once more we welcome our International Classical Guitar Competition “Andrés Segovia” that this year reaches its Thirty Third Edition. It will be held from the 23rd to the 27th of January.We have been working many years making efforts to restore the prestige that our Contest deserves, and I think we have reached it thanks to the help of many people and Institutions.This is reflected in the amount of participants that are interested in our Contest in the latest editions and the impeccable development of the Contest.Allow me to stand out the figure of the President of the Jury, Mr. Diego Martínez, who has brought with no doubt his experience when organising and running cultural events of this kind and has promoted the development of the Contest.My special gratitude to the contestants that come from different countries of the world, with different traditions and cultures but that are joined by the love to music and the guitar. We will be always be thankful to them, because without them the Contest would notbe possible.That just leaves me to invite you to enjoy the music through the guitar, honouring this year the Italian composer, Mario Castelnovo-Tedesco, for the 50th Anniversary of his death.Without further ado I would like to thank Granada´s University Orchestra its commitment with our Contest, to Juventudes Musicales of Almuñecar and of course the sponsorship of the Department ofCulture like to the Provincial Council of Granada.

Dear friends,

For the members of the Jury of the International ClassicalGuitar Competition “Andrés Segovia” of La Herradura, it is agreat satisfaction to contribute to make this Contest areference among the International scene of culture and music.

La Herradura´s Contest is one of the most importantappointments for the guitar players, that in spite of their youth,have already a consolidated musical career and want toachieve this unique award.

Its the Thirty Third edition of this extraordinary Competition, asfrom its first years, it has been ensured that the quality of themusic, the skill in the interpretation and the artistic expressionof the awarded guitarists, are the criteria’s followed by the Juryof this contest.For this edition the Jury is formed by important guitarists,musicologists and musicians that make part of a group ofprofessionals from a great level which I am honoured to leadand that is formed by Joaquín Clerch, Franz Haslaz, DavidMartínez, Antonio Sánchez, Francisco Giménez andVictoriano Pérez.

I would like to thank in a special way, the musical collaborationthat Granada’s University Orchestra provides us. Under thedirection of the Master Gabriel Delgado who will participate inthe Competitions final and in the following concert which willtake place on Sunday the 28th of January in the AuditoriumManuel de Falla (Granada) with the presence of the winner ofthe Contest.

TributeLa Herradura´s City Council from Almuñecar´s Town Hall (Granada) and the Spanish Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Histroical Memory from the Provincial Council of Granada, convened the “XXXIII International Classical Guitar Competition Andrés Segovia in La Herradura from the 23rd till the 27th of January 2018”

The Guitar week is focused to all kind of audiences and aims the difussion and study of the guitar; as well as honouring the memory of the Excellency Mr. Andrés Segovia Torres (Linares, Jaén 21/02/1893-Madrid 03/06/1987) adopted son of Almuñecar and La Herradura.

Moreover in this edition we honour the Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco on his 50th death anniversary.

First Award “Andrés Segovia” gifted with 10.000 Eu-ros, a special model concert guitar built with the best woods, materials and varnish, with a soundboard made of Canadian cedar, body made of Madagascar palissander and shellac varnish. Built combining themost modern acoustic techniques with Granada ´s centuries-old tradition. He was born in Baku on 19th of May, 1992. In March 1997 he moved to Astrakhan (city in Russia). From 2002 to 2007 he studied at the musical school Nº4 in Astrakhan, his teacher was Bogachkov Vyacheslav Fedorovich. In 2002 he moved to Moscow.From 2007 till 2011 he studied at the College at the MSIM (Moscow State Institute of Music) by A.G. Schnittke in the class of Professor Kuznetsov Vadim Alexandrovich. From 2011 till now he studies at the GMPI (Government Musical Pedagogical Institute) by M.M. Ippolitov-Ivanov in the class of Professor V.A. Kuznetsov.

Giulia Ballaré is considered one of the most promising solo of her generation.

She has won more than twenty-five prizes in International competitions: among them, first prize: Ciudad de Coria (Spain, 2017), Omis Guitar Fest (Croatia, 2017), Forum Gitarre Wien (Austria, 2016), Villa de Aranda (Spain, 2015), Comarca del Contado (Spain, 2014), Mottola (Italy, 2013)Third prize: M. Pittaluga International Competition (Alessandria, 2017), A. Frauchi Internatioal Competition (Moscow, 2017), J. Tomas-Petrer (Spain, 2017), Sevilla (Spain, 2017), Emilio Pujol concorso Internazionale (Italy, 2017)

In 2013 she released her first album with the label dotGuitar titled “Lirically Spain”, since 2017 she has been a Knobloch Artist.

