Our Signature Touch Aromatherapy Program incorporates specic essential oils and other natural herbs to engage Residents in distinctive aromatherapy activities, creating the opportunity for further connection. is program promotes a peaceful environment through sensory stimulation that matches each Resident’s needs and tolerances. Essential Oils are aromatic liquids distilled from owers, trees, roots, bushes, and the seeds of plants, and are rich in antioxidants, nutrients and compounds benecial to sustaining health and vitality.

Lavender: Lavender is thought to be calming and able to balance strong emotions. It has also been used to help with depression, anger and irritability, and may help in some cases of insomnia. Our Residents tend to enjoy hand massages with lavender in the evenings to promote relaxation before bed.

Aromatherapy

Peppermint: Peppermint is an energizer and can be used to stimulate the mind and calm nerves at the same time. Fresh, nostalgic, and instantly recognizable, the scent is known to invigorate the mind and senses, while inspiring a sense of peace. We diuse peppermint in the mornings to energize and stimulate the senses. Monday, April 20, 2020 at 3:00 P.M.

HELLO ALL! With the COVID-19 situation I hope that you are all staying safe and following precautions. We are continuing to follow the CDC / State of Texas guidelines in our community. Visitation remains restricted to essential personnel. We can only imagine how difficult this time is for you but it’s our commitment to try to protect your loved ones at this time. I want to share again that I am holding a daily conference call at 3pm CST to keep everyone updated as to status of the community and any changes that may take place from day to day. Everyone is welcome to dial in and ask any community general questions. The phone number is 605-313-5815 and the access code is 298007#.

We are again without a Director of Resident Care. Sometimes things just don’t work out for all the best efforts. As usual in the interim I will be the acting DRC. Please call myself or Krystal, the Resident and Family Ambassador, if there is anything that you need or that we can assist with.

We are also without a Director of Resident Engagement at the present time. Krystal has an extensive background in Activities and is stepping up to help in the interim. All of the Activity Team are on board and eager to help with maintain and improving the Activities Programming so be on the lookout for new events and engagements.

Our Family Council occurs every 3rd Tuesday of each month here at the community. It’s a wonderful time to connect, share and laugh with other family members and caregivers. The group is hosted by our Executive Director, Wendy Martin, RN, CALM, CDP, CADDCT and Krystal Rhoades, Resident and Family Ambassador. We will let you know the CONNECTIONS Support Group schedule as soon as we get it sorted. Remember we are here to support not just your loved ones as our Residents but their loved ones, YOU, as well.

Wishing you Happy Days Wendy Jo Martin, RN, CALM, CDP, CADDCTExecutive Director

Daisy – Caught in the moment of time, it’s all about sensation. e person may have sensory needs and / or sensory tolerances. When experiencing low sensory needs the person may display behaviors such as humming, rubbing of hands, waving, wiping furniture and / or picking lint from clothes of self or others. When the person is experiencing high sensory needs some may display behaviors such as clenching of their teeth. is is often mistaken for aggression. e person may also be observed pushing chairs, moving things around and stomping feet, which often times expresses an unmet need, like toileting, hunger or thirst. Care Team should determine the unmet need.

Healthy Habits: Positive Affirmations“What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” – Buddha

How do affirmations work? A consistent affirmation practice of even a minute or two per day can make you feel stronger, more confident, happier, better balanced - all while reducing anxiety and fearfulness. Start a new healthy habit by incorporating the below affirmations into your daily

routine. Repeat the affirmation out load for at least one minute. While doing so, align your thinking with its message. Focus on summoning that energy into your life. See it and believe it!

“All I need is within me now.”“I am learning to trust the journey.”

“If I am committed, there is always a way.”“Today is a gift and I am blessed to be here.”

“I celebrate each goal I accomplish with joy and gratitude.”“I am able to conquer all the challenges I am confronted with.”

“I stay focused on my vision and pursue my daily work with passion.”“My mind is free of resistance and open to exciting new possibilities.”

“I can never fail, for everything that happens contributes to me being better.”“The smallest action can make a difference. I can change the world just by being here.”
