St. Joseph Rally – A Weekend of History, Mother Nature, and Fun

August 12 – 15, Pony Express RV Park, Marysville, Missouri

It started out unsuspecting enough…a hot day, but a nice, air-conditioned club room for our welcome Mexican Fiesta on Thursday evening. Co-hostess Barbara Schneider cooked a taco casserole (yes, I’m not kidding) and provided margaritas (real and fake). Earlier in the day, early arrivers caravanned to Tobiason Stained Glass Studio in St. Joseph to learn glass cutting and came away with their very own stained glass or faceted glass creation.

And Friday’s tour of St. Joseph which included the historic Patee House and Pony Express Museum, lunch at the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion and performance of “Miss Lizzie,” proved to be a great opportunity to learn about the starting-off point for the Great Gold Rush.

Friday night was potluck night outdoors with Marsha Thompson frying the fish which was provided by Shirley Eischeid. And then came the storm – winds 70 mph with food, plates, awnings, and tree limbs going everywhere! Of course, being RVW women, we knew our priorities. We gathered up the food and quickly carted it to safety, to be salvaged for lunch on Saturday.

Saturday events began with a water color demonstration and class, conducted by Anne Campbell, where participants painted their own work of art; continued with the fish pot luck lunch; evolved into a bingo game in the afternoon and a pizza dinner party; and finished with a live band performance provided by the campground.

On Sunday, a catered brunch was cooked by Marsha, which consisted of various delicious casseroles. Yum, yum!

It was a great rally (in spite of the weather) and we learned a lot about this historic town in Northwest Missouri.

Save these Dates for 2011 We have some great events scheduled for 2011, so be sure to write them in your calendar now.

April 29 – May 1 Maintenance Rally at Basswood Resort, Platte City, Missouri Our annual Maintenance Rally will be at a new place in 2010. A-Z Mobile RV will still be there to work on rigs and answer our technical questions. The campground offers level sites in a group area with club house and lots of amenities. An on-site country and hardware store will meet our shopping and mechanical needs.

May 6 – 8 Springlake RV Resort, Halstead, Kansas Join us for a weekend of fun and relaxation at Kansas’ largest RV park and resort. Nearby Hutchinson offers the Cosmosphere and Space Center and the Kansas Underground Salt Museum.

June 1- 5 Scott Joplin Festival, Sedalia, Missouri For 30 years, Sedalia has been host to the annual Scott Joplin Festival honoring America’s premier ragtime performer and

song writer (remember The Entertainer,Maple Leaf Rag?). During the festival, over 50 entertainers converge at the only pure Ragtime Festival in the world. You’ll be able to listen to piano players and other instrumentalists from all over the globe commemorating the original music America can call its own. You won’t want to miss this chance to join in the jaunty rhythms and whimiscal mood of RAGTIME.

July/August (TBD) Branson, Missouri We’re hoping to have a joint rally with the Texas Ramblin’ Rose Chapter for this always-fun-time rally at Branson. Stay tuned.

September 15 – 18 Springfield, Illinois A trip to Abraham Lincoln’s home town is in store for this fall rally. We’ll take in the Lincoln Presidental Library and Museum and explore other famous sites in this historical city.

October 15 – 18 RVW National Convention, Goshen, Indiana Plan now to join up with your fellow RVW members in the heart of RV country.

Gratitudes and Opportunities RVW has so many wonderful members who have stepped up in the past to host a rally or to lead the organization. Now it’s your turn. We will be voting for officers at the October rally. Please consider submitting your name as a candidate. Call Marj Ward or step up at the meeting. We need all sorts of talent to keep our chapter active and alive.

Mid-America Rally in Osage Beach, Missouri Forty-eight RVW members converged on a quiet little village in Osage Beach, Missouri, for their May rally. After their initial shock, village shopkeepers opened their arms and welcomed the shopaholics into their midst. After an exhaustive day of shopping at the mall, rally-goers enjoyed a catered dinner with all the trimmings and afterwards a delightful variety show, featuring a Sarah Palin impersonator.

Weekend events included a championship shuffleboard tournament, a Pizza Party, and a seminar on “Holding Tank Health 101,” presented by Marty Hall of All Pro Water-Flo Company. And of course the ever-popular card games at the club house.

Thanks to hostesses Arlene Thiel, Ellie Key, Nancy Ames, and Dot Meeks for this fun-filled rally!