He has been invited to perform in prestigious venues, such as the National Forum of Music in Wroclaw, Concert Hall of Gnessis in Moscow, Gosser Ehrbar Saal in Wien, the Aula Magna of University “La Sapienza” in Rome, the Hall of Mirrors in Bratislava, Kurfurstliches Schloss of Koblenz and many others. She had performed as soloist with Alessandria’s Orchestra (Italy) and Musica Viva’s Orchestra of Moscow (Russia).Her recitals have been acclaimed from audiences and press:

Giulia Ballaré was born in 1987 in Novara, Italy. She graduated with maximum from the conservatory in Novara with M° Guido Fichtner. At present she is attending Master’s Degree course with M° Paolo Pegoraro at Kunst Universitaet Graz.

Riccardo Calogiuri born in 1990, at the age of five started studying guitar with M° Gabriella Lubello, under her guide, in 2008, he graduated at conservatorio “N. Piccinni” in Bari with a firstclass honours degree and special mention. In 2012 he finished his postgraduate study in Bari with full marks and in 2015 he attended the course of Formazione Continua in Lugano, Switzerland, with M° Lorenzo Micheli. Great world-wide famous artists have said about him:

He attended several master classes with M° Oscar Ghiglia (the complete course at the prestigious Accademia Chigiana in Siena, from 2005 to 2008, where he was still admitted at the final concerts ), M° Alirio Diaz, M° Alberto Ponce, M° Eliot Fisk, M° Stefano Grondona, M° Bosko Radojkovic, M° Luis Quintero, M° Aniello Desiderio, M° Nando Di Modugno, M° Maurizio Colonna, in all of this masters he had merit diploms.

He has an intensive concertistic career in Italy and all over the world (in november 2006 he played at the international guitar festival of Great Britain, in October 2010 at the international guitar festival Andrès Segovia in Madrid and in May 2012 in Malibù-USA). He performed many concerts for guitar and orchestra; since he was 14 years old, in February 2005, he performed at Paisiello theater in Lecce the “Fantasia para un gentilhombre” by J.Rodrigo with

great appraisals by audience and press. In October 2010, he received The Golden Guitar Award at the International Guitar Convention in Alessandria for the best up-and-coming guitarist.He won 20 first prizes in national competitions and 8 first prizes in prestigious international competitions, including 1st prize at “Maria Quintieri” International Competition in 2015, 1st prize at “Alirio Diaz” International Competition (Carora -Venezuela) in 2009, 1st prize at International Competition of Gargnano in 2009 and 1st prize at International Competition of Fiuggi in 2009. Deion born in 1992 in South Korea.He starts studying classic guitar at the age of 13. During his education he was teached by different corean Masters. His professional debut was in 2007 in Vladivostok, Russia.In 2010 he moved to Spain to extend his musical education. He now studies in the Royal Music Conservatory in Madrid with the Masters Gabriel Estarellas, Gerardo Arriaga and Miguel Trápaga. He has private lessons with Joaquín Clerch in Dusseldorf, Germany. He has also joined Master Classes with the Masters:Leo Brouwer, Eduardo Fernández, Ricardo Gallén, Carlo Marchione, David Martinez, Pablo Márquez, Judicael Perroy, Álvaro Pierri, David Russell and Marco Tamayo.In 2016 he released his record ´ Latin Guitar Music ´ in ´BrilliantClassics´. Born in Santiago, Cuba. He starts his guitar studies when he was 10 years old in the Province of Las Tunas, Cuba. When he was 13 years old he wins the regional guitar contest for Young players.

In 2008 he starts the Arts University in La Habana. At the same time he studies during 4 years with the Master Joaquín Clerch.

When he finishes his studies in 2012, he wins the National Guitar Contest “Isaac Nicola”, making a tour around the country with Cuba´s National Symphonic Orchestra.

