MD’s MessageDear readers The new edition of Panorama is in your hands and awaits your confirmation of high standards it has consistently maintained. This newsletter will give you a brief insight into the developments that took place since publication of our last issue. To begin with the brazen act of terrorism unleashed at Manzalai Gas plant, Gurguri, District Karak, KPK which was successfully stymied by its employees with the active collaboration of local populace. That reminded me of the fact how brave people of this country are who have refused to bow their heads before a handful of perverts that oppose development and want to keep her backward.Key leaders sitting on higher echelons need to share amongst themselves same vision, flare and direction that are essential for prominent achievements. It is for this reason that MOL Pakistan arranged for “The 7 Habits for Highly Effective People Signature Program” the three days workshop was attended by a batch of 28 senior professionals and organized from 27th -29th Feb, 2012 in Islamabad. Also you would find details of PPEPCA Provincial Workshop on Community Development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The workshop had been in the pipeline for quite some time but could not be held due to law & order issues. The importance MOL Pakistan attaches to its Production assets is unequivocal in entire industry. Condition monitoring & inspection serves as a backbone to ensure maximum effectiveness and availability of the given assets.Find the details inside.

Editorial TeamWhen words are scarce they are seldom spent in vain. Through this small space afforded to us, we want to pay our highest accolades to the brave employees of Gurguri Gas plant that thwarted the terrorist bid and went where death lurked. They showed resilience and commitment in the face of adversity and proved to the world how ordinary Pakistanis loath terrorism and how committed they are to pursue a prosperous and secure path for themselves and their families. As for this edition we have played our part with all sincerity and tried to make the issue both eye-catching and informative. Should you want some new features, send us an e-mail and we will do the rest.

A Tribute to CourageousMen of MOLDark night encompassing bright & shinning stars spread all along the visibility of human sight. Cool & soothing breeze blowing at a peaceful pace. Hence the night was moving on with tranquility. Eventually a shockwave of bullet bow was heard near 7:40 PM on 11th February 2012 at Manzalai Gas plant, Gurguri, District Karak KPK. Some saboteurs had attacked the field area viciously & brutally. Along with firing of bullets a rocket was also launched near the storage tanks; resulted in the damage of one of the condensate storage tank & consequential eruption of fire. The employees of MOL Pakistan deputed at the site accompanied with the local community were able to control the situation including fire within few minutes. The attack has resulted in the stoppage of 43MMSCFD of Gas supply to SNGPL. Keeping the landmark of high performance even in the worst circumstances; the employees of MOL Pakistan have resumed the supply to SNGPL in order to keep the system alive. International Talent Program (ITP) – Training on Project Management

Petro Skills Technical Competency Development Project – 2011-12 MOL Pakistan is conducting the Petro Skills Technical Competency Development exercise in very close coordination with MOL Group Head Office. The program is primarily focused on technical as well as professional competency development of MOL Pakistan staff. The project is being executed with an extremely structured approach in order to define MOL Pakistan technical competencies and in next step identifying development needs of technical staff. By developing the technical competencies of MOL Pakistan employees, based on the competency assessment & measurement, the project would play a very distinctive role in enhancing the overall organizational capabilities. In the first phase of the project, most experienced technical experts from MOL Group prepared the competency maps according to the international standards in close consultation with the professional developers from PetroSkills. In this regard MOL Pakistan conducted a half day long technical competency evaluation exercise on January 18, 2012.During the session participants were informed about the competency systems

in detail and were asked to do their evaluations (self assessment) against the developed competency maps through specially designed software “CAT” by PetroSkills. This activity was conducted

with support and guidance of Professional Consultant from Petroskills, namely Mr. Zaahid Bateson who came from Bahrain.

The International Talent Program launched in MOL Pakistan back in 2011 is continuing. The aim of program is to find & polish young talents who will be able to meet the ever increasing global challenges faced by the MOL Group and it is a step towards involving employees from MOL Pakistan in group activities. In this context, third training module was conducted for six participants from MOL Pakistan on 24th Feb, 2012 at Islamabad Office of MOL Pakistan under the facilitation of Mr. Kamran Rizvi, a renowned trainer. MOL Pakistan has always given special emphasis to the condition monitoring and inspection of production assets, the scale of which only increased after commissioning of the Central Processing Facility. In addition to the strategic importance of TAL production for the country, its “Inspection and Condition Monitoring” is important to ensure maximum reliability and availability of the given assets. Since its inception, this section is involved in a variety of activities for ensuring the achievement of maximum objectives while keeping the risk at ALARP (as low as reasonably practicable) levels.Effective condition monitoring, by monitoring certain key parameters, is vitally important to identify the condition of the said assets and to ensure their timely and preventive maintenance while targeting efficiency, reliability and cost effectiveness. Each of the assets, i.e. piping/ pipelines, rotating & reciprocating equipment and stationary equipment, is periodically inspected and monitored through various CM techniques such as thickness measurement surveys, vibration monitoring, oil analysis, thermal imaging, alignment checks, corrosion monitoring by coupons and electrical resistance probes and erosion monitoring with erosion probes. Based on the successful application of the methodologies and tools MOL Pakistan has so far been able to achieve excellent

results in reducing plant downtime (remained less than 0.04% in 2011) and thus increasing plant service factors. As presented earlier plant downtime remained less than 0.04%/year by achieving the plant service factors of 99.9944%, 99.9701% and 99.922% for the CPF, MGP and Makori-EPF respectively for the year-2011. Based upon these achievements additional steps are planned to further improve performance such as development of an integrated condition based maintenance program and introduction of the risk based inspection.
