “Night at the Dogs” – Greyhound racing - possibility of having dinner while enjoying the
thrill of the races. We would hire out a corporate suite on one floor for the group from where
they have great views of the race track. Bets can be placed at the tables while dinner is
being served and enjoyed. The group is encouraged to go down to the public areas to soak
up the atmosphere.
Day 6 WICKLOW DOWN ON THE FARM – Super Teambuilding / fun and Branding!
We head for the hills and the wonderful scenery of County Wicklow – the Garden of Ireland
Our destination - the “ Orchard (Baileys ) Farm” - an original authentic farm whose cows
produce the milk for the famous Irish drink Baileys.
Team Building “Irish olympics”– Duration 2 hours
Guaranteed laugh and an excllent hands on introduciton to the old Irish Games. We head
out of Dublin the the nearby county of Wicklow – often referred to as “the Garden of Ireland”
Super branding opportunity – Write yourcompany logo /name in bales of Hay !
23
Or how about “BUILDING A BAILEYS COW”!
We provide you with all the materials (Black & white balloons.....etc. etc. ) – may the best Cow
win...
Catering at the farm... delicious tea and homemade scones on arrival, tasty BBQ with organic
ingredients for lunch.
The Orchard Baileys Farm is an unforgettable experience.
GALA /FAREWELL EVENING:
Dublin offers a wide range of venues for your special farewell /gala evening depending on
the style of the event.
For a VIP American clientele we can recommend any the following:
Option 1 TRINITY COLLEGE – historic- located in Dublin city centre Formal Gala or “Harry Potter”?
Trinity College was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I of England. It was considered a sister
university of Oxford & Cambridge and it boasts Dublin’s finest Georgian architecture.
24
Trinity houses the world famous Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript dating from the 8th
century. The Dining Hall, designed by Richard Cassels and completed in 1761, has a
magnificent Portland stone floor and oak panelled interior. We will also use the Atrium,
adjacent to the Dining hall, which has galleries at three levels enclosing a quarry-tiled
courtyard.
There is no shortage of entertainment options in Ireland. The Irish love to party and have
“the craic” (Gaelic word for fun!). A Touch of Ireland has contacts to the highest caliber
of entertainers in all areas from pure traditional to high- brow classical as well as party
dance bands. Some clients have chosen to go down the route of “Harry Potter” theme!
For your American guests we will recommend a flavour of all things Irish to include Irish
harpists as background, lively pure traditional music for informal evening and then a
showcase of the best Irish talent for their special closing dinner. Depending on the venue
chosen we could suggest a theme such as “A Journey through Celtic Ireland” - Ireland’s
history told in music and dance. This could include a performance from the world famous
Celtic choir “Anuna” and the evening could finish off with a rousing Riverdance
performance.
25
------ Option 2 - THE GUINNESS STOREHOUSE - Contemporary Modern Ireland - more informal Location – Dublin city centre
Modern contemporary style of venue. Built in 1904, the new Guinness Storehouse is an
incredible building. Its massive cast iron beams originally supported the weight of vast vats
filled with Guinness in various stages of brewing. Its core is a vast giant glass pint stretching
up from the reception at ground level to the Gravity bar in the sky on the top floor.
Entertainment as for Trinity or for a more modern contemporary flavour how about the
amazing. U2 Tribute band „Rattle & Hum“... close your eyes and you are listenting to U2!!
Plenty of room for bopping the night away.
Note: Your choice of gala venue in Dublin may depend on your final group size. The above
venues are more suitable for groups from 80 pax + and both require a minimum payment for
100 for catering.
A smaller exclusive venue (max. Capacity 72 pax ) would be:
26
Option 3 – NUMBER 10
www.no10dublin.com
“Number 10” as it has become known is a little bit of an insider tip. This is a beautiful 18th century
Georgian House which has been painstakingly restored by its owner and is now open to
corporate groups for gala dinners.
On arrival guests are welcomed in the hall, coats are taken and then they are ushered up to the
Drawing room and Library on the first floor for welcome drinks. There is an impressive collection
of art which adorns the wall.
Dinner is served in the dining hall on the ground floor (capacity 80 pax)
Entertainment can be anything from an Irish harpist, ballad group, Irish dancers, singer/guitarist,
classical group and so on
n
OR
Option 4 – LUTTRELLSTOWN CASTLE – Private House Party! - 20 mins from Dublin city
A hidden gem, formerly home to the Guinness family. This is an ideal location for that “private
House party” feeling.
Note if Luttrellstown were chosen the space does not allow for a stage build for and Irish
dancing display. A harpist through dinner and Anuna as a showcase would work fine.
Day 7 – SLAN! (Farewell)
Direct transfer to Dublin Airport - programme depends on flight departure time.
27
Additional Programme Enhancements
Add in additional ideas to spice up the programme ... motivational speakers eg. Everest
Climber & Explorer Pat Falvey or the International sports Rugby Star Brian O’Driscoll /
Celebrity TV chefs .....
VIP / EXCLUSIVE TOURS
Leixlip Castle – home of Lord Desmond Guinness
Private homes Cookery Classes Old Timers
Depending on the size of the groups we are sure that the spouses would appreciate luxury
and VIP visits. A Touch of Ireland can arrange special “insider tours” and has contacts to
private homes such as the Right Honourable Desmond Guinness at Leixlip Castle. Other
possibilities include privileged access to private designer gardens, cookery classes with TV
celebrity chefs, themed walking tours and excursions by Old Timer cars.
In addition to sightseeing Dublin offers a wide variety of sporting activities such as golf on
championship courses, horse riding and fishing or the guests may enjoy learning how to play a
special Irish hand drum called “Bodhran”...
“Bodhran workshop” Golf
28
Branding Opportunities – a few ideas!
Banner or company flags displayed throughout the programme – from Castles / Private Boats ....
Also at venues where plasma screens can display Jpeg imagery or corporate videos (eg. At the Guinness
Storehouse )
Coaches can be branded
Room gifts – customise with logo or name of company eg. Mini Irish Bodhran or a mini Hurley
Special Artistic commissions:
We ask an Irish artist or musician to create a work of art or compose a piece of music for the client company
Logos – in Hay bales
Company name on a sheep!
Sponsor a greyhound race
Cookery - Include the company logo or name on the cakes!
Sports Material can be customised ( Golf balls with company logo / T-shirts company name)
Irish Coffee glasses with the company name engraved.
Treasure Hunts – all material like roadbooks, pens, T-shirts etc. Can be customised
And of course if the budget allows – we know the people to talk to in the authorities to get special permissions to
light up buildings with the company colours or project company branding onto city locations in Dublin or the
countryside – with special permission of course!