He has made improving musical courses with the prestigious guitarists Marco Tamayo, Ernesto Tamayo, Carles Trepat, Zoran Dukic and Ricardo Gallén.After winning the contest he receives a grant to study in Spain with the Master David Martínez and afterwards under the guidance of Gloria Medina, in the Royal Music Conservatory “Victoria Eugenia” from Granada.He teaches Master Classes in the Music Festival Des Allymes in Lyon.He has also performed as solo player in the Theatre Isabel La Católica in the Manuel de Falla´s Auditorium in Granada and in the Palace of Carlos V.

He has recently won some prizes as:- First Prize in the III and IV edition of the Provincial Contest of Musical Interpretation of Granada´s Conservatories- Third Prize in the solo contest 2015 from the RCSM “Victoria Eugenia” in Granada.- Third Prize in the XVI International Guitar Contest “Comarca del Condado”.- Second Prize in XIII International Guitar Contest of Barcelona “Miquel Llobet”.

He is part of the Pyrophorus Guitar Duo with the guitarist Alí Arango.

Gian Marco Ciampa was born in Rome in 1990. After studying with high-calibre teacherssuch as Bruno Battisti d’Amario, Fabrizio Verile, Fernando Lepri and Celestino Dionisi,he graduated with top marks, distinction and Special Mention with M° Arturo Tallini from “Santa Cecilia” Conservatoire in Rome.

Since he was a child he has taken part in and won several music competitions both inItaly and abroad: “Tokyo International Guitar Competition”[Japan],”Michele Pittaluga International Guitar Competition”,“Coria Guitar Competition” [Spain], “Budapest International Guitar Competition” [Hungary],”Omis International Guitar Competition”[Croazia], International Competition “Alirio Diaz”, International Competition “Premio Accademia” International Competition “Premio Accademia”, International Competition “Ferdinando Carulli”, International Competition “Giulio Rospigliosi”.

In 2016 his Australian Tour has been more than 10 events including concerts and masterclasses that saw the young Roman guitarist performing and giving Masterclass in prestigious avenues like the Glebe Sydney Festival, the Melbourne Conservatorium, Knox Hall of Gosford and Brisbane International Guitar Festival.

In May 2015 he left for China with #CiampaBeijingTour that sees him perform with great success in concert and hold Masterclass at the “Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing,” the prestigious “Academy of

Opera” of Peking University and the beautiful Auditorium of ‘Italian Cultural Institute of the Italian Embassy.

During the summer of 2014 he won a scholarship to attend the prestigious “New York Mannes College” and is engaged in a series of concerts in the USA that led him to performeven for the famous NEW YORK CLASSICAL GUITAR SOCIETY at the Manhattan Theatre in New York.

In the same year he won the third prize in the prestigious “International Competition Michele Pittaluga” and Scientific Committee of the same competition awarded him the prestigious “Golden Guitar” as best young talent.

Since he was very young Gian Marco has played concerts at important venues and festivals all over the world: at the Manhattan Theatre of New York for the “New York City Classical Guitar Society”, at Beijing Auditorium (China), East Hall of Sydney (Australia) “Auditorium Agnelli in Tokyo” (Japan), the Omis International Guitar Festival (Croatia), at the “Sala Sinopoli” of the Auditorium Parco della Musica.

Several important Italian newspapers and magazines (La Repubblica, La Nazione, Il Tempo, Il Corriere Della Sera, Dotguitar, Le Cool etc.) have featured articles and interviews about Gian Marco and his talent.

Born in Palermo on the 5th of June 1993.

He starts his classic guitar studies with the Mº Norrito and he degrees with first class honours. Under the guidance of Mº Pirrello he reaches the music school.Important for his improvement has been the Masterclass with Mº Marcotulli.He was first twice in the National concert “Benedetto Albanese”.He is a solo player and also plays in the instrumental quartet “Suite Siciliana” of Miriam Palma.

He finished his studies with Mº David Martínez in the Royal Music Conservatory of Granada and Málaga. He took masterclasses with classic guitar professors as: Leo Brouwer, Pepe Romero, Sergio Assad, Carmelo Martínez, Joaquín Clerch or Carlo Marchioni.

He played solo concerts, chambre music or symphony orchestra in several places in Siria as the Opera House in Damasco, the Italian Theatre or the National library.

In Spain in the Palace of Carlos V, inauguration concert of the International Music and Dance Festival in Granada 2016 together with the Orchestra Ciudad de Granada; with tenor Juan Diego Florez in the House museum Manuel de Falla, Granada; at the Palacio de Congresos, Granada; at the Musical Documentation Center of Andalucía, Granada; in Manuel de Falla´s Auditorium in Málaga and Sala Orive in Córdoba.He is guitar teacher at the local school in Campillos, Málaga.

Born in General Roca, Argentina, starts his guitar studies in IUPA under the guidance of Mº Miguel Angel Portal and Damian Sbaffo. In 2012 he graduates in IUNA, after 4 year studies with Javier Bravo, receiving his Bachelor of Arts with cum laude. In 2015 he finishes his Master in Interpretation in the Mozarteum University of Salzburg with María Isabel Siewers, Marco Tamayo and Laura Young. Since then he studies in the Musik-Akademie Basel with the Mº Pablo Márquez, reaching the title of Arts Master in 2017 and now continues in a Pedagogic Master. Academic Studies:

Emilio Perez started his musical studies with Wanda Mikatz´s “Method Divertimenti” at the age of four. Three years later he attended at the Cycle Preparatory of Music Department of Human and Arts Faculty (FFHA) from Universidad Nacional de San Juan (UNSJ).His guitar studies begin at the pre-university cycle, Musical Performer grade, under the guidance of Professor Alejandro Davila. He is currently attending the last year of the university under the guidance of Mº Omar Atreo Buschiazzo.

Artistic experience:

His rapid progress enabled him to participate in numerous concerts, at local schools as well as in the auditorium Juan Victoria, the most importan classical music theatre of the province.In 2001 he performed at the “Guitarras del Mundo” festival with guitar orchestra “Zona Pre”, directed by Professor Graciela Lopez Cazenave.After that, he gave concerts in Mendoza, Buenos Aires and Neuquén. He was invited to the V and VI International Guitar Festival of Junín de los Andes 2003 and 2004. During those two years he consecutively obtained the second prize in the National Competition Vocal and Instrumental “Construyendo la Paz y la Unidad”, young performers category, organized by the Musica Viva Arts Center.

EMILIO PÉREZ

Joaquim Santos Simões was born on April 24th , 1995, in Coimbra, Portugal. He started to play the guitar at age of eleven under the tutelage of Professor Ricardo Abreu in “Academia de Música de Espinho” , Portugal. He began his composition studies with 15 years old in the same institution with Professor Nuno Peixoto de Pinho .

In 2013 he finished the 12Th year at High-School in the Sciences and Technologies area. After that he was admitted in the “Universidade Nova de Lisboa” in the Economics course with 18 in 20 points.

He continued his studies at the Robert Schumann Hochschule fur Musik Duesseldorf with Professor Joaquín Clerch where he is currently studying Bachelor, receiving two Scholarships , “DAAD-Stipendien fur auslandische Studierende” and “ Deustchlandstipendium” . During his career he had the oportunity to play in some of the most important Concert halls in Europe like “”Casa da Música”” (Porto) ,””Tonhalle Duesseldorf ”” and “”Auditório Manuel de Falla”” (Madrid ) . Additionally Joaquim Santos Simões has participated in masterclasses held by great professors like Ricardo Gallen , Judicael Perroy ,Marco Tamayo ,Hubert Kaeppel , Eduardo Fernandez , Fabio Zanon , Franz Halasz , Rafael Aguirre, Margarita Escarpa , Carlo Marchione, Aniello Desiderio and many others. He also won a great deal of guitar competitions including 10 first prizes in several International guitar competitions like : Mencion David Russell in the “”Premios Honorificos David Russell”” (Vigo , Spain ) , 1st prize at the Guimarães International guitar Competition 2015 . He was also finalist at the Gredos San Diego International guitar Competition 2015 and at the “”International Essen Volkwang Guitar competition “ 2016”. Aditionally he also won several prizes in International Music Composition Competitions , like : 1st Prize at the “Prémio de Composição século XXI Viana do Castelo “ in 2012.

Biografía: Marko was born into a family of musicians 1991 in Kyiv, Ukraine. At the age of 4 he started studying guitar under the direction of VolodymirHomenyuk.He graduated the National University of Arts in Kharkov in 2011 with a Master degree under VolodymirDotsenko.Marko is currently pursuing a doctorate degree at the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music in Kiev under TimurIvannikov, having finished the Concert Performer’s program under Yuri Alexik. Along with his official education, Marko has been continuously working with Natalia Marunich and Elena Galuzevskaya.Marko has won more than 80 awards worldwide in the international classical guitar competitions in the professional category. Among them, 34 first places in the competitions in United States, Mexico, Australia, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia, Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Liechtenstein, Poland, Serbia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, and Ukraine.In 2014, Marko has performed his Carnegie Hall debut concert. GRANADA´S UNIVERSITY ORCHESTRA (OUGR)

Granada´s University Orchestra was founded in 2007, offering morethan one hundred and fifty concerts. The Orchestra has performedin Granada and its province, and all around Spain: Madrid, Seville,Valencia, Alicante, Santiago de Compostela, Valladolid, Zaragoza,Jaen, Ceuta, Melilla, etc. On International level they have played inMorocco and in China were they have performed an extensive tourof 10 concerts which were part of a project called “Enarmonía”.Apart from their seasonal concerts, they have participated incollaboration with the International Festival of Music and Dance ofGranada-FEX, with prestigious companies as the Fura del Baus andGranada Tanz. Their concert programs introduce traditional orchestral repertoire and other daring projects result of their commitment with the philosophy of Granada´s University of combining tradition andmodernity.

Their repertoire covers 140 works including 21 absolute premiers,recoveries of Stage Tonadilla and Scholarum Carmina. Besidespresenting their outstanding members as solo singers, they haveintroduced other artists as Dennis Parker, Mª Esther Guzmán oProemium Metals as well as guest conductors as GernotSuessmuth, Ignacio García Vidal, Colin Metters or José de Eusebio.From 2013 they are the Resident Orchestra of the InternationalClassical Guitar Competition “Andrés Segovia” in La Herradura. In their work of cultural diffusion they have a large collection ofrecordings for the cultural portal of Andalucía’s universities(CaCoCu), as well as two commercial recordings, with La Herradura´s Concert of Morales-Caso (verse) and with Proemium Metals,including premiers from Miserachs, García Carril y GonzálezGranero (Ambar).

Within its intensive training aspect, the Orchestra is remarkableamong the Spanish scene for upholding an ambitious programme of study grants and supporting in an active way the artistic promotionof their members.

They have organized many courses and master classes highlightingthe partnerships with the “Manuel De Falla” International Courses in Granada, the Mediterranean Centre, the Escola de Altos EstudiosMusicais of Galicia, the European Union Chamber Orchestra andmaster classes with Lluis Claret, Giuseppe Ettore, Yuval Gotlibovich, James Dahlgren o Kevork Mardirossian.

Granada´s University Orchestra has managed to balance since itsfoundation, a quality training work combined with the performances, the cultural diffusion and the institutional representation. Taking the music to every corner of the university community and becoming a reference in the musical performance in this area.

Qualified in the Superior Conservatories of Córdoba and Granada,he graduates in Master Degree and Doctorate in the LouisianaState University (USA) in the specializations of violoncello andorchestra conduction.He has been finalist in the contests of Young National Orchestraconductor Spain 2000 and Ciudad de Granada Orchestra 2005. Hedirected among others, the Louisiana State University SymphonyOrchestra (USA), the Philharmonic Orchestra of the State Theatreof Cottbus (Germany), the Symphony Orchestra of Murcia, theOrchestra Ciudad de Granada and Extremadura´s Orchestra(Spain).

Currently he is artistic and musical director of the Young SymphonyOrchestra of Granada (JOSG) as well as Granada´s UniversityOrchestra (OUGR), with which he has developed a notableeducational and informative work; Including concerts in Spain, Italy,France, Morocco and China, several recordings and absolutepremiers.

During the past season he directed a symphonic and choralmonographic dedicated to W.A. Mozart in the National Auditorium ofMadrid. The absolute premier of the Suite “El Castillo Interior” ofJosé Nieto, a new production of “El Amor Brujo” by Manuel de Falla,a “Carmina Burana” with La Fura dels Baus in the InternationalFestival of Music and Dance “Ciudad de Úbeda” and variousextraordinary concerts with Extremadura´s Orchestra.Now he combines his activity as Orchestra Director with VioloncelloProfessor in the Royal Music Conservatory “Victoria Eugenia” inGranada.
